The Army of the Republic

The Republic Military was once a mighty behemoth of a war machine, incessantly hammering away the defenses of its foes with the blows of armored columns and heavy artillery. Row upon row of infantry, clad in gleaming armor, marched behind vast formations of tanks and armored personnel carriers into battle. However, in recent years, the Military has undergone a dramatic transformation.

It has changed from a slow-moving juggernaut into an extremely modern fighting force. Speed and precision rule the day. With a command structure spanning from the lowliest fighting team to the largest of armies, and the implementation of advanced communication networking, every tier of the military has fast and efficient communication. Gone are massive formations; in their place are small, highly-coordinated cadres of soldiers that hit with vicious force and blinding speed.

Supporting the infantry are small teams of armored fighting vehicles. Republic Light Hover Tanks utilize wolfpack tactics to swarm and engulf the enemy in a deadly crossfire, while Main Battle tanks roll into battle alongside the infantry, pummeling their foes from afar with high-powered railguns and laser cannons.

In turn, the armored units are supported by a mix of mobile artillery and ground attack fighters. This deadly mix of combat air support and artillery allows highly flexible fire support, and all such fire support can be called down at squad level, allowing the Republic’s fighting forces an unprecedented level of support in an attack.

Virtually no expense is spared in terms of armor or armament. Combat Hardsuits known as MCA’s -or Modular Combat Armor- are issued to every infantrymen, and heavy assault squads are outfitted with powered armor known as SPAS. [Pictured; left and right, respectively.] High-velocity blasters known as Pulse Rifles are issued to every soldier, with light machine gun and cannon variants being issued to soldiers in various support roles. All armored vehicles are equipped with non-explosive reactive armor to cope with the threat of anti-tank missiles, and virtually every tank has enough passenger space for two or three wounded men, ensuring that in the event of defeat no man will be left behind.

While advanced and powerful, the Army is still in the process of updating its weapons and armor. More than a few suits of last-generation armor are still in service, and while they are being withdrawn as fast as possible and replaced, it’s going to take time. For now, only frontline units are being upgraded, with support units and reservists having to deal with last-generation equipment until the time and funding exists for new equipment to be issued.

The Republic Navy

Like the Army, the Republic Navy has undergone a sweeping change - not so much in equipment as in organization. While the ever-familiar cruisers are still the primary striking force, the Navy has adopted a policy of flexibility in any combat scenario. As such, carrier groups and Wolfpacks of destroyers and corvettes have been formed to support the fleet. Carrier groups are tasked with quickly securing superiority over enemy fighters present in the battlespace. Wolfpacks are dispatched to attack and harass the enemy with high-speed attacks, with the ships of each pack using their great agility to run rings around slower enemy capital ships while strafing them with cannon fire and missiles.

With the fighter support provided by the Carriers and the incredible annoyance given by the Wolfpacks, the Cruisers are left free to pick off and destroy enemy forces, one ship at a time. However, unorthodox manuevers are now the norm, with Cruisers arranging into ‘wings’ of three or four ships and flying in formation through the battlespace much in the manner of fighters while constantly rolling, firing ceaseless barrages into enemy lines while denying the enemy a chance to ever weaken their armor in any one spot.

In the event that the enemy attempts to swarm the Republic’s forces with sheer numbers, the Cruisers are always under orders to form a defensive ‘sphere’ formation around the carriers, providing 360 degree firepower to lay waste to the enemy assault. The destroyers and corvettes remain on-station with their wolfpacks, constantly harassing the enemy to draw their fire away from the main force.
