Coruscant/Underworld

Murder, gun running, drugs...basically any form of crime imaginable was simply just another daily occurrence in the Underworld. Nobody cared about it. The surface was too busy caring about more trivial things that affected it day-to-day, than about what was happening on the levels beneath it that would potentially never reach them at all.

But every once in a while something would happen in the Underworld that would attract enough attention to warrant a reaction from the surface.

This was one such situation. A swoop gang locally known for all kinds of illegal and messed up activities managed to kidnap, violate and murder the daughter of a guy who just so happened to be in charge of the largest shipping company between the surface and Underworld. So it was safe to say that he wanted this gang taken out by any means necessary. Sadly for him, the Underworld police was already spread thin, so relying on bounty hunters, mercenaries and hopefully more legitimate law enforcement groups was his only choice.

Arden liked jobs like these. Killing degenerates who deserved to get their heads blown off was always more satisfying than killing people that didn't necessarily deserve it. So jobs like these were a treat to do.

He was walking along the sidewalks and roads of the level, studying and analyzing all manner of things. He knew where the gangsters were. The issue was all the other variables...as well as the competition. He had spotted and also bumped into many bounty hunters and mercs who were all after these gangsters. Some even tried to take him out, which ended about as well as one could expect for them. He turned a corner and started to investigate the next part. He had a pretty decent image of the area already. All the angles and vantage point. All the bad and good spots. He also made very sure about all the entrances and exits over the abandoned factory they were hiding in. they weren't going to escape him...

Gods, the wound still hurt. Well, all of them, really. Kal idly rubbed at his stomach, at where the stab wound from a recent mission had made him bleed pretty good. Luckily no vitals had been hit, so just a flesh wound, but it was a reminder of his failure. A Judge was missing because he couldn't find the man, most likely dead to the Black Sun now, and it was his fault for not being good enough. Sure, they said that there wasn't much he could do if the man had slipped his protective detail before they had even arrived, but that didn't help him feel much better. Perhaps that was why he was still down here, deep in Coruscant, trying to find out anything he could. Sometimes he hoped the man would just walk out of the next doorway, a couple hookers on his arms after having had an enjoyable bout on the town. Or perhaps he would find someone talking about him, or even a body if he'd been killed. SOMETHING. Some kind of closure.

Still in his bounty hunter attire, badge hidden but weapons visible as he made his way around, he heard the sound of raucous laughter and revving engines coming from an abandoned factory. It didn't take much to discern that some kind of gang, probably a swoop gang, had moved in to the place. Perhaps the Black Sun had hired someone to take out the Judge, or kidnap him? Perhaps those were the sounds of criminals celebrating a job well done? His depression being pushed away, Kal straightened up as he first checked the area for cameras or other observation. There didn't seem to be any, typical for egotistical criminals like these, so he headed towards an outside stairwell for access to some of the upper catwalks. He moved with enough care to not rattle the metal, wanting to get a good vantage point to see what he was dealing with.

Completely unaware of the other being targeting the warehouse, Arden approached from the rear. A drunken gangster stumbled out from a rear entrance, not even registering the Mandalorian approaching him. Without a word, Arden drove his vibroblade into the man's heart and let him fall to the ground as he retrieved his blade. He then continued on with a hum towards a circuit board on the back. He planted a few strips of welding putt along the wires then closed it off once more to keep his sabotage hidden.

After a few seconds of looking around, he fired up his jetpack and flew up to the roof. The sounds of the warehouse and the rest of the Underworlds would likely keep his position hidden, but there was still a chance the hunter on the other side could hear him.

Once on the roof, he drew his pistols and got ready to breach. He made sure his grenades were ready, his suit functions were operational, and his jetpack was on combat mode. He planted another layer of welding putt on a thin piece of roof plating for an easy breach. "Showtime." he quipped to himself as he hit the detonator.

The circuit board burnt out, flooding the place in darkness. Surprised shouts and stumbling could be heard from inside, a perfect indication for breaching. Next was the roof, the welding putt melting the cheap metal and burning a hole for him to jump through.

Arden made his move, jumping through and descending with his jetpack as he switched to night vision and started hurling round after round at the blind gangsters underneath. He was going in head first into the devil's den...but he wasn't the one who had to be afraid. The breaching would only happen after his rival breached, most likely causing quite a bit of confusion.

Kal had been just about to break in when he heard someone else start an attack, both glad and afraid of this interloper. What if they knew something about the Judge? How could he get his Justice if this lead were lost? He kicked in the door to the second floor, rifle drawn and about to yell that he was a Sector Ranger when...He found himself in the old factory's office. It was being used by the gang's leader, apparently, and was a mix between a bedroom and a trophy hall. By the Force, the man seemed to be incredibly vain as he kept up pictures and even open datapads with his conquests...Not all of them just being in battle or racing.

Kal read through all of them, ignoring the sounds of fighting from outside for the moment. As he read, the more enraged he grew at just how depraved this man was. Kidnapping girls to hold for ransom, impregnating them so that when they returned they were broken and eventually he'd extort them for even more money to keep his part in their new family quiet. Killing men, women, children for any payment or just for fun. Nothing in there was about the Judge, yet there was more than enough to show that this man and his gang deserved the harshest of punishments. Seeing red, Kal grabbed a loose set of nightvision goggles and used the interior door to go out into the factory proper, wondering if the other attacker had left anyone alive. Justice would have to be served SOMEHOW.

It was a bloodbath. In the darkness the criminals didn't stand a chance. Blue and red bolts flew all over, hitting the walls and pillars. An explosion erupted from a fuel drum which knocked people off their feet, Arden included. But he was a lot quicker to get back on his feet and pretty soon he was firing away once more.

After a few minutes there were only a few people remaining. Arden walked through the corpses, picking off the survivors as he looked for the leader. One tried to crawl away, receiving a bolt in the back. Another was hiding behind a pillar, trying to get an opening to run for his swoop. Arden waited patiently for him to make his move before gunning him down. The last one to remain was the leader. He was trying to crawl towards his office but stopped as Arden loomed over him. "Please, no! I-I got money, drugs, whatever you want! Don't do this, man." he tried to plead. But the emotionless T-visor didn't move. A pistol was raised and a finger started to squeeze the trigger, but Arden was promptly interrupted as a door was flung open.

When Kal burst through the door, a barrel was staring him down. Arden kept one pistol on the gang leader as his second pistol was trained on the lizard's head. "Sorry to break it to ya, sunshine, but this bounty is mine." he said flatly as he looked back down at the gangster. He had half a mind to end this bounty hunter as well, but that wasn't priority right now. Maybe this one was as smart as the others and knew to walk away...

In this state of mind, Kal's reflexes took over as he saw the weapon swing around to be pointed at him. He dove for cover, landing behind one of the swoop bikes, and in trained speed he was using the vehicle to steady his rifle even as it obscured most of his body. He was aware of what was still sticking out, prepared to pull the trigger if he saw the gun move any further. Of course, the weapon was set to stun. That was the other reflex that he had, as dead men couldn't be brought to justice. The back of his head kept questioning him about what WAS justice, though.

"Whoa, calm down there, Chief. I'm no bounty hunter. I'm a Sector Ranger, Kal-Zyn-Dross. I'd show you my badge but I get the feeling you wouldn't care. We've got some other Mandalorians on the force that are a bit blase about it." Roland was one that came to mind, though he seemed to be quite reserved compared to this firebrand. Perhaps it was because this one was more a bona fide bounty hunter. "I've got no interest in any bounties, but there's enough evidence in that den up there to put this guy behind bars for a thousand years. Let alone any crimes he HASN'T bragged about in his personal putrid museum. He's under arrest." Despite saying this, he kept his gun trained on the Mandalorian. He wanted to shoot the scum right then and there, but he believed in the law and justice. And there was a high chance that breaking this stalemate would just have the bounty hunter shoot him and be done with it. At least by his movements he'd show he wasn't just some bumbling cub trying to cut their teeth on a mark. He'd had his own bouts of combat.

Arden kept his aim on the lizard, staring him down as he dove for cover. He placed an armoured boot on the gangster's neck to keep him down as he trained his other pistol on the cop as well. "A badge means more than your word, bu' I'll take your word for a bit." he said flatly as he kept his aim on him.

The new arrival continued on, explaining why he was there to begin with. Arden scoffed. "Hate to break it to ya, bu' the guy who hired me intends to see this guy's head on a platter as soon as possible. And after wha' this skug did to his daughter, I intend to follow through with tha'." he explained as he slowly applied more pressure to the man's throat under his boot. The man choked and struggled to break free, but to no avail. "So I suggest you lower your gun, or else I'll add a badge to the tally for this evenin'." he warned coldly. His jetpack was still primed and ready to fly in case he needed to. And the aim he had was still pretty solid.

"This guy isn't gettin' ou' of this buildin' alive at the end of this."

A sanctioned bounty was just as legal as what work the Rangers did, so why was he holding on to bringing this man in alive? Was it that he didn't want such a monster to feel the cold peace of death without paying for his crimes? Was it an actual desire for Justice, the following of the rule of law? Was it to prove a point, perhaps to himself, that he actually had power to act on the things that offended him? He had felt so powerless having learned at the wrongs his parents had been doing and had vowed to never feel that way again. And yet, here he was. He had no advantage here, no reason to compel this man to see his way, and from what he knew of Mandalorians, words wouldn't win him the day. He nearly retreated into his own mind, his safe place when confronted by his weakness like this, when a light appeared in the nightvision behind the Mandalorian. Four of them, from what he could see also being gangsters. While he knew the Mandalorian could hold his own, at that angle...The odds were too great that he would suffer injury instead.

"Watch out, four behind you!" He didn't hesitate, thinking that if they took out the bounty hunter that he could get his Justice. It wasn't right, it wasn't...honorable, perhaps was the word. Above all else, Kal wanted to follow his heart, to live without regrets, and he would have greatly regretted standing by as the man was shot. His rifle shifting, Kal shot at the newcomers, catching the one lining up a shot on the Mandalorian in the chest. Wait...He thought he had set it to stun...Well, that was something to deal with later. This was him acting in self-defense...right? Even so, was this still right? He realized this was the first time he had killed someone. He'd deal with that later as well.

Arden kept the lizard in his sights, watching him carefully. The man seemed to be having an internal battle...not the greatest time to start something like that. He looked back down to the criminal beneath him. He didn't look like he wanted to try anything.

A flicker behind him caught his attention, but before he could turn a shot zipped past him and collided with a new arrival. The Mandalorian jumped to the side, his jetpack carrying him several meters behind some old machinery. He emerged from his cover and fired several shots at the remaining three. One got peppered with bolts, crashing into some barrels. The rest scattered and took cover before firing at Arden and the Ranger. Arden hid behind a pillar and took a moment to look around. The gangster boss was crawling away, trying to find a way out. He sighed and switched to stun mode to knock the man out. With a grunt the criminal went limp on the floor.

"Cover me!" he ordered the Ranger before switching to flight mode and blasting into the air. He landed on the roof supports and maneuvered to a better spot above the two remaining thugs. Red bolts zipped back and forth to illuminate the warehouse. He waited for the lizard to draw their fire before making his move...
