“Control was the wrong word.” Her face crinkled. “You can’t smother them down and lock them away.” Aurora clicked her tongue. “Although, I suspect you are already doing that.” She shook her head. “I can try to teach you to understand your feelings. It is only through understanding what you feel can you begin to master those feelings.” A small grunt escape. “But we are a great distance from that and what you consider stoic.”

Aurora frowned. “I have lived alone for a very long time for reasons you may never understand child. Forgive me for my failings.” She had worked with the Force for decades. She was certain the mastery of her ancestors escaped her, but she was not unskilled. She would never suffer the failings of those who let the Order fall. Aurora was in constant careful control. That would never change.

“I can help you. I only ask one thing in exchange.” She paused for a long moment. “Do not make me regret it.” Her voice was soft. “Please.” Aurora pointed at the floor. “Sit and tell me where that fear comes from.” This was the beginning of something. What? She had no idea. @Iridescence

Theodosia listened, and as she took deep breath and after deep breath to calm herself and rezoned her thoughts, she nodded. Like a little kid being instructed, Theodosia sheepishly padded to where the woman pointed, and fixed herself comfortably. Her legs were crossed, and her hands interlocked themselves in her lap so she wouldn’t fiddle the charms dangling from her wrist.

“You did not fail. I do not listen as well I as I should,” she said gently, her eyes darting back up. A wave of ultimate exhaustion normally slammed her after a vomit of emotions, but Theodosia was still alert and airy. Her ears itched and she resisted to scratch it, wrinkling her nose. She hoped she didn’t have to sit for too long, she could already felt the pins and needles in her rear.

“I guess I should tell you a little more about me, as long you tell me more about you.” The floor and the air was oddly warm and clean, it wasn’t stuffy or humid. She shifted, feeling herself opening up. “I grew up on a small Pantoran colony on Orto Plutonia. I was an only child of my parents and the only child in my generation. I also ended up being the only Force-sensitive, that I grew to know about, in my colony. I was isolated normally, which I did not mind, the older children never bothered with me and I liked keeping to myself...One day, I was angry at my mother for something--of course, I forget what it was about--and I went on a short walk on a gathering path. I came back, must have been gone for maybe half of an hour..” The emotions welled up again, beginning to thrash about. Her hands released and she gripped her knees to steady herself. A stifling breath escaped. “All I saw was blue bodies and the blood around them. Everyone. I do not know who, or what...I just knew from then on, I was going to be alone, truly.”

The Force echoed Theodosia’s isolation. A painful reminder of the of how alone the young child was. Aurora lived her life alone. Her Master passed forty years ago, she had been alone ever since. Her solitude was a choice. A decision for the better of the Order. What this girl was going through was something else entirely. Theodosia had lost everyone she ever cared for, her family, her friend. Gone. That was a pain Aurora did not know.

The child needed help as Aurora had once needed help. Master Orady had raised her and trained her. Theodosia was much older than she had been, but what the young Pantoran needed was much the same. Aurora felt a hot spike of shame. She had been overly harsh. Years of caution had hardened her heart, perhaps blinded her to those truly in need. She would not throw caution to the wind. Just as she would not leave the girl to fend for herself.

“I know loss.” That was true. “I have no words for what you saw or how you must feel.” She nodded slowly. “There is nothing I can do or say that would make you feel a damn bit different.” Yes, this was what the Force desired. “But maybe we can find the truth of what happened.” A true resonance rushed through her body. “I have known the Force all my life. By pure good fortunate, I avoided the clasp of the Empire. I learned to master the Force a different way.” Hmmm, what to do. “The true way.” How much did she dare share? “The way I can teach you. The way that the Empire believes gone and dead.” Aurora ran a hand through her hair. “The way that will bring balance back to the galaxy.” Yes. This was the first step. She could feel her feet stepping on the path. The Force roared approval through her mind.
