THE ONA’BAK RETRADE
A Higher Form of Crime

The Retrade operates in the philosophy that one does not have to be a petty gangster in order to profit from illegal activities. With caution, discretion, and a stellar reputation, the Retrade has always striven to create an “under-galactic” network of criminal contacts upon which a fortune may be made by circumnavigating intergalactic law. Thought the years of its existence, the Retrade has crafted a masterful web of salesmanship and ruthless efficiency, often providing the equipment and force needed by both major corporations and lowly street gangs. The Retrade rarely fights over territory because it operates within it without needing to control it; while two gangs kill each other for control of a planet, the Retrade will sell them better weapons and medical supplies. Such is the way the Retrade has maintained power through terrible hardships and a massive and competitive market.

By holding its members and its clients to high standards, the Retrade has ensured smooth operation and a reliable reputation upon which to base their word. These high standards are of the utmost importance to the Retrade and cannot be betrayed.

The Retrade Tenets

  • Do not compromise the secrecy of the Retrade.
If we attract attention, we cannot conduct business.
  • Do not commit a crime against another member.
If we harm one another, we are weaker to outside threats.
  • Do not cost the Retrade money.
If revenue is compromised, expenditures cannot be maintained.
  • Do not interfere with Retrade business.
If we step into one another’s path, we cannot move forward.
  • Do not harm the Retrade’s reputation.
If we cannot be trusted to provide an efficient service, we cannot exist.

Penalties and Punishment in the Retrade

For most minor offenses, the Retrade is satisfied to levy fines upon its members to cover any expenses, both obvious and unforeseen. In the event of a more serious crime, the Retrade entrusts the immediate or district superior to decide of his own accord a punishment appropriate for the crime which may or may not include corporal punishment. Capital punishment can only be issued by corporate power, such as the Prime Executive of the Guildmaster, but may be carried out by anyone instructed to do so.

In the event of a personal crime committed between members, the offended has the option of challenging the offender to an honorable duel. Such duels must be conducted in the presence of a superior, and the parameters must be decided before the duel ensues. The offended may decide the manner in which the duel is conducted, and the superior must acknowledge that the duel commences in a fair and honorable fashion. Duels may be to submission, to first blood, to the pain, or to the death. After a duel takes place, the matter cannot be raised again unless committed again on a separate occasion. Any duels that ensue must be witnessed and preferably recorded, and a report must be submitted to corporate within seven days.

Families and the Retrade

Familial ties are very important in the Retrade. Such ties help to keep loyalties close and the knitting tight. Blood ties are often tracked by corporate to ensure proper passing of responsibilities in such events as abdication or familial notifications.

It is important to understand upon investment in the Retrade that families are viewed as a single entity, each member of the family an extension. When one member of the family performs admirably and benefits the Retrade, the whole family may be rewarded and sought after. Likewise, when one member of the family wrongs the Retrade, any or all members of the family may be punished according to one’s actions.

The Retrade cares for its members and their familes, and believes in keeping its members content to ensure loyalty; nothing less than implicit loyalty is expected, and its members are held to high disciplinary standards to separate the Retrade from a common street gang.

War and the Retrade

War can be very profitable for those who know how to sell it. During the eruption of the war between the Sith and the Alliance, the Retrade chose to stay uninvolved in the combat, having just begun the rebuilding process from a string of devastating attacks upon its enclaves. It did, however, earn massive revenue from planets raising private militia and security forces; the Retrade supplied them with the very best weapons for prices that were inflated by desperation. This money was precisely the start the Retrade needed to begin rapid expansion to gain back what it had lost, and then some.

After the appropriation of the Retrade Pirate Fleet, the decision was made to begin forging alliances to better involve their influence in the war. While losing ships and members is never profitable, having the power to defend its business or to harass curious patrols has become invaluable to the Retrade, and solidifying alliances and partnerships with major factions through war is a bond not easily broken.

The Retrade has recently concluded that war can be a profitable endeavor as well, and has offered the support of its fleet to the allies that can trade for their business.
