The Kiffar are a near-human race originating from the planet Kiffu; that much about them is public knowledge. Their clan system however, and specifically the Kron Clan, is less well known. The Kron Clan dates back thousands of years, and are known to be a generally force sensitive family, generation after generation. They became so accustomed to this that non-Force sensitives born into the clan were seen as inferior, and were disallowed from carrying on the Kron name, to try and keep their clan "pure". They did not restrict relationships and families with other species, as long as they were Force sensitives.

Because the Kron Clan was mostly Force sensitive, many of its members joined the Jedi Order early in its creation, and a third of those who joined fell to the Dark Side during the initial split between the Jedi and the future Sith. Due to their close association with the Jedi and their own, anti-Dark Side beliefs, the fallen Dark Jedi were banished from the clan. Shortly before this turbulent period, the elders of the clan began to experiment with Force forging, and developed the Gen'Al Blade, a unique, triple-edged short sword. This weapon soon became the symbol of their clan, and of respect among members. Once a Force-sensitive Kron became recognized as an adult at age 18, they were taught how to forge the blade and permitted to weild it; non-Force sensitives were strictly forbidden to even own one. Because of the incredibly difficult process of corrupting the Kyber crystals within the Gen'Al blades, the fallen, Dark Side Kron members created their own variant, the No'Maëd Blade, created using the sharpened bone of a Krayt dragon and placing a corrupted Kyber crystal in it's hilt. Unlike the Gen'Al blades, these dark variants were only double-edged, but appeared to be wreathed in flames.

To nobody's surprise, the tradition-centered Kron Clan took great offense at this "heresy" and hunted down and killed all of the former Kron members who created one of these blades, before proceeding to destroy them. The secret on how to create them was not lost or destroyed, contrary to the Elder's belief, rather the former Krons had written a document of instruction and given it to the Dark Jedi's leader. After a few years, the Kron clan made an exception to their rules; non-Kron Jedi could now wield Gen'Al blades if the clan Elders deemed them worthy. The first blade to be used by a non clan member was given to the Jedi Grand Master as a sign of respect, and was the Gen'Al Sword variant. Over the next hundreds and thousands of years, the Kron Clan became smaller and fewer of its members joined the Jedi, with only about 3 Krons present in the Order per generation. This was due to many of the clan's members leaving the strict traditions of the clan to do their own thing, and an increase in non-Force sensitive families. Eventually, about 4000 years after they rose to prominence, the Kron elders decreed that non-Force sensitives could stay in the clan, but the damage had already been done as many members had left or ignored the Elder's authority.

The Kron Clan marks all their members with permanent tatoos, which are 2 black crescent shapes that curves inward on their face, running from the ears to lower cheeks (near mouth), and another that stems from it that ends at the nose and curves upward under the eyes.

Intent —
I am creating this lore article to add some history to my Kiffar Jedi's clan, especially after I created the Gen'Al blade as a first step towards exploring the Kron clan's history. I also wanted to expand on their lore and encourage other site members to make Kron characters, especially with the timeline change coming soon. This also gives people some better insight into the importance of the unique Gen'Al blade to the clan's culture and history. If people wish, I will also write and generic tech write up for the new Dark Side version of the blades, the No'Maëd blades.
