.:.Lance fastened the sword belt around his waist and walked over towards the large viewing window. He smirked as he looked at the Ashlan plains before him - there wasn't a site that equaled the plains throughout the galaxy. It was a warm and bright day, the grass on the rolling hills glittered with brightness from the morning dew. Lance decided to gaze at the wondrous site until the apprentice arrived. He heard is name was Darien Tanis - Lance was excited to see the potential of the apprentice.:.

Darien stepped in through the door, having learned much just from watching the others in the courtyard the previous day, and moved into the center of the room. He did not address his trainer but merely remained there steadfast and ready to begin. He had heard of the Force of Others and knew that the Priest probably knew he was coming before he entered.

The events of the prior day should have humbled him some but his aura and mind still sat with the belief that he was better than the rest of them, and was sure that his training would only prove that. He took to his knees in a meditative stance as he had been told by others that meditation was a strong part of the training he had practiced calming his mind in his quarters for the past 12 hours and believed he could impress the Priest by already knowing what he was doing.

.:.Lance felt the presence of the apprentice before the apprentice had entered the room. Lance still gazed out upon the Ashlan Plains - it was truly an amazing site. The Bendu Priest knew all about Darien Tanis; Lance could feel Darien's presence in the force and the boy seemed a bit cocky. It was nothing the pair couldn't work on, and he found it quite common among new apprentices. Lance Al'Galzrek raised his arm up into the air, and his open hand slowly came into a balled fist - the lights within the chamber dimmed. It was such a bright day out that the light from the Ashlan sun could provide generous light. For now, Lance waited, still looking out upon the green plains. The first test would be a test of patience.:.

Darien sat in the meditative form, though not without fidgeting, and tried to be as patient as possible. While there he reflected on the events, the possibility that he had been responsible, in some small way, for the injury to the apprentice Marius, his pushing and prodding had caused the young man to decide to train with the sword some more, which had in turn caused him to get hurt. Why had he felt guilt for this, it was not directly his fault, he didn't tell the boy to push his own limits without the needed training.

Then the girl crept into his mind, the one who had dropped everything she was doing to help the injured apprentice, she was a sight and capable of compassion for one she never even knew, Lilly, that was what the other apprentice had called her.

It was this that caused him to realize that he wasn't truly meditating, his mind was not clear, and so long as this guilt sat over him, no matter how unfounded it was, he wouldn't be able to clear his mind. Darien would fail the test of patience that day as he stood and spoke.

"Are we just going to sit here?" He said in a tone that was both condescending and seemed to point that the Priest did not know what he was doing.

There Darien stood with a look upon his face that seemed to be a mix of anger and impatience, as if this test had wronged him in some way...

.:.Lance smirked: he knew that this apprentice would be a tough one, he would have to work on the boy's patience. Lance, still looking out the window could feel that something was troubling the apprentice. The Bendu Priest wiped off his white robes slightly and turned around, his black cloak gloriously swirling. Lance's eyes looked upon Darien's. The boy had some type of guilt within him. Lance intended to rid the boy of the guilt before the training began. Everyone went through hard times and the important thing was to move on to the future, no matter the cost. The Bendu Priest spoke in a welcoming voice.:.

"What troubles you, Darien?"

"What troubles you, Darien?" was what the Priest had said.

That was a loaded question, there would always be troubles in the life of any individual, but what was it that troubled Darien at this point. Was it the thought that he had set in motion the events that had caused someone to be hurt, he didn't truly believe that was where the problem lied. Was it the fact that he had been the only one not to immediately offer up his abilities to help the injured apprentice, or could it simply be that it bothered him that the others had so quickly forsaken themselves and their lives to help someone they did not know.

How was he to answer such a question, perhaps it was a simple question to answer, say the first thing that comes to your mind, do not attempt to manipulate the situation in a democratic way, simply open your mind and let the words flow.

"There was an injury in the courtyard yesterday," he stated bluntly "and I believe I may have been the cause."

But his words didn't stop there, because that wasn't the root of his problem that wasn't what would absolve his guilt.

"There was a girl there, she gave up moments of her life," he was astounded at himself for what he was saying "She stopped everything she was doing, and went to help another, one she didn't even know."

And then the picture started to paint itself in his head, he hadn't been watching the rest of the situation, he had been watching her, what she was doing, trying to figure her out. His diplomatic sense began to take over and he strung a story together that made sense so that he would not have to think further on her.

"I did not offer help until the last possible moment, I simply studied the situation, I tried to find a place where I could benefit from what had happened, learn about the individuals. Find a way to prove I was a valuable asset so that everyone would know."

He had been honest, he simply left a gap, the one that circled around the one student that had drawn his attention, the one he had studied. He was almost disgusted with himself for allowing his attention to be drawn as such, he had no need for others. He had always been alone at home, and hadn't expected to want it any other way.

He let his head hang to show his shame, a shame that could only be manufactured for he had been almost proud that he could affect events to cause an outcome, even if the outcome was not desirable he had said things that caused someone to do something. He would simply have to study harder and learn what it was that could make them do things that he wanted, rather than just act blindly.

.:.Lance slowly walked up to the apprentice and put a reassuring hand on the boy's shoulder. The priest spoke with a soft tone.:.

"In time, Darien, you will learn. It is important not to dwell on the past but move into the future. Conflicts will occur throughout one's life. The important thing is to learn how to deal with them. I will give you the training you need to help someone and persevere through obstacles. Such is the way in the Bendu. You will be fine, apprentice."

.:.Lance remembered the hardships of being an apprentice. They attacked and stabbed at one's self esteem... but eventually one was able to overcome the problems, as he did. It wasn't a rare problem, but a common fact of life.:.

It was time for him to concede, whether truthful or not, he realized that his trainer had some level of diplomatic experience, he knew what to say to keep things moving forward, rather than staying at the stagnant stage of guilt.

They had, not immediately, moved on to absolution. He was being told that it would all be ok in time, it was almost parental in nature, but his diplomatic sense told him that the longer he wallowed in any type of guilt, or admiration, or any other form of distraction, was the longer it would take him to begin learning his new craft.

The Force of Others interested him greatly, it would aid him in life as well as give him another way to prove his worth to the galaxy. He intended to use it to it's extent and learn to control each situation presented to him, in a manner that gave him the highest recognition possible.

He didn't see this greed as an obstacle, but a motive, it was what would keep his training strong and fulfilling. It would keep him moving forward and keep his razors edge sharper than that of his peers...
