"There have been whispers, whispers of a new threat out on the border of the galaxy. An enemy once thought defeated, rises again. It seems the collective decision of the Republic, is to ignore this threat. But as the darkness grows stronger, a question must be asked, the question of what will our decision be? Will we stay locked up in our temple's until the heels of the Sith are pressing against out throats? Will we seek to intervene at the last moment, when far too many lives will have been lost already?

I cannot commit to such inaction. I am a man dedicated to peace, but that peace must be protected or it will be lost by those who seek to destroy it. If we are to accept the role as peacekeepers in the galaxy, then we must also accept the responsibility that comes with it. The responsibility to protect every living creature in the galaxy from tyranny and destruction.

This is our responsibility to the galaxy.

This is the responsibility of a Jedi."

BIOGRAPHY
[fancybox4="http://i64.tinypic.com/s10u0z.jpg"] Garen and Keira Ank'hu were loving, kind people. They met at the museum where they both worked on Coruscant. They had many shared interests, their love of history only being one of them. The pair married a short time after meeting, and a short time after that, Keira gave birth to a boy. But sadly, their lives were cut short by a fire which ravaged their family home, their infant son would have also perished in the flames, if it had not been for the timely intervention of a Jedi Knight. This Jedi took pity upon the child and felt it his duty to see that the infant was raised in a safe place where he would not be at risk to any further harm.

So it was that this Jedi took the child to the safest place he knew, the temple of his order. It was at the Jedi Temple on Tython, that Val was handed over to the fosterers who cared for the younglings. Growing up, Val never experienced any significant emotional trauma as a result of his parents death, he had little or no memory of the two of them, although during his early years he had admitted to having recurrent dreams that involved his parents, these quickly passed however. Val had no reservations about pursuing the life of a Jedi, after all, it was the only life he had ever been consciously aware of. Val did not excel initially under the tutelage of the Jedi instructors, he often displayed a rebellious attitude and often did the opposite of what he was told, as children are apt to do.

It wasn't until he was taken under the wing of a Bothan Jedi Master known as Tolir Qen'nari, the same Jedi who saved him from his burning home maybe years ago, that Val truly began to learn the ways of the Jedi. Tolir believed wholeheartedly in destiny and that each individual in the galaxy had their own path they must follow. He believed that he had encountered Val for a reason and although he did not know that reason, he resolved to train him as a Jedi. However, despite his belief in destiny, this did not mean that Tolir would let Val get off lightly and was not unwilling to hand out punishments. Punishments were not needed, as it turned out, upon realising the rigor of the training regime Tolir was to put him through, Val decided to drop the rebelliousness, feeling that he'd never get through it unless he decided to become more disciplined.

These times were relatively peaceful for the Jedi and this allowed Val to progress through his training without interruption. The years passed by quickly and it soon came to be that Val was ready to undergo his final trials and become a Jedi Knight. Tolir traveled with Val to the Jedi Temple on Lothal. Tolir and Val ventured inside the Jedi Temple, it was there was Val was instructed by Tolir to enter the cave entrance in side the Temple, which according to Tolir, was connected to a network of tunnels, if Val was successful he would find himself back at the entrance, where Tolir would be waiting for him to return. With only his Lightsaber and a canteen of water, Val began his journey through the tunnels. Unsurprisingly, he quickly became lost and spent what felt like a day walking endlessly in circles. It become apparent to Val that he was being stalked by something through the tunnels, it was something that he never saw and he could never move quick enough to get a look, only a shadow moving in the corner of his eye.

It was after what seemed to be several days of being lost in the tunnels that Val became tired of running from the shadowy entity. The entity was a cloud of black mist which continued towards him despite any attempt to fight back, it was impervious to his Lightsaber and was not moved by the Force. Seeing no way out and believing himself to have been abandoned, he allowed himself to be consumed by the mist. There was nothing but darkness for a few minutes before Val found himself once again at the entrance to the cave. Tolir explained to Val that he had only been gone for a few hours and that his final test had been to conquer his greatest fear, the fear of death and the unknown, he explained that this fear could corrupt even the most powerful Jedi in falling to the dark side and that in conquering this fear, he would be able to confront evil and protect those who could not protect themselves. Val took this lesson to heart and proceeded to pass the remainder of his Knight Trials without a problem, things were looking positive for the future.

But the hands of time turn unforgivably and now, in the present day, the Jedi are faced with a new task. The Sith, long believed to have been vanquished, grow in power on the Outer Rim of the Galaxy. As the Republic plays down the severity and validity of claims as to the return of the Sith, the Jedi have found that they have had to adapt their ancient ways in order to combat this new threat. More and more Jedi are moving to the front line, away from the safety of their temples, so that the Sith can be effectively fought. Val Ank'hu, is one of these Jedi who seek to bring balance to the Force by stopping the forces of the Sith before they are able spread throughout the galaxy.

In these turbulent times, only one thing can be said to be certain and that is that a war is coming. How that war will end however and who will be left standing, is a story that is yet to be told.

PERSONALITY
[fancybox2] At heart, Val is a compassionate person, but with the rumors of the Sith returning revealed to be true and the galaxy seeming to turn increasingly more hostile toward the Jedi, he has become more hardened than he once was. He also believes that his cold attitude is necessary in his fight against the Sith, with many Jedi having turned to the dark side, he knows that it is more important now than ever, that he does not allow his emotions to cloud his judgement. He tries to stay pragmatic in his outlook, but sometimes he cannot help but be somewhat optimistic, he is always hoping for the best, even if he is not planning for it. He enjoys the life of a Jedi, this could be because he has not known any other type of life, but he has always been determined and taken pleasure in being a Jedi.

It could be argued that, even since he was a child, he has exhibited signs of what could be described as a messiah complex. Often, he will go out of his way to help those who need to be helped and is willing to put himself in unnecessary danger to do so. Even as a child, he personally felt that it was his duty to protect people from danger, whether it be the Sith or some other manifestation of evil, he felt as if it was what he was born to do. Val is cautious that he does not grow to hate the Sith, knowing that hate is a dangerous path that can lead to the dark side. Instead he tries to view them as a single entity united by darkness and evil, the antithesis of what he believes the Jedi to be. This way of thinking is his attempt to resist the pull of the dark side which has consumed others, but this is not to say he is not as risk.

On the other hand, it is his desire and willingness to help which leaves him in a state of conflict, both with himself and the current ideology of the Jedi. He no longer finds himself able to stick the role of a passive peacekeeper, he maintains that the only way to effectively combat the threat that the Sith pose is through direct intervention. In Val's mind, the Sith are the greatest threat to peace in the galaxy and he treats them as such. It is because of this that he has a very negative opinion of the Galactic Senate due to their refusal to acknowledge the truth that the Sith are returning. He is also at conflict with his own role in the fight against the Sith, he does not view himself as an aggressor or a conqueror, but he wanders whether these qualities are needed to be effective and as such, he is often at odds with himself about his actions.

ABILITIES
[fancybox2] Val is a skilled duelist, he has dedicated a considerable time in training to hone his skills with a Lightsaber. He has trained extensively in order to be able to use both offensive and defensive techniques effectively. His combat technique is a mixture of both variations of Form V, Shien and Djem So. Initially, he focused only on the Shien variation but realised that it had weaknesses when it came to blade-to-blade combat, this was when he began to use both variations. In recent years he noticed that he was lacking on the defensive front, therefore Val has been working on honing his skills with the Soresu and Niman forms, so he can blend more defensive techniques into his combat style. Although, he is by no means a master of Form VI or Form III.

Because of his attention to Lightsaber combat, he is not as skilled with Force techniques. He has mastered a number of the core powers, however this is more due to years of practice than being particularly strong in the Force. He is skilled in telekinetic applications of the Force, which he feels gives him an added edge if he were needed to engage in combat with another Force user. However, he is not as talented when it comes to advanced sense or mental-related abilities. Val would consider mental-related abilities his weakness and he will use them only rarely in desperate measures and prefers to use physical force techniques to increase his reflexes, stamina and accuracy when fighting. Val is careful when using these physical-enhancing Force techniques due to the fact that they are extremely taxing and tire him out quickly, which would leave him vulnerable during combat.
