DESCRIPTION
The TIE/IN starfighter, better known as the TIE Interceptor or Squint, is an improved variant of the standard TIE/LN starfighter produced by Sienar Fleet Systems. One of the most notorious craft fielded by the Galactic Empire, the Interceptor was heavily armed and fast enough to chase down almost any craft fielded by the Rebel Alliance during the Galactic Civil War.

Built in response to the appearance of the Rebellion's advanced T-65B X-Wing and RZ-1 A-Wing starfighters, the TIE/IN Interceptor was meant to swat these threats to Imperial dominance out of the sky. Incorporating a revised side panel design which gave it a distinctive profile, the Interceptor boasted better pilot visibility, 6 laser cannons including the 2 chin-mounted guns in the central pod and 4 mounted in the wingtips, and a faster top speed of 110 MGLT, the Interceptor still lacked shields and a hyperdrive, but made up for it with shear ferocity in hunting down its prey. Unlike TIE/LN pilots, who were taught simple swarm tactics, TIE Interceptor pilots were trained to be hunters, using more individualistic strategies. TIE/IN pilots were selected from the ranks of TIE/LN pilots who had survived at least 10 combat missions, and thus TIE Interceptors were typically flown by experienced veterans, increasing their deadliness.

Though not nearly as common as the TIE/LN, the TIE/IN Interceptor still made up at least 10% of the Galactic Empire's starfighter strength at its height. As a result, TIE Interceptors are still reasonably common even well over a century later. Like the TIE/LN, they can be found in service with heroes and villains alike in the modern era.
