Tycho Drayson was born into an aristocratic family on Taris. His mother died giving birth to him, and his father never could shake the resentment he felt towards his son. In his prime, Tycho’s father was a powerful mogul, owning huge swaths of property on Taris, a fleet of cargo freighters, and enough industrial capital to rival the droid builders of Geonosis. However, after the death of his wife, Tycho’s father spent more and more time gambling and striking business deals with members of the Black Sun. He also loathed his son for inadvertently killing his wife. Sick of being reminded of his heartbreak, Tycho’s father sent his boy off to a Tarisian preparatory school at the age of ten.

Tarisian children of a certain age and social-standing were often sent off by their parents to preparatory schools to groom them as the next generation of socialites and power-brokers. They offered strict educational courses in history, mathematics, language and composition, and most importantly, etiquette. Tycho found his time in school to be abysmally boring when he wasn’t studying history and etiquette. He was enamored by the tales of the first Tarisian pioneers who built the all-encompassing city that he lived in. Etiquette was a game to him. Once he learned the rules, he took great pleasure in becoming the most sophisticated pupil in his class. He would often lead his fellow classmates in play battles with heartfelt speeches and powerful gestures. As the years passed, he took more advanced courses in business, ethics, and philosophy; subjects that he excelled at.

At the age of 18, he graduated from the preparatory school. Upon his release, he figured that his father would finally give him a modest portion of his empire to run as he saw fit. However, his father’s gambling, and dealings with the Black Sun, had led to the downfall of the Drayson Empire. His father had liquidated almost all of his assets, and still the Black Sun representative on Taris was not satisfied. When Tycho arrived at his father’s mansion, he was apprehended by armed, Black Sun thugs.

Tycho was taken into his father’s grand office. Seated at the ornately-carved, wooden desk was his father and the Black Sun’s representative, Zita Morithaas. Zita was a shrewd Faleen woman, who had climbed up the ranks of the Black Sun until she became the power-broker that controlled all business on Taris. Tycho’s father, in doing business with her, made the fatal assumption that he could outwit her.

Tycho’s father, in a desperate attempt to hold onto the few assets he had left, offered Zita to take his only son as a slave. He explained that Tycho was just as shrewd as himself, and that he had spent the last eight years learning the skills required to become useful in business. Disgusted, Zita curtly refused the deal. She took the rest of the Drayson’s assets at gunpoint. Zita saw potential in Tycho’s gray eyes, and she offered him a position as a personal assistant.

Tycho stood in the office for a moment, looking at his father, who sat at his desk weeping, and at Zita, who stood tall, with five armed guards behind her. He knew where his greatest potential for success was, and he never spoke to his father again.

Zita ran her criminal empire from deep within the bowels of Taris. Tycho had been protected from the vice and violence that was rampant in the lower city, and now he had to face it in its rawest forms. Tycho began his career with Zita as her personal assistant. He would bring her food, drink, and everything else she demanded. It was frustrating, since Tycho’s ambitions were far beyond being a waiter. Ambition aside, standing next to Zita, Tycho managed to indirectly eavesdrop on the most powerful individuals on all of Taris. As time went on, his duties grew more important. At first, he ran a gang of slicers, stealing credits and information straight from the holonet. After that, he would be responsible for collecting extortion money from businesses in the Lower City. Eventually, Zita felt comfortable enough to let Tycho run several cantinas and gambling houses that she owned.

Antagonisms between those who were lucky enough to live in the highest echelons of Taris, and the poor masses below were always high. As crime, disease, and economic troubles grew more rampant, so did the tensions. Zita had a finger on the pulse of the dregs living in the Lower City, and she knew that violence would pour out into the streets, and she planned to use this violence as the means to expand her power.

It was at this time that Tycho began his career as a speech giver. Zita used her own funds to turn Tycho into a revolutionary that she could secretly control. He utilized the the knowledge that he obtained in prep school to forge firebrand speeches to rally the masses in the Lower City. Over time, his speeches became so popular that he had spawned a movement. Thousands upon thousands of Tarisians participated in strikes and marches, all over Taris. The more speeches that Tycho gave, the more drunk he became on the affection he received from the crowd. Tycho also began forming a network with like-minded revolutionaries who further advanced the rising revolutionary fever. Zita grew concerned that the political turmoil that her lieutenant had created had become too large for her to control. Tycho himself eventually bought into the myth of the man that the people called, "Tycho of Taris."

The watershed moment in Tycho’s career came when he led thousands of Lower City denizens in a march upon the capital, demaning the immediate resignation of the city council. Tycho gave a scathing speech that denounced the aristocratic government that had ruled Taris for too long, and against the Black Sun who destroyed any chance of fair commerce.

To avoid bloodshed, the city council agreed to step down. Emergency elections were held to elect a new city council. For the first time in Taris’ history, the council was entirely made up from citizens of the lower city. Tycho himself was elected to the position of Minister of Security. With this powerful office, Tycho had the strength of the Taris Security Forces at his beck and call. He utilized this power to make a clean sweep of all Black Sun holdings in the Lower City. The struggle between Tycho's men and his former master turned into a brief street war. In the end, the conflict lasted several days, but the Black Sun’s operation on Taris had been crippled. Zita had managed to flee.

A certain degree of stability had been achieved on Taris after the revolution. The nobles begrudgingly accepted the new government, secretly plotting to restore themselves, while the citizens of the Lower City enjoyed their newly earned power. Tycho partially withdrew from public life, spending more time drafting bills than giving speeches.

In the middle of his tenure as Minister of Security, Tycho took a trip to Manaan to exchange methodologies in criminal justice with his Selkath colleagues. While he was there, he fell in love with a gruff bounty hunter by the name of Ben Cyllest. Ben was everything that he was not: cool, collected, and more salt-of-the-earth than he could hope to be. Ben would visit him from time to time between his committee meetings and court hearings, offering Tycho desperately needed relief. Tycho reluctantly cut off the visits when he found out that Ben was in trouble with a Hutt Crime Lord, feeling that his duties to the citizens of Taris outweighed his love for Ben.

Whispers came from across the galaxy that a new galactic government was forming, one that would eclipse the ancient republic, and usher in a new era of peace and prosperity. Tycho knew that Taris would have to be a major player in this government’s formation, or his homeworld would slip into obscurity. To prevent that, Tycho resigned as Minister of Security, and called for an election to determine who would become Taris’ representatives to the rest of the galaxy. Polishing off the rhetorical devices of his youth, he won the election.

POLITICAL VIEWS

Tycho could never shake the revolutionary fervor of his early political career. He finds the slow moving legislative process of the senate to be unbearable when there are so many troubles facing The Republic. He is also wary of colleagues that are too eager to represent corporate or aristocratic interests over the average citizens of his planet. This stance has made him few friends among The Senate.

The History of Taris is not lost upon Tycho. The razing of his homeworld in antiquity at the hands of the Sith is something he swears that he will not let happen again to Taris, or any other world in the Republic. To that end, Tycho is in favor of more centralization, feeling that a Republic that is tightly bound together, will not break apart when faced with a crisis. While he respects the efforts of the Border Alliance, Tycho feels that a well funded, centralized military is the only way to defend the Republic. Since such measures are not being considered, he is happy to continue the funding of the Border Alliance by any means nessecary.

Tycho's moral philosophy is contradictory to his political philosophy of centralization. He believes that a democracy free from corruption, and the sovereignty of each constituent planet is the key to maintaining the Republic. There is no greater crime in the eyes of Tycho than political corruption. He is infamous in the senate hall for calling out his colleagues that he believes are not representing the will of their constituents. To prevent the destruction of culture in the galaxy, Tycho believes that the peripheral members of the Republic do not need to be "civilized" by the Core Worlds, only that they be given a voice, and a vote.

Polis
[fancybox4="http://vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net/starwars/images/6/63/Y-8.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20080420231853"] The Polis was a mining ship belonging to Zita Morithaas during her tenure as leader of all criminal activity on Taris. In addition to mining operations, Zita used the ship as a blockade runner, a cargo transport, and a light capital ship during space skirmishes. After Tycho purged her from Taris, he immediately seized the assets she left behind, including the Polis. He promptly refitted the vessel by removing the mining equipment, upgrading the propulsion systems, and changing the interior design to reflect his lavish tastes. Polis serves as Tycho of Taris' personal diplomatic barge, and as his home away from home.

Technical Information:
Affiliation: The Republic Senate
Ownership: Tycho Drayson
Model: Modified KS-77 Mining Vessel
Manufacturer: Corellian Engineering Corporation
Dimensions:

  • Length: 80 meters
  • Width: 30 meters
  • Height: 120 meters
Crew: 1x Pilot, 1x Navigator, 1x Engineer
Passengers: 4

Armament: 1x Forward Laser Cannon
Equipment:

  • 1x Escape Pod
  • 1x Civilian Grade Sensor Pod
  • 1x Civilian Grade Shield Generator
  • 1x Life Support Module
  • 1x Docking Port
Sublight Speed: 80 MGLT
Hyperdrive: Class 4 Hyperdrive
Maneuverability: The Polis is a lumbering vessel that is only good for getting from Point A to Point B. An experienced pilot might manage to maneuver her into a slow and wide roll, but it certainly cannot move like a stunt fighter.

Description: Tycho's ship is equipped with the basic necessities required for space travel. While he may have decorated his person quarters in a lavish style, the ship's components and externals are completely unassuming. The Forward Laser cannon is more apt to blowing apart slow, plodding asteroids than engaging in dogfights. Despite that, the industrial grade hyperdrive does make it relatively fast in hyperspace, which suits Tycho just fine, as he believes that diplomacy requires speed.
