DESCRIPTION
The TIE/OP, more commonly known as the TIE Oppressor, is a light starbomber which was manufactured by Sienar Fleet Systems for the Galactic Empire during the early years of the Galactic Civil War. Designed as a missile-armed strike craft for missions considered too hazardous for a flight of TIE Bombers, the Oppressor was intended to infiltrate alone or in small groups, using its lighter ordinance load to perform surgical strikes.

The TIE Oppressor is not large, just slightly longer than a standard TIE and 9.2 meters. The type is flown by a single pilot, and is notably equipped with a deflector shield, a rarity in Imperial fighters from this period. Armament consists of the ubiquitous twin medium laser cannons possessed by most TIE variants, plus a pair of concussion missile launchers, each with an 8-round magazine and a combined total of 16 rounds. The TIE/OP's main flaw is its engine; it uses the standard TIE engine, which has not been up-rated to compensate for the weight of all the extra equipment. As a result, the TIE's normally excellent maneuverability has been reduced to merely decent.

TIE/OP starbombers were never widely used by the Galactic Empire, having a relatively niche set of capabilities. TIE Oppressors were used in the few instances when the Empire chose not to use overwhelming force to achieve its objectives; they were notably used in the SEAD role, Suppression of Enemy Aerospace Defenses, destroying ground-based weapon systems in preparation for conventional bombers. Despite their shortcomings, these craft were feared by Rebel ground troops during the Galactic Civil War. Since the end of the war, their small initial numbers and attrition over time have conspired to make them rare in the present day.

LEGALITY
Restricted. TIE Oppressors are starbombers, and are subject to extra licensing requirements and increased scrutiny by authorities.
