The Dressel Files

I had hoped they would be cool about this, this was supposed to be two Rangers working with each other without letting all the red tape get in the way. I shared some information that I knew would help crack open one of their cases, and I'd get the five minutes I needed with one of their prisoners. No one was going to get hurt, but the kriffing fool had to go rat him out to both their chiefs. All because of some old grudge from their desk jokey days. Even after all these years, having left the desk behind and being a field agent for so long, the fool hadn't lost his idiotic fixation with god damned office politics.

You know what they say, you can take the man out of the office, but you can't take the office out of the man.

So here I am, sitting at my desk, staring at the infamous Dressel files. A series of cases going back decades, it had started as a simple mistake when some intern re-organizing some old files had accidentally assigned a bunch to an old Dressellian detective. Close to his retirement, he was more than happy killing time working on dead cases rather than busting his balls in an active investigation. Over time the cases became famous, as punishment or a reward depending on who it was given to. An ever growing pile of unsolved cases, with almost no connection between then. And now it had landed on his desk. The infamous Dressel Files.

This is meant to be a story tracker of sorts for my Ranger Kalen Adaephon Ultor, as he works his way through a stack of seemingly dead cases that landed on his desk as punishment for causing a bureaucratic kerfuffle that left his bosses more than a little inconvenienced.
  1. [Case 1]: TBA
  2. [Case 2]: TBA
  3. [Case 3]: TBA

Lymsleia Tane would be perfect for investigating something.

I'm thinking that Lym comes across some old translation records when researching for her thesis that are linked to one of the cold cases. She discovers that the translation was made in the wrong context/tense and completely threw off investigators, bringing a brand new clue to light. Not sure on specifics and whether it's a murder, kidnapping, high-value robbery, etc. But she'd make a nuisance trying to contact someone about it.

That's just a vague idea though, happy to do anything else!

Sounds like a fun concept to me! We can figure out the nature of the crime as the case develops! Do you wanna start the thread?
