Welcome to the Ubiqtorate information dump! This post will get you caught up to speed on what the Ubiq is, what the Ubiq is not, and with a little luck, it'll also provide answers to whatever questions you may have about the group and its purpose as well.

If your concerns aren't addressed in this post, please throw me (Bee) a private message at your earliest convenience. I'm always happy to help in whatever way I possibly can.

  • What the heck is the Ubiqtorate, anyway?
The Ubiqtorate is the Empire's intelligence agency. They're sort of the Imperial CIA: they gather information which is used to help keep the Empire safe. Unlike the CIA, they operate inside Imperial space (domestically), as well as out in the galaxy at large (foreign operations), bringing in intelligence on potential threats on the Empire regardless of where they originate from.

Its important to note that the Ubiq is not a police force, secret or otherwise. Their operations are overwhelmingly non-violent in nature, and none of their agents have the authority to make arrests or use lethal force unless absolutely necessary. While authority to do so can be granted by the Director of the Ubiqtorate, the odds of that happening are incredibly low.

  • What's the difference between the old Ubiq and the new Ubiq?
Old Ubiq was, well, kind of dead in the water, for starters. Aside from that, it was focused on infiltrating other factions and straight-up killing people, stealing all their secrets, and then dismantling other factions from within. It also had a significant military force - a dozen Star Destroyers, and hundreds of thousands of shock troops! - and was basically an unstoppable machine of treachery and doom. And while that might sound fun on paper, that kind of group is extremely toxic in a story-driven environment like the one we have here on SWRP. In other words, its no fun for the people who aren't in it, which is horribly unfair.

So rather than try and take down every group that wants to oppose the Imperium, the Ubiq is going to focus simply on the gathering of intelligence. There may be the occasional assassination here and there - with consenting writers all around - but for the most part, the Ubiqtorate will be a fairly benign sub-faction. No one is going to show up at the nearest Jedi outpost or Rebel base and sneak in, plant a bunch of explosives, and run off cackling into the night.

Also, its going to be active! And you don't need to make a new character to join!

  • Is the Ubiqtorate public knowledge?
This one's easy! Nope. Unless you're currently a member, or are writing the Dark Lord of the Sith, the Empress, or the Supreme Commander, your character has no idea that the Ubiqtorate is a thing. They may know of an Imperial Intelligence agency - it'd be foolish to assume the Empire doesn't have one, after all - but that's it.

  • Sounds cool. How can I join?
OOCly, send me a private message expressing your interest in the sub-faction. I'll forward you an application and we can go from there.

ICly, we'll discuss that if and when it comes up. Basically, you don't find the Ubiq - the Ubiq finds you.

Just a reminder, though: this group is going to be small. I'm not looking to be an elitist jerk or shut people out by saying that. Rather, I don't want to see a faction (such as the Rebellion or the Hutt Cartel) get so inundated with operatives to the point where it cannot reasonably function, and given that the Ubiqtorate is ultra-secret to everyone outside the upper echelon of Sith leadership, having a ton of members would be more of a liability than a blessing.

  • Spies make me uncomfortable! Why are you doing this?
Let's be honest: espionage has a bad reputation on SWRP. I'd like to change that. We're all here to have fun, and for those of us who like skulking around listening in on other people's conversations, the Ubiq is a chance to get our spy fix without ruining the plots and stories that other players have put into place.
