UPDATE ONE:

18/10/2017 - Due to comments about the name, and my agreement that the name should be changed I have opted for the name "Dread Council" I hope that all those who have considered the name change are happy, however I am still open to suggestions..

18/10/2017 - "The Chosen." : Due to the amount of popularity this idea has attracted, I have added a new section to the post, which covers my initial thoughts on how I can incorporate ALL into the story line.

Update Two:

23/10/2017 - History Update:

Centuries ago, a small but powerful contingent of the Jedi - compiled of Jedi Knights, Masters and Councillors alike began to study, even use the Dark Side of the force. Their need to seek such powers was born of a both bloody and heated conflict. These Jedi used the power of their emotions, experimented with powers, harnessed secrecy and deception to defeat their enemies... But it came at a cost. Consumed by the power they had sought they fell, almost willingly, to the Dark Side - unable to be redeemed by even the greatest of the Jedi's Healers.

Their corruption and taint saw them banished from the Jedi Order, viewed as exiles for the rest of their days. It was a select few of these Jedi Exiles that would be the first to don the title of "Dread Master." Sulking into the shadows of unknown space they formed the Dread Council, a group whom acted from the background, choosing to engage those they considered their enemies indirectly. As the power of the Dread Council grew, they instilled chaos and fear throughout the galaxy. Sparking small and insignificant conflicts across the galaxy the Dread Council distracted the Jedi from their main fight, at the same time, masking their own presence. All the while growing stronger, amassing a cult like following and increasing their own powers of the Dark Side.

As architects of fear and masters of the Dark Side, they revealed themselves and all that they had built, but betrayal from within their ranks saw them fall before their final goals could be realised. An order of darkness, forged beneath a single banner. Their banner. They had however learned a most valuable lesson, that the galaxy couldn't be taken by force and that numbers counted for nothing in the end.

Thought to be totally annihilated those that remained of the Dread Masters slipped quietly back into the night, those that sat on the Dread Council slaughtering all but their direct successors. Returning to their old ways, they began to orchestrate cabals, corrupting and causing fear in notable individuals and creating horrifying monsters of the Dark Side to terrorise major cities.

With all the original members of the Dread Council dead it falls to their descendants and successors to rebuild their power. Once more readying themselves to reveal themselves, and prove that their is no greater power - than fear incarnate.
