What is it to be a Jedi?

Grandmaster Luke Skywalker, one of the wisest of our great order, once famously said, "A Jedi only draws his lightsaber as a last resort. If you are forced to draw your lightsaber, you have already forfeited much of your advantage. A Jedi trusts the Force and at first seeks other ways to resolve problems: patience, logic, tolerance, attentive listening, negotiation, persuasion, calming techniques."

To be a Jedi is more than simply pulling forth your blade and striking upon all that moves and writhes beneath the darkness. It is trusting the Force to lead us, to guide us in our protection of Civilization. We do not protect peace, that is a fool's misguided notion. Believing in peace leads to complacency, complacency leads to weakness, and weakness has lead us to death. In our death, we have failed in our charge to protect Civilization as a whole, as this galaxy is plunged into chaos and tyranny. But those times are over, now is the time of the Brotherhood.

To be a Jedi is more than knowing the wisdom of the Force, it is knowing how to utilize that wisdom to rebuild Civilization, to be a bulwark for justice, to be a noose for the Sith. The Sith have always existed, and they always will, but fighting them does not make you a Jedi. What makes you a Jedi is so much more. You have chosen a hard life, but it is a life of
purpose and action. So long the galaxy has forgotten its stalwart protectors, we are far too late to save these people. But we can rebuild!

As said by Mace Windu, "Jedi fight for civilization, because only civilization creates peace. We fight for justice because justice is the fundamental bedrock of civilization: an unjust civilization is built upon sand. It does not long survive a storm." Wake up my brothers, it is time for us to face the hard truth that we have built our Civilization upon sand, it has fallen in the midst of the great storm! But it can be rebuilt, the Brotherhood will be the rock of justice upon which civilization will be rebuilt!

To once more quote Grandmaster Skywalker, "But there are times when a Jedi must fight." We have lain complacent too long, wallowing in our 'peace' and cowering under the thumb of the Imperium. But no more! We will stand and fight, we will burn this galaxy to the ground, and from the ashes of destruction will rise our new Civilization! The New Jedi Order has failed this galaxy, but the Jedi of the Brotherhood will recreate the stars.

So stand for the Light! Stand for the Brotherhood! Fight for Civilization! For this is what it is to be a Jedi!

The Brotherhood was once simply a wild idea, the machinations of a madman who turned himself into half a machine in order to subdue his fear of death. However, after the fall of Coruscant and the complete decimation of the Jedi Order, his machinations were soon seen as genius by those whom he convinced to follow him.

The galaxy was beyond saving, it had discarded Justice in favor of Peace, and Peace allowed the galaxy to be corrupted by the Sith. In the eyes of Commander Asger, the galaxy would need to be destroyed in order for it to be rebuilt in the image of Justice and, in turn, a long lasting civilization. To bring this about, he would see to it that both the Sith and the Jedi order would be destroyed in order to protect Justice. The Brotherhood is the enemy of all Force factions in the galaxy, for they threaten the Justice in which they are sworn to protect.

It was a long, hard road of consolidating resources and training Brotherhood knights, but after ten years, Asger had assembled a group of roughly 100 Knights, Padawans, and Soldiers spread about the galaxy. The Brotherhood will now take their fight to the Sith, the Jedi, and everyone else who stands in their way. They are Judge, Jury, and Executioner for the galaxy, and there is nothing else to it.
  1. The Brotherhood is founded in three core principles they refer to as 'The Pillars of Light,' not to be confused with the Three Pillars of the Jedi.
    • The Pillar of Light, The Brotherhood shall be a shining bulwark for the galaxy, protecting civilization and justice wherever possible, dispensing it as Judge, Jury, and Executioner. They shall not abide Darkness and carry a sworn duty to eradicate it wherever they can, whenever they can.
    • The Pillar of Iron, The Brotherhood shall don whatever they need to properly protect Justice. Should they need armor, they will requisition armor, should they need blasters, they shall acquire them, and should they deem a structure of any kind need removal, whether metaphysical or physical, they shall retrieve the proper ordinance to remove it.
    • The Pillar of Fire, The Brotherhood see the galaxy as corrupt and beyond saving, therefore they shall burn it to the ground by any means necessary. It is only through the decimated ashes of the current tyranny can a new, pure civilization be created.
  • Ranks are described as follows.

    • Commander - The leader of the Brotherhood
    • Knight - Regardless of personal strength, a fully indoctrinated member of the Brotherhood
    • Padawan - Regardless of personal strength, a new addition to the Brotherhood.
    • Soldier - Any non-force sensitive employed by the Brotherhood to carry out Justice.
  1. Commander - Asger

    • 5 Crates of training supplies for Brotherhood members.
    • 5 Crates of Refined Baradium
    • 5 Crates of E-11 Blaster rifles
    • 5 Crates of various lightsaber components(no crystals)
    • Seven suits of SAU8.v1 ’Centurion’ Imperial Stormtrooper armor, stolen from dead soldiers. The armor serves no disguising ability, as the previous owners are listed as deceased or MIA, but it still serves as excellent defense, once the tracking devices have been removed.
    • Each crate is distributed among the five vessels in the Brotherhood fleet, hence the even number of crates of each resource. Nothing is held in one place together.

Definitely sounds interesting. I don't think Satra would fit here, though. Maybe I'll use this as an excuse to test run one of the char's I've been writing up for when the tl resets. Depending on who else you get to join, she could be a Knight or a Padawan.

My unapproved Jedi could join as an Indie. I was going to wait for the timeskip, but perhaps I could jump head first here and give Marcus a try?

Whilst I doubt any of my characters could join this - the faction none the less looks fantastic and very interesting and unique.

I would encourage people, especially new players looking to try something different and develop their RP skills to join.

I really want to see this succeed, it's very reminiscent of a faction I was in back in the day: The Imperial Council of Jedi. Fun as hell doing all the wrong things for all the right reasons.

Woooo. He has no force powers, but he does have a blaster - and a quick draw!

I know we've still got a max of two months, but for a new faction do we need to just wait for the new TL? Just tossing it out there. I may personally wait and start on the backstory of my Dawn of the Republic character over the next X weeks.

I mean, I'm HOLDING OUT FOR A HERO that the admins will take five minutes to actually look the faction over and approve it, but if not and this is the kind of waiting bullshit I'll be dealing with next timeline, then it's safe to say there won't be an official brotherhood faction next timeline.

It'll just be me grabbing whoever wants to call themselves a brother and starting skirmishes. I don't have the patience for this nonsense, ya know?

I am newer to this site and know little of the background comparatively, but I put most of the reasoning here to the new timeline. I stinks, but perhaps it is for the best that you/we plan this for the next TL given the short timeframe. But I love the idea and hope something comes of it regardless!
