"It worked great! Couldn't be happier! I was a little worried about getting caught before I got to the target- these things will get you an instant Death Mark on Imperial worlds- and then, not gonna lie, I almost panicked when I pulled the trigger and people started to notice that high pitched squeal from the charging capacitor. It all worked out in the end though. The poor Hutt-slime didn't realize what was happening until it was too late. There was a big green flash, and next thing you know the sucker face is practically vaporized on the spot- literally dust in the wind. It was crazy to see! I'll have to try it on some other organics, see if it makes them puff into different colors or something... The smell was pretty awful though."

The March of Progress

The 7th Timeline brought with it many huge changes to the site- among them a major revamp of the Tech Rules and the way items were submitted and approved. This covered everything from the way armor worked, categories of weapon damage, the gentech boards themselves, and many many other items. For the 8th TL, many folk will be happy to hear that the bulk of the current rules will remain intact, along with most of the templates and processes that you've become familiar with. We have, however, made a number of tweaks and adjustments to re-balance things and fix a few issues, and introduce a little more variety and options to certain types of tech. I'll remind people that it's important to READ THE RULES before you submit new tech next timeline, but here's a summary of the most important changes:

  • Making Blasters Great Again: Blaster weapons were severely underpowered in the 7th Timeline if the death results are anything to go by, and armor that protected against them was over powered- especially when combined with the numerous other methods of defense most characters had at their disposal. For the new Timeline, weapon damage categories have been better defined and are generally much more deadly. Taking a blaster bolt is no longer something to be shrugged off and all but ignored. To balance this a bit better and bring things more in line with canon, they are also much slower firing than they have been portrayed very often this TL.
  • Armor: On a similar note, the new armor system wasn't entirely balanced as-is. We've made some changes to the coverage areas to make things better defined, adjusted the descriptions and limitations of wearing heavier armor, and changed the way it offers protection. Armor is less protective than it was before- it will save your life from an otherwise deadly blow, but in most cases you'll still suffer an injury.
  • Starships: We've loosened the restrictions on the capabilities of starfighters and better defined crew requirements for larger ships. You can once again zip around in your own personal starfighter, if you put in the effort to acquire a good one, but it's still gonna be slow and uncomfortable.
  • With the continued perfection of regular old blasters, Pulse Wave guns have finally seen the end of their operational lifespan and have been almost entirely phased out. In their place though, the use of new weapons called "Disruptors" is the new hot commodity for vicious and painful destruction of ones targets...

That's the high points, but I've also done a lot of clean up and minor tweaks as well, so be sure to read everything when the full text is released or I will happily archive all your stuff. Theres been small changes to faction, generic, and advanced tech guidelines all three, new blurbs on droids and cybernetics, and more. Now, before I open things up for the inevitable barrage of questions, I'd like to leave you all with one last major reminder:

ALL TECH AND GENTECH IS BEING ARCHIVED

So if you have anything you're really attached to, copy it over to your workshops now. @AutoFox and I (and when I say "Autofox and I" what I really mean is "mostly just Autofox") are busy working up loads- literally numerous pages- of all new baseline tech, and while we may reuse some items from this TL we cannot give an exhaustive list and we dont have time to move things on request, so if you want something it's your responsibility to grab it before it's gone. And... that's it. That's all I've got. Let's do this.

i assuming hyperdrive equipped fighters will be far less effective than a non hyperdrive fighter

Well the X-Wing could go to hyperspace and yet is vastly vastly superior to the TIE Fighter, something which can't go to lightspeed
X-Wings were also thousands of years in the future and at the time were cutting edge tech. They were a big deal because they had hyperdrive and if I'm remembering things correctly they were one of the first to find the right balance between maneuverability, hyperdrive capabilities, and having shields. So they are probably well outside the tech capabilities of our TL.

I know, I was just using it as an analogy. I didn't think that X-Wings would be a thing next TL lol

some thing people forget is the TIE was built to be easy to make and cheap.

Consider this:
In the Force awakens when Fin and Poe are escaping the order destroyer they steal a tie and Poe says "Whoa these things really move!". That suggests to me that the Ties may have higher acceleration/deceleration speeds than the larger heavier x-wings. It's like 0-60 vs top speed. Sometimes acceleration is the more important factor, especially in dog-fights. Also in 'Awakens' the Ties are shown hovering and holding position in mid-air when Kylo is retreating after the attack on Maz Kanada's bar. X-wings have been shown to have vertical take-off ability, but never hovering in a gravity-rich environment. Plus, if you consider how every time we see a skirmish between x-wi gs and Ties, we see x-wings getting chased down and shot down from behind, we might consider that the Ties have a higher sublight top speed. And, as @Andrewza pointed out Ties are cheaper and easier to manufacture, meaning that they can be produced in higher numbers than x-wings. In many ways quantity can compensate for quality.

So the Ties may only have a disadvantage in a 1v1 comparison.

Well yeah, x wings zoom in and $@/! stuff up, ties launch like a swarm of the scariest deer flies from a hanger and shred you from all size.

I wouldn't call either ultimately superior by any means.
