DESCRIPTION​

The TIE/FO space superiority starfighter, better known as the First Order TIE or TIE Foe, is an update of the original TIE/LN starfighter produced for the Galactic Empire. Designed by engineers of the First Order military junta and manufactured by the Sienar-Jaemus Fleet Systems corporation, the TIE/FO is much more durable and sophisticated than its semi-disposable predecessor.

The TIE/FO is slightly smaller than the TIE/LN, just 6.69 meters in length compared to the LN's 7.24. The type embodies the First Order's philosophy of quality over quantity; rather than being treated as little more than piloted ordinance, TIE/FOs and their pilots were considered valuable assets, and thus the fighters were equipped with safety features such as rudimentary deflector shields, making them more durable in combat. TIE/FOs are also faster than any starfighter of their predecessor's day; able to reach 115 MGLT with excellent maneuverability, they would have dominated any battlefield of the Galactic Civil War, and indeed gave contemporary snubfighters of the Resistance a run for their credits.

In all other respects, the TIE/FO is very close to its ancestor. It has an almost identical layout to the TIE/LN, sharing the same central ball cockpit-and-engine pod, flanked by two horizontal heat dissipators/solar collectors. The ship lacks an integrated life support system, requiring pilots to wear full environmental suits. It also lacks a hyperdrive and has only 1 day's worth of consumables, limiting it to short-range operations. Armament is a pair of medium laser cannons.

The TIE/FO, despite its shortcomings, is still considered one of the finest snubfighters ever made, even a century later. Unfortunately, as with most First Order technology, it is not nearly as common as its old Imperial counterpart; not as many were manufactured, and most of those that saw service were destroyed during the uprisings that ended the First Order's brief reign.

Due to the nature of their systems, TIE/FO starfighters do not take kindly to aftermarket modifications and upgrades.
