I've been toying with an idea for a Darksaber mission, and I figure that I might as well throw it out here to see what everyone thinks. Normally I'd start by PMing something like this to Radzkie to see whether or not he'd like it to fly, but this time I decided to try it differently. I am pretty certain that he'll like the idea, and it doesn't have a big enough scope to worry about prying eyes.

Basically, I want to round up some Darksaber peeps willing to help me kill high ranking PCs in the various unaffiliated independent factions. The idea is that we can let those factions know that neutrality isn't an option in this war while giving our members some field experience with Force sensitives for when we have to take on the Jedi.

What I'm looking for is people with Force sensitive characters around Knight rank who are looking to improve their Jedi killing skills. The idea is to kill the Jedi in creative ways while using the Force as little as possible. There will be some time to refine specific Force powers for fights, but the goal is to train characters through PC kills to get in and eliminate their target as quickly as possible. The characters gain experience with the possibility of ranking up to a Master level while the players get to refine their dueling skills.

The best part, in my opinion, is that the kills are unaffiliated PCs. We don't have to worry about getting in the Bogan's way or laying a paper trail for the Jedi to follow. Our biggest concern is keeping the kills powerful enough to provide a challenge while not destabilizing the independent faction. If we do this effectively we might end up killing the leadership of some of those independent factions, which could be a bit premature at this stage.

So, anyone up for this?

This is something I'd be interested in. Pre-skip, Cedos went around and recruited lots of the minor factions- I believe we were refused by the Shade. A second offer would be nice, but those who don't side with the Empire should be attacked, be it overtly or covertly.

Which Darksabers would be interested in knocking these rouge factions in line?

I think Tony told me he'd like to do this but I see he never got around to posting. I'll get on his back when he gets online.

This is actually the point of topic that I pester Radz with nearly every time! Seeing as the one active Jedi-aligned force sensitive faction is the Shade, they would certainly be a good start. So yeah, the 'rogue' factions that (Not allied with the Hutts) are active right now are... The Shade and the Ophuchi Clan I believe?

I agree with gambler that going for a wipe-out is premature, but it would certainly be a good test. Also, I have told Radz this already, but it would be nice to see a 'sparring program' established, where Darksaber members can have duels/some battle simulations with each other. No actual death, seeing as it is a simulation, so both sides can actually try as hard as they can to complete the kill within it.

This of course is good practice for all when killing Jedi, which is obviously what we are geared towards.

The Shade Order does seem like as good a start as any. If you want, the two of us can get started right away. Shoot me a PM and we can start scheming about targets.

As for the training program, I don't know how I feel about that. It works for factions who advance based on training such as the Jedi and Bogan, but Darksaber is pretty independent in that regard. We rely on being able to kill our targets as quickly and effectively as possible, which is hard to train without actually killing someone.

One possibility I see, however, is capturing PC/NPC Jedi or Force sensitives then pitting them against our recruits, healing them every so often to keep them in fighting shape, to sharpen skills.

Ah righty, when I meant the sparring program, I didn't mean it to be an IC training (i.e, not advancement and all that stuff), I meant it more to be the writers improving their battle writing. Like the Dueling Ring, deaths don't count, so we can use whatever NPCs/PCs at our disposal, and either design a scenario or just a plain 1 v 1.

So essentially, it's just a simulation that helps the writers gain more experience in duels. The simulations are fights to the 'death' (Whether someone NPCs as a 'Jedi' or it's their own Darksaber characters), but it's within the simulation.

The problem I have with it is that it lacks the element of danger in a PC kill. Both parties involved know that they won't actually die at the end if they don't do their best, so growth is limited. PC kills and IC duels give that extra edge, in my opinion.

That is true indeed, it does feel different. But yes, if we manage to capture anyone, your possibility could work. But for fun/experience anyway, I'd encourage some duels also :)

I agree that if these 'hit' missions go ahead, it'll be much better by far.
