DESCRIPTION
The TIE/AG, more commonly known as the TIE Aggressor, is an unusual starfighter which was manufactured by Sienar Fleet Systems for the Galactic Empire during the early years of the Galactic Civil War. Designed to support commerce raiding operations against Rebel Alliance shipping in areas where the Empire had little or no actual jurisdiction, the type was unusual in that it was a twin-seat design with a rear turret, in addition to the normal TIE's forward-firing cannons.

The TIE Aggressor is larger than a standard TIE at 12 meters in length, with unusual bent, rear-tapered solar collectors which provide a better field of fire for the starfighter's main party trick, an aft-mounted dual light laser turret intended to engage pursuing enemies, as well as targets parallel to the ship's course. The Aggressor also has a pair of forward-firing medium laser cannons, plus a concussion missile launcher with a 6-shot magazine, allowing it to do more damage to ships and surface facilities. The Aggressor's performance is slightly below that of a standard TIE due to the increased power demands of the extra weapons; speed is comparable, however maneuverability is only decent. At the time of its introduction, the Aggressor was still comparable to most Rebel fighters, although it lacked shields or a hyperdrive.

TIE Aggressors never quite fit with Imperial starfighter doctrine. The role for which they were intended would likely have been better filled by a long-range type, equipped with at least a hyperdrive; unfortunately, the lack of any hyperspace capability tied the TIE/AG to support vessels, usually light carriers or frigates, where the type's larger size compared to standard TIEs caused its own problems. During the type's initial deployment, the Aggressor also took heavy losses; this was mainly due to Imperial pilots being used to highly maneuverable standard TIEs. Facing the experienced Rebel starfighter escorts in ships with nearly matching performance, these pilots attempted to use tactics learned in their old TIEs, which did not avail them well. This shortcoming was rectified with an altered training program for pilots going into the Aggressor, although this came too late to prevent many unnecessary fatalities. The Imperial Starfighter Corps consequently soured on the type, limiting their procurement orders to small numbers.

Despite this rocky start, subsequent TIE/AG crews grew a fondness for the type, and developed tactics which would prove its worth. In combat, the TIE/AG would skirt the edges of a combat zone, the rear gunner taking pot-shots at any enemy craft they could see; if enemy fighters attempted to engage, the Aggressor would break away and allow it to chase, fending them off with the rear turret while their wing-mate moved in to finish the enemy off. Once all enemy fighters had been neutralized, the Aggressor would press the attack on the main target, using its frontal cannons and missiles.

TIE/AGs served in small numbers through the Galactic Civil War, gaining a reputation as tricky targets despite their inferior maneuverability, albeit only compared to standard TIEs. In the present day, they are quite rare.
