Drow Venn, the Ishi Tib Padawan, sat wrapped in furs that local Nelvaanian traders had overcharged him for. However, his thoughts weren't on how badly he'd been ripped off but rather, how much more he'd be willing to pay for more furs - it was bloody cold on this world. Drow had never been much one for the cold but he was particularly bitter about it because of the nature of his mission today.

Having made a stand with other Jedi against slavers on the planet Ord Radama, Drow had refused to let those slavers get away from the battle to pillage another day. Instead, he went on the trail, spending perilous and countless hours until he finally found a contact who told him where the slavers' secondary planet of operations was; the planet Nelvaan. Reaching out to those who'd aided him on Ord Radama and any other goodwilled Jedi, Sector Ranger, or adventurer who was close enough by to hear his call for aid. Looking at those who'd assembled before him, Drow cleared his throat and spoke.

"Right. Two miles down this direction is the stream where the traders say the slavers have taken up camp. Our goal is to get in, free any slaves who might be there now, and capture their leader. Any ideas?"

Wrana was all for stoving in the heads of some slavers, but she liked to have a plan first. Standing out in the Nelvaanian cold with a bunch of strangers, trying to come up with some plan to help rescue the enslaved locals, was not improving her already prickly disposition. When she'd answered a Jedi distress call she'd expected to, at the very least, meet with a proper warrior who had a modicum of tactical and combat experience, as well as a comrade or two. Instead she found herself standing on this frozen plain with what appeared to be a very unhappy old Ishi Tib and a gaggle of especially strange strangers. At least her thick overcoat was blocking out some of the biting cold, as both a Rodian and a Tattooinian she was not overly fond of frigid environments such as Nelvaan.

"Generally you try to learn about your enemy before making plans to attack them." She countered, her voice turned into a heavy electronic bass by her helmet. "I say we scout out their camp then figure out our next move."

Planning generally required intelligence, reconnaissance led to intelligence, therefore good reconnaissance was key to good planning.

Hirani always loved the thrill of landing on a new planet. Okay, fine, not quite always. When they had exited their ship, the Jedi had immediately been whipped with the frigid cold, and almost wished she had not come. She should have worn much more if she was sensible, but after Mygeeto, the young Twi'lek continued honing her Force Sustenance, and thus made the somewhat regrettable decision of applying her training on this mission. Stood furthest from the group, boots shin-deep in snow, the Padawan reached out for something—anything—that she could sense from the slavers at that distance.

Nothing.

We need to get closer.

. . .

When the call came, Hir'anikorssa had wasted no time coming to aid her friend Drow Venn in hunting down the rest of the slavers. It had been hard work, but—after what happened on Ord Radama, and not to mention Mygeeto—the Twi'leki Padawan discovered she had a passion for freeing the enslaved. A passion that came close to being too fiery for a Jedi. On the more positive side, her passion made it clear to her the kind of Knight (and, hopefully, Jedi Master) she wished to become: a Sentinel, perhaps even akin to a Shadow, facing the darkness of the galaxy head-on, and rooting it out. She trudged back towards the group.

"I say we scout out their camp then figure out our next move."

"My apologies, Drow, but I must agree with Kylo Ren over here." Hirani spoke up, deadpan, eyes lifted to the snowy distance. If the other Jedi had not read up on Ben Solo as much as she had, it would likely leave everyone confused as hell. At that thought, she smirked.

"Stealth is one of my strong suits. And with this weather," the Padawan lifted one of her gloved hands towards their targeted location, pointing out the thick clouds: "I should be able to make good use of the snow. And my cloak. And my stun staff, if all goes to szu'tak..."

Considering how well Ord Radama went, Hirani figured it was bound to.

Izel shivered uncomfortably in the snow and wind, quickly wrapping herself in the protective shield of Force Sustain taught to her by Master Bilcus. Looking towards her friend Hirani she couldn't help but feel the tiniest twinge of resentment. She had agreed to come on this journey because the Twi'lek had mentioned they'd be freeing more slaves. She hadn't mentioned they'd be freezing to death while doing it.

"Why is it every time I go on a mission with you I end up in the coldest corners of the galaxy?" She chittered miserably. Listening to the ongoing conversation she found herself agreeing with Wrana and Hirani. She wanted to prove that she could be of worth in combat scenarios, but she still had little experience to go off of. She was very good at sensing other beings through the Force though.

"If you give me a few minutes to meditate I can tell you their numbers and the state of their company." She looked around a bit awkwardly. "Um... Their emotional state anyway. Would that be useful?" She tilted her head, antennae twitching curiously. Come to think of it this was the first time she was going into a situation looking for trouble. She didn't know what to make of things.

Brahe raised an eyebrow in amazement, as the seeker droid deployed from his back.

"ID can scout ahead too." He said, although he was rather impressed with Izel. Being able to sense the number of slavers alone was a rather impressive feat. Sensing their emotions on top of that? Absolutely fascinating.

He felt like he was the only Jedi out of the group that was absolutely comfortable in the cold. The others seemed to be compensating for the cold in some manner or another, but Brahe had simply shown up in his flight suit, ready to go. Although it was a flight suit, it doubled as a relatively easy to move in combat armor, given the armor plating covering most of his vitals. The suit was a relatively new model from Sienar-Jaemus fleet systems, and the design language of older Imperial and First Order flight suits was evident in it's design.

But it wasn't the suit that made him comfortable here, as much as it was his tolerance to the cold. Brahe had grown up on the icy world of Krownest. Snow, tundra, whiteout conditions....they were all a fact of life for him growing up, and so he held a certain affinity to traversing it. Especially after the hell of training that his mother and his Jedi master had put him through, he felt he could tackle the snow like a dolphin swam through the ocean.

Hirani was cute in Brahe's eyes, and he couldn't help but glance in her direction, especially due to the fact that she wasn't exactly wearing what one would call winter attire. Her midriff was completely exposed to the cold! Was she crazy, was she just trying to show off her washboard abs, or perhaps even both?

Brahe shrugged off the thought of maybe talking to her. Work was work, and this was one of the few instances in which Brahe was more concerned about the mission than hitting on his fellow Jedi.

He loaded the E-11 Blaster Rifle slung around his shoulder with a fresh power pack. With the pistol holstered on his right hip, and his lightsaber holstered on his left hip, Brahe honestly looked more like a soldier than a Jedi, but this was practicality speaking- to Brahe it seemed sillier to waltz into a potential combat zone with just robes on. He read in the clone wars that the Jedi eventually transitioned to wearing clone armor alongside their troops, and that honestly made more sense to the young padawan. This was no different. Combat situations called for combat attire, and however crude many Jedi thought a blaster was, it'd allow him to engage the slavers from afar, rather than having to try and close the distance.

Giran sprinted after the group.
they could've at least waited.
He'd stayed behind to double check his equipment before leaving the ship: climbing gear, a basic map of the topography, rations and emergency blankets, you never knew when they could come in handy. As he reached the group they already seemed to have begun talking tactics so he just slinked in behind Brahe and tried not to interrupt. The Rodian was clearly unhappy and he couldn't really blame her. They were all padawans and most of them fairly young at that. She'd probably been expecting something a little more Grandiose. The cold probably wasn't helping much either.

For the most part Giran was loving the temperature of the planet. It reminded him of Mirial except wetter. He was wearing his Maka coat his mother had given him when he'd gotten his tattoos. The short curly fur was incredibly warm and he couldn't help but smile at the others looks of discomfort, well except Brahe but he always looked at ease.

"We should... Um... Prioritize getting the... Um... Slaves out if there are any so try not to... Um... Alert them..." Giran said nervously, the rodian's agitation was unnerving him "Um... Can I just say it's a pleasure to work with a professional" he continued gesturing towards her.

To be honest he was happy all of them were here. Drow was an ex-soldier and a solid dualist, as Giran knew first hand. Izel was smart and resourceful as she'd already demonstrated with her force sense. Hirani had proven herself cunning and commited when they'd worked together before and Brahe... Well he was loathe to admit it, but Brahe was incredibly practical and competent... When he wasn't trying to torment him.
Not a bad little squad.

(OOC: Just switching to Ask so this doesn't get overwhelming. Also I will be submitting this as a retroactive plot to the mods. I want to do one more thread after this to finish up this "Let's hunt the slavers" plot. I'll message you all once the plot's approved)

Drow couldn't help but agree that this was a solid squad. Though Hirani and Giran were far younger than him, he considered them to be peers and knew them to be resourceful and determined. Hirani vouched for Izel and that would have been good enough for Drow but the fact that Izel offered to actually sense where the slavers were was instantly impressive. He was quite certain he couldn't perform that feat in these conditions.

Wrana was a bounty hunter and though that might give some Jedi some pause, Drow's background as a former amoral mercenary meant that he was comfortable with hunters. He knew from firsthand experience that bounty hunters could have a code of ethics, even though it was typically a bit askew. The Rodian had showed up to his distress call so he wasn't worried. Brahe was a relative stranger to Drow but the man seemed at ease in this hostile environment and seemed to have a soldier's mentality that Drow approved of. Though Drow had long ago shed his life as a fighter, he still wore trooper armor and kept a stunner holstered at his side. The Ishi Tib hated violence now but that didn't mean that old habits didn't die hard.

"Let's make we're scouting the enemies there, Brahe." Drow playfully teased Brahe, noticing the man glancing at Hirani's inappropriately attired body.

"Right, if nobody has any objections, let's say Hirani, Izel, Wrana scout ahead and approach the camp from the east? Let us know what you find by giving us a buzz on the commlink. The rest of us can go the long way and approach the slaver's camp from the west. Once you've scouted and give us the intel, we can plan our next move over the comm. Sound good?" Drow asked. Assuming nobody had any objections, he'd start making his way to approach the slaver's camp from t he west.

(OOC: Whoever scouts ahead, feel free to make up whatever defenses/slavers/slaves that you want to be in the camp.)

Wrana had no idea what a 'Kyle Ren' was, or why this tail-head was standing ankle-deep in snow with her midriff showing, but she brushed if off as some kind of Jedi thing. Jedi did weird things like this, she knew they had all sorts of strange magic and stranger beliefs.

"Well, my shivering friend, if things do go to szu'tak you might not get a chance to hit anyone." She turned from dryly addressing the one Rutian to dryly addressing the group. "If the slavers catch wind of us they'll either head out to attack us on mass or, considering we're about four Jedi deep, take what isn't bolted down and run."

If the slavers got away, it would be months before they could find them again, and by that time their 'stock' would be long sold off or jettisoned into space. They needed to catch them by surprise to make sure that the slavers didn't catch them off guard, escape, or do something even more drastic. Because rational decision making and empathy are not two traits slavers are known for. At this point the two other Jedi chimed in, both with (in their own way) useful to reconnaissance.

"How they feel could tip us off to their intentions, and an extra set of eyes never hurt." She cocked her head at the young Jedi with the droid. "Unless your droid is also going to stare at the tail-head's rear whenever she turns around."

More bodies never hurt, but if this drool-monkey was going to spend the entire operation ogling his poorly dressed friend Wrana was going to introduce his crotch to her knee very soon. Although this train of thought was interrupted by the less than timely arrival of another young Jedi, a Mirialan dressed in a thick fur coat and panting like he'd just run a marathon. Despite his ragged voice and appearance, he raised the solid point she'd been driving at with her suggestion, don't spook the guys with a small army of potential hostages.

"Call me Wrana, and relax," She slapped the boy firmly on the shoulder as she turned back to the slaver's camp. "If you shrak yourself they might catch wind of it."

Now that everyone was caught up and a plan had started to form, Wrana intended to head east to the other side of the camp, provided the rest of the scouting party was still onboard.

Hirani sensed that Izel was... not the most warm. Not by using the Force, though: just her eyeballs.

"Why is it every time I go on a mission with you I end up in the coldest corners of the galaxy?"

She didn't reply yet, walking up to the pile of wood she had gathered, between her comrades, kneeling, squeezing her eyelids tight—the Twi'lek wished to kindle a fire within the old, dead bits of bark. All she would need was a spark. Just a spark. It would keep the group warm while they discussed a plan of attack, and give them somewhere to return to after the mission was all said and done.

She slipped her hand in between the gathered bits of wood, and willed the tiniest whisper of a flame out of her fingertips.

"To teach you to enjoy it..." Hir'anikorssa replied, in a very dramatic, very serious, very Master Bilcus kind of voice, while staring off into the distance in his trademark fashion. She then tried her very best to keep a very straight face, staring into her Vratix friend's beady eyes—and was very unsuccessful, breaking out into a playful smile. Even before a conflict, the two Padawans didn't take much too seriously around each other. Well Hirani didn't at least... and Izel usually just shook her head in glorious disapproval. Regardless, it was nice to have one person she felt she could be herself around. As she stood up next to her friend, she did at last take a more serious tone, and was thankful for her friends, and what little warmth the new flickering fire gave. The group was all gathered around it in a (very, very rough) circle now, as they continued discussing the plan of attack.

"Well, my shivering friend, if things do go to szu'tak you might not get a chance to hit anyone."

At first she thought the words were directed at Izel, as Hirani had adjusted somewhat better to the frigid cold than her much taller friend. She soon realized otherwise. And, once again, Hirani could not help but agree with the bounty hunter, even if she disagreed with her on just about everything else that mattered.

"You see, that is what the cloak is for." She tapped her right temple with her forefinger, sarcastic in response to the hunter's dry tone of voice, before doing a little curtsey. She was not at all upset, rather quite amused by Wrana's deadpan confidence. But if the Rodian doubted her ability to keep things from going to szu'tak, the Rutian would not need tell her. Instead, her actions in their little scouting operation, she decided, would speak. Wrana continued on, talking to the rest of the group dryly, and Hirani, for the third time in as many minutes, agreed. "Keeping discreet is key. I've dealt with my fair share of slavers, and suffice to say Wrana's summation is true. More often the latter than the former, in my experience. 'If in doubt, flee for our worthless lives' seems to be the way they go about things, and we can't have that."

One again, she became distracted, pacing, deep in thought. Something felt wrong about the mission, and she couldn't quite pinpoint what. Immersing herself in the Force for about a minute, she tried to reach out to the slavers' camp, but was disappointed to find her senses were no match for those of Izel. While she was in focus, she payed no mind Drow's comment to Brahe about her, the words going in one ear and out the other. Sadly, the same could not be said for Wrana's quip, and the Twi'lek snapped out of her meditation.

"Excuse me?" Hirani spun around to face Wrana and Brahe, fast enough that her lekku arrived a moment later. After that it took her a couple of seconds to process exactly what had been said; until it hit her: Szu'ta. Szu'ta. Szu'ta. She felt her cheeks going pink. What in Faho was a fellow Padawan doing checking her out? Let alone at a time like this. Worse, he could have at least had the half-decency to do so while she was, at very, very least, consciously aware of her surroundings. Almost as bad as being ogled in one's sleep.

On the plus side (which she needed to focus on right about that moment) she did sense that Wrana was disturbed as well: and although the 'tail-head' could not condone the bounty hunter's preferred method of dealing out justice, the gesture presented by what few thoughts Hirani could not help but sense was—albeit in an unnecessarily violent way—kinda sweet.

Thankfully, her friend, the Mirialan, Giran Latt arrived then: and changed the direction of the conversation back onto the mission. Trying to shake her mind off what Wrana had just teased Brahe about, she let herself chuckle at the introduction between Wrana and Giran. Considering Giran was... well, Giran—and Wrana was... well, Wrana—they would probably get along like Lyleks in a bunk bed. On the other hand, it hit her that Giran and Izel were pretty much a pairing made by Kika'lekki herself.

Hirani nodded and left her stun-staff behind when Drow announced the plan. If there were no hitches, she would then set off alongside Wrana, for whom she had a newfound respect. But in the back of her mind, the uneasy feeling surrounding the mission lingered.

An indignant look played across Brahe's face. He had glanced at Hirani earlier. It wasn't like had stood there for several seconds, taking his sweet time and being all creepy about it. It was a GLANCE.

"What- I glance in her direction, and all of a sudden you think I'm ogling her? We're on an ice planet! I'm just concerned that Hirani over here wasn't exactly wearing the right clothing, considering the weather!"

While Drow's comment was rather tame, and Brahe had dismissed the banter as a joke and smiled about it, Wrana's comment had put Brahe in a rather sour mood.

The seeker droid floated away into the distance to do it's reconnaissance- clearly whatever personality the small little droid had, made it want to avoid whatever potential verbal shitstorm may or may not have been started just now. He ignored Wrana and Hirani and began walking in the direction of the slaver's camp, rather annoyed now that they probably weren't exactly on good terms with him.

Stupid Rodian...she's just jealous from being an old hag and no one giving her the time of day... he thought.

There was an element of truth to both camps- It had been true that Brahe did glance at Hirani because he thought she was pretty, but it was also true that he had chosen to ignore those thoughts, so that he could focus on the mission. He just didn't expect the sight police to show up.

"Let's both scout ahead ID..." he said to his droid. "I don't think some of our company likes us anyway...."

His trek through the snow was rather quick compared to the others, just because he was used to this kind of terrain on his home planet. It took a while, but eventually Brahe made it to a hill no more than 300 meters from the camp.

He made his way up the hill as quietly as he could, stopping just shy of the apex, before switching into a low crawl and then bracing himself against a tree.

ID kept itself hidden in the tree canopy, feeding live imagery directly to Brahe's data pad. He made sure the feed went to the others in the group as well, provided they had data pads of their own.

The live video feed recorded a group of 8 slavers visibly moving throughout the camp. In a cage at the center of the camp, there was a group of 12 slaves, clearly being prepped for transport off-world. It seemed the slavers were moving boxes and equipment around, prepping to leave the area once their ship arrived. It was good that everyone had decided to try and free the slaves now. Had they waited any longer, the slavers might have already left.

The 8 slavers on sight seemed to be armed with a variety of weapons. Mainly blaster pistols and blaster rifles, although there was an unmanned E-WEB repeater in the center of the camp, no more than 5 meters away from the slave cage. But ID's sensors picked up more- there were 15 more signatures detected within the tents......and another large one in the nearby river.

Whatever it was, that thing in the river was keenly watching the camp....and it was probably hungry...

Brahe made sure ID relayed the radar data to his teammates as well. This wasn't good- if that creature attacked the camp now, things would become chaotic very, very fast.

Izel sighed at Hirani's response, wrapping her arms around herself and shivering in spite of the fire. "I don't think that's biologically possible for me," She chittered, the attempt at humor flying over her head, as was the case most of the time. "Can't really adapt to the cold if you're not warm blooded..."

She fell silent as her comrades took to talking and planning what their course of action would be, her antennae twitching in displeasure when an argument seemed to brew out of nowhere between them.

"Oh come now," She started meekly, holding a hand out to try and gain everyone's attention. "There's no need for--" Everyone was already dispersing. Izel just sighed and fell in behind Hirani an Wrana. "This isn't exactly what I'd call the best of starts." She said as they walked. "Group cohesion is important. If we don't work in sync with each other we only help our enemy." As the three women approached the camp from the east the Padawan took out her datapad once it started buzzing. Reviewing the information Brahe had sent them she stopped her movement and began to concentrate, antennae twitching idly as she reached out with the Force to get a better sense of what was going on in the slavers heads, as well as their victims.

Those 8 outside in the open were on high alert. There was an air of uneasiness about them, and they seemed very eager to get off the planet, not that Izel blamed them. But there was something more. What was it that had them frightened? Did they know they were coming? Izel clicked thoughtfully and reached deeper. There it was. Two of the slavers in particular felt mournful, angry. They had lost friends recently. Something had been picking them off. Then there was the non-sentient in the water. The Vratix assumed that was the predator hounding the slavers. It was indeed hungry. And it was impatient. The slavers in the tents seemed more at ease. Some were sleeping, others eating their breakfast or chatting. The fear was in them too, but for the most part these ones seemed either too confident or too complacent. Then there were the slaves. Miserable, afraid, angry. Two were very angry. Two humans, close to each other, their minds were filled with furious thoughts. Izel looked up urgently at her allies.

"We need to move quickly." She said. "There's something about to attack the camp, and two of the slaves may be about to make an escape attempt. The slavers are on edge, if something goes wrong they could kill them all." She wrung her hands on her staff, now she was on edge too. This was very bad. If they didn't act fast they would only find slaughter in the valley below.

Giran watched the girls stomp off in one direction and Brahe in the other. Well this was a great start. Knowing Brahe he probably had been checking out Hirani but it was hardly fair to make that assumption, oh and also he hadn't 'shraked' himself he was just trying to make a good first impression. Oh well, no use worrying now. He turned to the only companion still with him, Drow.
"I'm gunna follow Brahe, he might need some back up if things go south." Giran sighed "Come on we can probably catch him before he does something reckless."
As, Giran made his way through the snow his datapad pinged. It was the radar data from ID. He was quick, Giran was only half way up the hill yet. The data was mildly disturbing. There were alot of slavers, more than he'd personally anticipated, and then there was that massive blip.
"What's the local fauna like around here, no way that's like a happy smiley vegetarian friend is there" Giran squeaked into the commlink.

Drow frowned at the show of the group getting prickly with each other but he let it go. Holding onto conflicts, in his experience, tended to only incite further quarrels. He hoped his fellow teammates would learn to let such petty disputes go. The best part about becoming a Jedi for Drow was that he wasn't surrounded by angry, boisterous people anymore. He hoped his fellow Jedi would realize that and rise above petty taunts and grudges. Regardless, he listened to Giran and took off after Brahe, creasing his brow at the intel that was being fed to the group.

"Horaxes" Drow told the group, having done his research on the planet before coming here. "They're big, mean reptiles. Only thing I could think of on this planet that could attack a camp this size and have them worried."

He saw the group of slaves and wondered why there were two humans in the group of Nelvaanian slaves. This planet was not favorable to humans. Perhaps the two of them were luckless tourists or smugglers that got snatched up by the slavers? Or maybe the two humans were from another slaving trip. Regardless, a pang of great pity rose up through Drow at the pain these slaves were going through. He knew that violence accomplished little but he wanted these slaves free as soon as possible.

"We need to move now if a horax is about to attack, get the slaves free and to safety. If you lot can start a distraction in the east, we can move in and defend the slaves." Drow said.
