BIOGRAPHY
When Tycho graduated high school he graduated as predicted, top of his class and with a scholarship to any school he wanted to go to. He surprised everyone by enrolling in the aerospace engineering program at Ord Tindell Academy to follow in the footsteps of his father. The young man during his college years proved to be arrogant and almost unlikeable. He had a singular focus on his academics and physical training, ignoring his peers to advance his own career at any cost. Despite this he graduated top of his class once again. The young man was offered a slot in any career field of the armed forces and surprising almost no one by this point decided to become a pilot.
Initial pilot training for now Ensign Berand was once again aced with flying colors, once again getting his own pick the young ensign decided to be an X-Wing pilot. It was there the pilot learned that his personality was his biggest weakness. Training exercises and work with peers turned into shouting matches, peers refused to support him when attacked and he refused to help them. It wasn't until his instructors recommended him for washing out that the young ensign eventually changed his attitude. Berand would eventually graduate at 25 an X-Wing pilot like his father before him with Ord Tindell's Navy, for once not top of his class but dead last.
Ensign Berand getting last pick resulted him in getting placed exactly where he wanted anyways. Where most of his class mates who got decisions opted to go towards safer postings he had gotten posted aboard a light cruiser posted to do patrols in areas with known pirate activity. There the young ensign racked up a reputation for being merciless to pirates. Unless ordered by superiors he showed no quarter, no mercy and never hesitated. The ensign eventually promoted to Lieutenant, and was assigned to a posting back on Ord Tindell with headquarters.
Lieutenant Berand's time at headquarters on Ord Tindell were spent acting as the executive officer to an admiral set to retire within a few short years. The admiral spent most of his remaining career providing much needed mentorship to the young lieutenant. Helping him to learn to work better with a team and how to properly lead a squadron. When the admiral finally retired the lieutenant was promoted once again, this time to the rank of Commander. Moving posts once again he found himself placed as the director of operations for a squadron dedicated to less legitimate operations.
Commander Berand proved to be less adept at his new posting. Secrecy, discretion were not things the commander was used to. He still managed to excel in the more direct fights which he preferred but missions that left the purview of aim X-Wing and shoot he preferred to rely on his subordinates to lead and perform. Despite this, he would end up leading operations personally, assassination, sabotage, anything that would further the aims of the Free World Alliance or more specifically, Ord Tindell. Commander Berand would plan and execute dozens of missions throughout this assignment, some of which not even Tycho knows the legitimacy of. Some of the missions would even end up going against Jedi. The commander would spend more then a decade performing in a less legitimate capacity until he turned 35 when he was promoted to the rank of captain.
As Captain Berand the now middle aged man was placed in charge of anti piracy operations for his home system. Instead of flying an X-Wing directly and fighting pirates or other threats to his homeworld the captain was now directing others to perform those actions. As the man in charge of these operations the captain watched piracy fall over eighty percent within his home. Headquarters feeling his talents were wasted on a small scale eventually loaned out to the Free Worlds Alliance as an intelligence officer. There he learned disturbing rumors regarding a seemingly mysterious organization operating in the background of the galaxy. Agents sent to recover more information disappeared or were found dead. Captain Berand brought the information to his superiors who covered it up, fearing panic.
Disillusioned by the cover up Captain Berand would put in his retirement paperwork from the Ord Tindell Navy. After one last year in the Navy the former captain would run for senate campaigning on the weakness of the Free Worlds military and criticizing their reliance on defense pacts. It wouldn't be until the resurgence of the Sith that Berand would be elected senator for Ord Tindell. Upon his election the Ord Tindell surprised him by gifting him his old and now unarmed T-70 X-Wing along with presenting him a new callsign, "Madman."
