DESCRIPTION
The TIE/CT light tank, better know as the TIE Crawler or the Century Tank, is a lightly armored ground vehicle originally developed by Sienar Army Systems, a division of Sienar Fleet Systems, for the Galactic Empire. Essentially the ball cockpit of a TIE fighter with a pair of tank tracks in place of the usual solar collectors, the TIE Crawler had the virtue of being cheap and easy to produce in vast numbers, even if it was not the best tank the Imperial Army ever fielded. These virtues became increasingly important as the Empire began to lose the Galactic Civil War.

The TIE Crawler is more or less as previously described, although it does have some additional differences to the standard TIE. In addition to the twin medium laser cannons common to most TIE models, the TIE Crawler is equipped with an under-slung heavy laser cannon, giving the vehicle a respectable amount of firepower. The main downside is, unlike conventional tanks which place at least some of their armament in a rotating turret, the TIE Crawler's guns are fixed, requiring the entire vehicle to be traversed in order to aim them; the cockpit pod can be elevated or depressed a few degrees, however. Another notable aspect is the vehicle's armor; the TIE Crawler is made from quadanium steel, the standard material for most TIEs. Unfortunately, this means that while - like the regular TIE - the Crawler can shake off most small arms fire, it is not match for even the most feeble anti-vehicle weapon. The type also retains its large, distinctive frontal viewport; good for visibility, not so much for protection.

In general, TIE Crawlers are intended to attack in swarms, using tactics similar to their flying counterparts; while they are easy enough for another vehicle or heavy emplacement to destroy, there is almost never just one. Infantry with naught but regular hand weapons will find the TIE Crawler tricky to deal with, although a heavy blaster or rocket launcher can usually penetrate the hull.

TIE Crawlers, like TIEs themselves, are to be found on many worlds, artifacts of Imperial control. In the present day, they are used by many local armies, militias and mercenary groups. They are still in mass production, available from Sienar-Jaemus Army Systems.
