  • The Padawan duo walked down a seedy street. “Stay ready, it’s—” blaster fire erupted from a building straight ahead. Daybreak sprung into his hand and ignited, the pale yellow blade swatted away three bolts but the fourth and fifth got through. He felt a lance of cold heat slip up his shoulder, and another bite into his left side. Luckily, he’d live, unluckily the attack had been so sudden that he didn’t have time to move. Daybreak at the ready, Leon prepared for the next attack.

"I can outdraw Preeef SHALLOW-" a drunk weequay with exquisite spurs on his polished red boots sat beratingly to a couple of other weequays. They laughed, which made him only angrier. "I CAN-" the drunk weequay suddenly drew his blaster -with admittedly impressive speed- and a bunch of the others did as well. "-they can't keep ME out of the BELCHING FROG SALOON!- he cried as he he began lifted his blaster, with just the slight delay due to him unsteady seeking balance on his drunken legs, "-I was part of HASK VALDEEN'S CREW" most of the scoundrels present remembered the name of the notorious pirate that had captured the president of the Independent Systems Consortium and held him for an impressive ransom. Ofcourse, like most pirates, Hask was killed by law enforcement.

Then -though perhaps not suddenly- the weequay raised his blaster to shoot and was met with overwhelming fire in his direction. Three bolts tore through his chest in rapid succession, but even more -the shooters on both sides being drunk- flew passed him towards a couple of kids in the street. For a second, some feared the worst, but then one of them produced a LIGHTSABER to swat away the incoming bolts.

"THEY'RE JEDI!" someone shouted, then from another direction: "THEY'RE SITH!" One sentence was uttered by more in various degrees of panic. Every scoundrel on Tatooine knew of the devastating power that those with that Force magic could wield. They also knew of someone who had bested them plenty in the past. Preef Callo. The crowd suddenly split apart, giving the padawans full view of a solitary figure standing in the middle of the sandy Mos Espa road. Somewhere, something struck a bell. Was it midnight? Would it struck twelve times, or maybe less?

"Igniting a lightsaber in Mos Espa?-" the sharp threatening voice cut through the sudden silence as the figure, who appeared to be rodian, slowly stepped closer. "-you must really want to join the cartel." Nervous laughter erupted for a few seconds. The Hutt Cartel reigned supreme on Tatooine with the old rodian as its unstoppable and merciless enforcer. Some, those who couldn't stomach the sight of seeing children being murdered in cold blood, slowly stepped away in the nearby alleys, thinning the crowd just slightly. Out here, neither Jedi nor Sith could ever been seen as innocent.

The sea of gathered denizens parted to reveal The Gunslinger himself, Peef Zaa Fenn. Leon deactivated Daybreak, and dropped it, lifting his hands in surrender. He may have been young, but he wasn’t stupid, “I meant no disrespect, Sir. I uh, just have an aversion to being shot, I’m removing my second blade and throwing it to the ground,” he unclipped Alton’s lightsaber and tossed it next to Daybreak. “We’re not looking for a fight, we’re looking for a friend that went missing.

Of course he’d fucked up again. His arrogance, no, his fear had goaded him into reacting, he’d become so dependent on his lightsabers since Berchest, he hadn’t even considered not pulling it. Finally, he said, “I’m throwing my blaster down too.” He pulled the weapon, ejected the battery pack, and tossed them both to the ground. As it landed he couldn’t help but expect the worst. This was it, this was how he died.

Leon didn't look away from The Rodian. He couldn't Adumarian honor dictated he look his killer in the face. He took a breath and accepted his fate. All would be as the Force intended. Everything he’d done had led up to this moment… The irony was he’d known he was insignificant in the grand scheme of things, but now staring death in the face the reality of his place in the galaxy seemed incredibly mean.

Way to go you idiot, he thought. He glanced sideways at Maura, and projected, “Sorry…” telepathically.

Maura was seriously freaked out, but she had no intention of letting that drive her actions. Leon deactivated his weapon and tossed them away, and Maura held both of her hands up in the air so that it would be clear she wasn't looking to be a threat. But what did they do?

"We haven't come looking for a fight!" Maura reiterated. She wasn't sure what else to do in the situation.

"If things go to shit," Maura said telepathically to Leon. "Let's haunt someone as Force ghosts."

Weird, Preef and the others onlookers watched how the kid threw away his weapons and both he and his companion put their hands up in surrender. Not many would trust the infamous rodian's inclinations for the rare moments of mercy that he was known to show, yet some guessed, perhaps rightly so, that with old age the man had mellowed a bit. Some heard he had raised a son, after all. Would a father kill teenage kids in cold blood?

Preef turned his head towards one of the Mandalorians that stood idle in the street, "get their weapons," he told the armored man, who seemed to nodded and approached the two kids to take their weapons from the sand and their bodies if they still visibly carried them.

Meanwhile the Fastest Gunslinger in the Outer Rim sauntered over, "You've come in search of a friend?" he asked, a smile showing as he was putting one and two together. Lightsaber-wielding kids looking to find a friend.. "You do realize that friend cost me a million credits?" he laughed and motioned for them to follow him as he turned and headed towards the Belching Frog Saloon.

Another Mandalorian warrior would be noticeable from a nearby rooftop as the crowd was dispersed by mean-looking gunslingers. This was -without a doubt- what locals called "The Callo Gang" a notorious group of infamous gunslingers that had flocked to Preef like moths did to a flame.

He didn't speak to them at all during their minute-long walk and as he entered the saloon headed straight for the bar, "Three shots of Hutta moonshine," he told the barkeep and immediately the three shots were placed on the bar in front of him and the two kids. "Drink up, it'll dull the pain," he looked at the young man that'd been hit by two light bolts of plasma. It wasn't a bad injury and if he continued on his path it sure as hell wouldn't be the worst he'd ever get.

"Now," he took his own glass and shot it back, savoring the taste of his favorite drink. "Now that the whole of Mos Espa knows you're Force sensitive," his eyes hardened as he said it, which showed the two padawans that he wasn't a fan of both the Force and its practitioners. He waited for both of them to take their shot, in which they really had no choice, before he continued; "Tell me how you plan to leave Tatooine alive."

Deal,” he projected back to Maura as the Mandalorian closed in following Peef’s order to gather their weapons. Leon’s heart was beating like a jackhammer. At any moment they could be dead. Peef stepped forward and told them how much he’d paid for Liana. Baudelaire did his best, but he couldn’t keep all of the shock from his face.

I didn’t know that,” replied Leon.

Leon’s eyes stayed on a swivel as they were marched toward The Belching Frog Saloon. Baudelaire spotted the Mandalorian on the roof, and began to realize where exactly they were. They were walking into Peef Callo’s bonafide hideout. This was way cooler than he’d thought it was going to be. Sure, he was probably going to die, but at least it would be a cool story. Well, he hoped

As they entered, Leon looked around. There had to be a way out, a back door that wasn’t guarded, something… but if opportunity was hidden in the bar, he couldn't see it. Peef offered them a drink, “Thanks,” he said with genuine gratitude in his voice. The burns on his arm and leg had been killing him this whole time, and while he was pretty sure a single drink wasn’t going to help that much, he wasn’t about to say no to his favorite vice.

Leon took his shot right after Peef. Then The Rodian asked them how they planned to get off the planet.

Uh, I was hoping in the dead of night and in a hurry?” Leon tried.

Liana’s price was mentioned earlier and their predicament told Leon, Peef was going to squeeze his money from someone, He decided if it came down to it, he’d take the fall. He hadn’t been on a mission with Maura aside from this one, but he wasn’t sure the life of a syndicate grunt would fit her style. At least he was a good shot. Maybe he could work his way up and find a way out down the road… What was he losing? Oh, just the friends and home he’d finally come to love. No biggie right?
