THE REBEL ALLIANCE

The Rebellion, known by a variety of names, has come a long way from its humble begins following the collapse of the Galactic Alliance. It is a rag tag collection of individuals from all walks of life, with no two individuals or groups entirely alike. Everyone has a background, an agenda, and their own reason for being here, but we are are all of us united by one common cause: defeating the evil of the Sith Empire that has inflicted untold pain upon the Galaxy.

Unlike members of, for example, the Imperial Armed Forces, the Rebellion is made up of a variety of different characters from a vast array of different backgrounds. While all Rebel forces fall under the same umbrella command of the Rebel leadership, different cells have many different specializations, capabilities, and styles.

This thread serves as a partial list of some of the many groups that make up the Rebels as we know them. Is your Rebel a former Imperial soldier, struggling to come to grips with the suffering they've caused? Are you a stalwart Mandalorian, the last of your clan and seeking revenge? Or are you a smooth talking smuggler, looking to stick it to the man and maybe make a quick buck at the same time?

Whoever you are and wherever you come from, the Rebellion has a place for you. Welcome aboard, and may the Force be with you - always.

HISTORY OF THE REBELLION

"If you’re seeing this… you are the Rebellion."

When the Sith made their way towards Coruscant, it was universally understood that an Imperial attack on the capital would lead to the fall of the Galactic Alliance. Those predictions were not unfounded. With the Alliance gone and nearly half the galaxy under the iron fist of the Empress, the Alliance Remnant organized the desperate Alliance forces in the hopes of organizing a counter-assault against the Sith. After years of a seemingly endless Imperial onslaught, however, the Remnant finally fell, but not before scoring one major victory by repelling the Sith from Manaan.

The forces that emerged victorious during the Siege of Manaan became known throughout the galaxy as Defiance Squadron, made up of resistance fighters so determined that they could withstand the might of the Empire for years without any reinforcements. Though any semblance of the former Alliance died on Manaan, the story of what happened became legend and spread across the cosmos, inspiring those opposed to the Sith to begin taking up arms against them.

For two years, these scattered resistance fighters were barely a blip on the Imperial radar. With no leadership and no means of communicating with one another, they were restricted to small hit-and-run tactics against Imperial targets, most of which ended with the resistance forces retreating. It was not until the advent of the Bacta Crisis, when the Hutt Cartel and the Manaan Alliance managed to stop Sith expansion into the Mid Rim by threatening to cut off the supply of bacta and kolto, that the resistance groups were able to start communicating with one another and coordinate their attacks. Though they started communicating from afar through encoded messages, their partnerships would soon become something more.

REBEL DAWN

The seeds of what would become the Rebellion began with Terrsyn Pearot, a former Galactic Alliance officer who led a group of soldiers that once belonged to the Alliance’s 636th Battalion. As more pockets of resistance sprouted throughout the galaxy, a number of fighters joined Pearot and his forces, knowing that there was strength in numbers. Together, they made contact with the government of Surgo, a small mining settlement on Ord Pardron that they had learned was opposed to the Sith. Pearot and his fighters were allowed to construct a base of operations in secret. This became the first official command center for Pearot’s fighters.

Hoping to find additional forces, the now-General Pearot sent a number of operatives throughout the Mid Rim, including worlds bordering the Empire, in an effort to find more troops for their cause. One scouting team reached Manaan Alliance territory, hoping to find any members of Defiance Squadron who had been left behind. The team discovered some of the survivors still living in orbit around the planet. Led by Kara Vaalki, these were the last vestiges of the Alliance Remnant, living aboard a Genesis-class cruiser that had been built by the Selkath in the lead up to the final battle of the Siege of Manaan. Pearot himself personally met them on the ship, and he convinced Vaalki to join him as a General, and her forces followed. Both Pearot and Vaalki knew that Defiance Squadron’s reputation would serve as a significant morale boost for all of the resistance fighters, most of whom questioned whether they could actually win the war against the Sith.

Despite the acquisition of Defiance Squadron and their ship, re-christened as Rebel Dawn, Pearot knew that his small band of fighters was not enough to maintain an effective fighting force. Together with General Vaalki, the two set out to hire bounty hunters, mercenaries, smugglers, and other civilians with connections to the criminal underworld, as the ability to tap into the seediest elements of the galaxy would be crucial for moving goods, infiltrating Imperial territory, and capturing high value targets. The two Generals encountered Wes Tavik, a pirate captain who had gained notoriety throughout resistance circles for raids he undertook against Imperial planets that were said to be impenetrable. Tavik agreed to join their cause, and he brought in hundreds of criminals with him. This group became known as the Civilian Resistance.

With the merger of the 636th Battalion, Defiance Squadron, and the Civilian Resistance, a new Rebellion was born, one more capable of taking on the Empire and, one day, establishing a new republic to replace the fallen Alliance. But they are not an effective fighting force yet. There are more fighters out there, more people who understand that the way of the Sith cannot and must not be the future of the galaxy. They just need to be found. Only then can the Rebellion become something more.

Only then can they become an Alliance for a New Republic.
