[Continued from ‘The Unnamed Tomb’]

If she was certain of one thing, it was that this tomb wouldn’t go unnamed much longer if they didn’t return today. Jedi has a habit of naming places of tragedy. Already two had been lost to its depths, and another pair scarcely made it out again.

It didn’t fill her with confidence is what she was saying.

She dared not say that though, and as they approached are the tomb ilukai kept a stoic silence even as the sight of it looked overhead, and the feel of its vile presence began to assert itself even amongst the immense life of the jungle.

Somewhere in all of this the Jedi has constructed a lightsaber forge in the time of the first Sith Empire. They must have been a different sort of people to think here was a good location, because she certainly did not. Perhaps that was naive, but there had to be better places to hide such things,

“You first, or me Eckaaso?”

The Kaleesh shivered a bit as they stood in front of the tomb. It wasn't fear, but utter... repulsion at feeling the Dark side all around them, that feeling coming mostly from the tomb, but also from the jungle around them. He remained silent, lost in his thoughts, so when the fellow knight talked to him he jerked a bit, recovering from his thoughts. "Well, in another situation I would let you go first, but in this case, I'd prefer to go first" he said, taking his lightsaber and turning it on, the yellow blade humming softly as the Kaleesh knight pacing forward slowly, keeping an eye on his surroundings, resorting also to the Force to avoid being taken by surprise.

Ilukai opened herself up to the Force as Eckaaso did, though the thought to keep her mind closed and yet open all at once was taxing. Deny the dark side trying to worm it’s way in, but sense out her lost brethren. They needed to move quick, lest it all overwhelm them.

But the shadows of the tomb were more then natural, they might as well have been alive. Heavier, darker than black, where there was no clear light one could not see at all, which for now meant anything beyond the dim glow of their lightsabers amidst it all. Finding the right route forward wasn't going to be easy,

“Ever been this close to the darkness aye Eckaaso?” She asked with as much cheer in her voice as she could muster, trying to fend off the fear,

“I remember meeting as a Sith, fighting him, there was so much anger, so much frailty in him, even one so young” she thought back to the Outer Rim, to the ruins where they’d fought... it was not somewhere she wanted to return,

“But this place, this place is darker still” she looked about the main hall once more, paths leading off in all directions. They needed to go down though. The time it took them to divine the right way wasn’t slow, but it wasn’t quick either. If there was a presence still here, it knew they were coming now.

The older knight scanned their surroundings with all his senses, wary about any unusual movements and such. He shook his head at the young woman's question as they advanced. "Unfortunately - even though in a way I could say luckily - no, I've never been that close to the Dark side, Ilukai. And we should hurry in recovering these exploration logs: I have a bad feeling about this" he said as they finally reached the entrance to the chamber where the Jedi that came before them had to stop. "Now. How should we approach these droids. Any ideas?" he asked as he leaned against a wall next to the door, peeking just enough to check the situation...

Ilukai looked out from their hidden position from the droids, and watched them patrol back and forth across the chamber. The constructs seemed unaware of them for now, marching around on predetermined routes that took in the whole room.

From the reports the last set of Jedi had attempted to speak, and then did battle with the machines. Ilukai, however, had another plan,

“Let’s take a our time, the Darkness seems less present here, I think if we...” following the paths of the machines, she explained to Eckaaso a route that would see them move clear past the machine vanguard. The plan clear, they moved ahead, the thumping of the robots metal feet keeping her ever on edge, but the thrill of stealth was apparently something she enjoyed, and moved faster through the maze then ever expected, a timed dash between pillars and patrols that moved like clockwork. If the machines saw anything it was but a shadow, and nothing worth investigating. So well did it go both were through cleanly, and ready to venture deeper into the abyss of the temple.

The Kaleesh followed the other Jedi, quite surprised that they managed to sneak past the droids without being noticed! He chuckled lightly as they hid away, and looked at the woman. "Well, wow, that was easy. Too easy" he said as they proceeded deeper in the tomb. "I wonder where is that Jedi and his notes..." he muttered, looking warily around, keeping his lightsaber out.

"It certainly felt like it, didn't it?" she replied to her fellow Knight "but somehow I don't expect it's going to get any easier before we find them?" the one they searched for clearly had made it just as far as they. She hadn't known them, but they're loss was great, that of any Jedi was in these dark days. They'd lost too many back on Coruscant, and all around. With the Sith resurgent they could not afford to stay stagnant themselves. Hopefully the work here on Dxun would help them regrow their Order all the faster, and be ready for when the Sith revealed themselves once more in strength.

That was of course, provided they made it through whatever the tomb had for them next.

Though it would not be long till they found out, the hallway beyond them became lighter, lamps of sickening green and dim purple flame lit way the way to what appeared to be the burial chamber. How odd it was, to see new light once more. But the light seemed to grow before her as she approached, threatening to overwhelm her. She looked back desperately,

"Eckaaso-" but she couldn't see him, only the strange play of green and purple light around her that swirled and overcame her, tightening around her. Or so it seemed.

The colours began to fade from them, falling into a heady blackness. This was the work of the Dark Side, nothing else. But as a Jedi she had been practicing ward off such evils since the shadow of the Sith had revealed itself once more,

"This is nothing" she looked up, opening her eyes as she felt the Force move around her. Her vision cleared, the tomb was still beyond.

Darkness would not win today.

Eckaaso, on the other hand, felt the Darkness hit him quite hard. As they entered in the room and he looked around the room, he got overcome by the lights. He waved his hands like to try send it away, but to no avail, and even he went to say aloud "Go away! Who are you? What's going on??" Ilukai was able to see that his eyes had been covered by some purple mist that apparently blinded him entirely. Also, his yelling seemingly stirred something in the depths of the tomb... Something that growled loudly and lowly, but it didn't show itself just yet.

In a moment Ilukai had gone from quiet confidence to sudden terror. While she had managed to fend off the assaults of the Dark Side, it seemed Eckaaso had not been so lucky. His shout from behind her made her turn with a start, it wasn't hard to see the mist covering his eyes that would take hold if it remained.

Her first thought was to move to him, to help, but another sound suddenly crept into her mind.

A low growl, an echoing, evil sound that rumbled through the stone of the tomb around them. Whatever would make such a sound, Ilukai had not the pleasure of knowing. Nothing of the creatures on her home of Burinjina made a noise like that, and she had met many of them. This one, she thought, would not be so ready for human intruders here.

Haste then was what was required. And yet what she had to do required just the opposite. She moved with a dart to Eckaaso,

"My friend, hold on, there is light in these walls yet" she spoke to him as she breathed deeply. Even in this grim place, there was still a well of light, and it walked within them. Centring herself, she found it within Eckaaso too, bright, good, and at their call, an ally even in dark places.

And an ally that made its presence known. As she reached out into the Force, the light seemed to grow within her. A sudden burst of white light grew from her hand, sheering away the mist around Eckaaso's eyes, freeing him. Feeling revitalised by its presence, Ilukai turned to face the tomb, and the final challenge that laid before them.

A spirit of darkness, and the captured form of a Jedi Knight within. That was the fallen ally they sought.

The beast now was revealed, and without the element of surprise it might have once had.

The Kaleesh flailed for a little bit, but as the Force's light given by Ilukai sent the shroud on his eyes away, he relaxed, taking deep breaths, and then his eyes widened as he saw the creature. He took his lightsaber and turned it on, the yellow blade's light seemingly sending away the last bits of Darkenss that surrounded the two. He took a defensive stance, his eyes glaring at the creature, then he briefly looked at the woman next to him. "Ready?" he asked, his voice full of tension and even a bit of excitement, due to the fact that his species loved fighting.

Steeling herself, Ilukai looked over at her companion. They’d managed to best the challenges so far with aplomb, but this was clearly the greatest threat yet,

“As I’ll ever be” she offered in dry resignation, putting her lightsaber between herself and the hulking figure of the golem-like sith construct. Giving her ally a nod of acknowledgement, she stepped forward to meet the beast.

It’s heinous energies rolled in waves that buffeted Ilukai as she tried to draw in and circle around it, glowing eyes locking with her own as it’s footsteps echoed through the stone of the tomb. Few things in this world were as fearful as mighty sith creations, though legends told amongst the Jedi spoke of ones the size of cities. She was more than glad this wasn’t one of those,

“Back you devil!” She cried as she brought her lightsaber down across to slash at its outstretched arm. But it moved faster than she expected, swatting her hand away and throwing her blade from her grip. She would have followed it if she could have, but the sight of its chest cavity shunted to the side and revealed more of the decaying Jedi Knight it held within. She could scarcely take her eyes off it.

The Kaleesh circled the creature the opposite way Ilukai did, so they were flanking him, keeping himself ready to attack. Seeing the fellow Jedi fail to damage it, he took advantage of the consequent distraction and attacked, swinging with both hands his lightsaber, aiming to the creature's arm, effectively managing to chop it off!

As her back hit the wall she grunted, there’d be a bruise there if they made it back from this. Shaking her head clear though, she watched as the hulking golems arm fell clean off, cut through by Eckaaso’s blade. The mass whirled around, a guttural, transcendent screams that felt as if it could not come from the body before her.

The humming green energy from within it lashed out, splitting the chest open and offering both a full view of the dead Jedi that acted as the constructs power source. With her lightsaber out of reach, she had to do something other to end this fight. And that was where she saw her chance.

With the thing confused, she reached out with the force and gripped the armoured chest, tearing it open completely. As she directed the energy around the body within, she could feel the dark energies of the thing fight back, of the tomb seeking to wring its powers round her own and suffocate them before she could succeed.

But she would succeed.

With a shout she tore the Jedi from the chest cavity, the body falling to the floor before it. The sake powers seemed to snap off her somewhat, the tombs defender dropping, powerless, to the stone floor with an echoing crash,

“His diary, lets, let’s get the diary” Ilukai heaved, her energy low.

The Kaleesh watched in awe as Ilukai managed to pull the dead Jedi out of the contruct's coffin-like body and also exulted as he saw the monster fall on the ground. But the woman's words snapped him out of exhultations, an so he quickly reached the corpse to search it.

He indeed found the diary, but just after that a blaster bolt whizzed just above his head! He looked towards the door through which they entered, and saw the four droid guards that he and Ilukai snuck past earlier. It looked like the beast's scream had alerted them!

A weak smile was all she could offer to her ally as they snatched up the diary. The fighting, the darkness was draining her after she'd put so much into holding against it. It would be too much to ask then for her to reply quickly then when the blaster bolts started flying her way, the whirs and beeps of the attack droids bouncing off the chamber walls, glowing eyes in the shadow.

She was too far away to cleave them with her lightsaber, and her command of the Force seemed to be slipping away every second. Instead then she lifted her blade and tried to close the distance, heaving her body forwards to try and keep herself safe. Too bad she wasn't quite up to the challenge.

Fighting her tired muscles she fell forwards, stumbling. As the droids raised their blasters toward her she knew she wouldn't be able to hold off a volley, and lurched behind a stone pillar instead, bolts whipping around her, one striking her shoulder with a burn. Ilukai shuddered, but it woke her body up at least, the pain keeping her sharp. Hopefully that'd be enough to snap back into focus soon.

The Kaleesh stood up and quickly advanced, using the pillars that he met along the route to hide himself from the droids and giving them a harder time to try hitting him. When he was like a few meters away from the droids, he focused a moment, behind a pillar of course, and then threw his lightsaber, using the Force to guide it in a wide curve while it spun with a loud humming sound, and with that he managed to cleanly cut in half one of the droids, after which he retrieved the lightsaber and gave a worried look at Ilukai to check how she was.

Hearing the spuns of metal dropping to the floor, she knew Eckaaso had managed to get the better of at least one of them. When she glanced over and saw him, he returned his look of concern with a half hearted smile. They were both doing it tough at this point, they had what they needed, now was the time to get the kriff out of here.

Edging round the pillar she was taking cover behind, Ilukai ducked her head to see the droids stalking through the centre of the hall,

‘Follow my lead’ she thought, using the force to send them to Eckaaso in the hopes he’d follow.

At the back of the tomb there were grave goods, pots, chests, and the decaying remains of the room itself. Reaching out with the Force she gripped them, rattling them and causing a ruckus as if something had moved. The droids heads swivelled, before clunking their bodies forward to investigate the movement, hunting their pray.

This was the time to go.

Standing with effort, she moved as quietly as possible to the entrance, ready to close the door behind them once they were both through. She wouldn’t be contacting the force anymore today, but they were damn near free now, hopefully it wouldn’t matter too much.

The Kaleesh nodded and followed the woman with a rather swift pace, turning his lightsaber off while gently picking up Ilukai to let her have some rest. He tried to be as sneaky as possible, but as soon as they passed through the door, somehow he hit a vase, making it tip over and break, drawing the droids' attention. With his free hand, he used the Force to close the door shut and essentially trap the droids in the room, but not before a couple of blaster bolts hit him, one on his shoulder and the other on a leg, making him gasp and groan in pain. Despite that though, he grit his teeth and proceeded towards the tomb's exit, holding Ilukai up with a bit of effort.

With the door closing behind them Ilukai couldn't help but notice the Kaleesh taking the brunt of the attacks from the droids. And yet still he supported her exit selflessly, she owed Eckaaso a great debt, though one perhaps she hoped she'd never have to make good one.

Stumbling back up to the sunlight of the forest, escaping the tomb was a blessing she could easily see, and with the journal in hand they got what they had come for. The Order would be happy, and hopefully more than ready to heal their injuries after it all. But the scent of the rainforest, the damp of the air, the sudden appearance of life again was more than enough to stimulate her senses once more, one last bit of energy to see them back to the ship, and offworld,

"After all that, if anything ever happens..." she looked at her comrade as they made their way into the skies above, wounds patched as best they could until they could make it home "cremate me, please? I never want to see a tomb again, in this life or the next"

Tearing through the atmosphere, the shuttle jumped to hyperspace to meet with the rest of the Jedi, and let someone else take on the next part of this saga.
