Talked with @Malon about this and got it the general idea approved. However, I am all about efficiency, so I've not narrowed down the planets yet so the planets selected can be planets that benefit other people's schemes and plans.
She lost some credibility when one of her operations were botched, but she's remained in power. Opportunistic and hedonistic, she is immensely loyal to the empire. She narrowly avoided death during the Moff Massacre as she was disgraced at the time (actually established in my post in that thread) due to her schemes at Vontor uncovered by the Jedi. The emperor was injured during the bombing and has some armor now which covers most of his body. My plot idea is that Moff Luxina has her suspicions about the bombing, especially as Malak Ambros has yet to be captured. She believes that Emperor Malon actually died during the bombing, and Malak has been posing as him, assuming his identity to take the throne.
Over the years, she searches for clues, but finds none; she interprets this not as "hey, he's not Ambros" but instead that the traitor covered his tracks too well, so she plots to remove Malon. She herself does not seek the throne, and is fine with Cain assuming the throne, but doesn't try to bring him into her coterie because she has reservations maybe Cain is in league with Ambros and that's why the guise hasn't been unmasked yet.
The premise is the sector which this will take place at (undetermined at this time) is currently being annexed by the Empire, with some pockets of resistance; the emperor himself is officiating the annexation of one of the major worlds which agreed to join without conflict (a PR move by Malon). For clarity's sake, as area hasn't been decided, planets are dubbed Planet A, Planet B, and Planet C. The threads would be as such:
1. Luxina plans to use a mercenary group (name up to you guys, considering my reputation, lol; if any of you have any mercenary groups in your backstories, feel free to offer them here so they can tie in more, I love tying in stories together) in her move against the emperor. However, they were assigned to attack one of the other hostile planets in the sector, Planet A, hired by the empire. Luxina uses her authority to petition Sith/imperial operatives to go to Planet A and assist the mercenaries in finishing the job, on the premise "the emperor wants the planet conquered before his ceremony takes place". The thread involves the Empire characters aid in crushing the last of the resistance.
2. This thread takes place during the ceremony, seeming all happy-dory, with the emperor making an appearance with some of the planetary leaders of Planet B. As it's going underway, a bomb goes off (intended for Malon). The mercenary group, having arrived from Planet A, attacks the ceremony, to neutralize any survivors. Malon and another character struggle through the chaos to survive and learn of Luxina's schemes.
3. Luxina, learning Malon survived the operation on Planet B, has fled to the hostile Planet C, selling herself as a defector to Planet C's leadership, willing to trade imperial secrets for protection. However, in reality, she has no intention of betraying the empire, and purposefully leaks her asylum deal to SIN to attract Malon's nearby fleet. Her objective is to pit Malon's fleet against Planet C's fleet in hopes of destroying Malon's flagship with him on it. The emperor sends a couple characters planetside to confront and deal with Moff Luxina. My hope is that in her final moments she shares her suspicions, maybe leaving some doubts in the operatives, but that's more ideal outcome than necessity.
