When Jago had decided to approach the Jedi as potential allies to the Matukai, he never imagined he'd end up in a hellscape like this. The battle raged overhead as Jago held the hand of a little Twi'lek girl and her mother. He led them to the evacuation ship and motioned for others to follow. While a warrior, he was no soldier and he'd come down just before the attack proper to aid in the evacuation of the people closest to the battlefield.

He watched the ship ascend, covered by the AA guns next to landing platform. It was still blowing his mind that the conflict had come to this point so soon. He'd only really just learned about the Sith threat recently and had no idea they were ready to amass such a force. The wind howled as the ship went into full flight away from the battle, but there were numerous more that still needed to be loaded. From the boarding platform Jago could see the drop ships come in for their "landings". The battle was getting far to close for comfort and Jago looked back at the scared civilians as they shuffled into their escape ships. That was when several explosions and the unmistakable sound of lightsabers reached his ears. He looked to the source and saw the red laser swords batting away blaster fire from the allied forces. The were clearly headed for the guns to take them offline, and leave the civilians and any reinforcements completely exposed. That was not going to happen

Jago stepped forward and shrugged off his poncho, which below he was clad in his blast vest and wore his matukai gauntlets, and began to run and shouted back "Keep boarding no matter what yeah! I'll take these rude boyos alright!" He leaped off the side of the platform and landed on the hard ground in a roll, that he came out of in full sprint. His arms began to work to block incoming blaster fire, the bolts fizzled and dissipated as the made contact with his gauntlets. One Sith trooper that had gotten past the front line turned to take aim but was only met with a fist that cracked into their helmeted skull, the trooper dropped like a ragdoll out of the fight.

At this point Jago headed toward the trenches where he'd seen the glimpse of sabers and the explosions ready to meet these Sith.

It seemed the Imperials didn't appreciate the man going after their engines. A particularly bold pair of interceptors came streaking through the black emptiness of space and fell in on the rear of the attacking blastboat.

He's mine. Cover my wing, one of the pilots said as he flipped a switch on his control panel. The display in front of him lit up green, displaying the enemy ship in front of him as he maneuvered into firing position.

Acquiring lock, five seconds, he radioed the other pilot. A switch on his joystick flipped up as the concussion missiles locked into position, ready to blast the enemy ship from the sky before it could make its next attack run. @Nefieslab

The Lee-Char soared through the air, nearing the massive battle consuming Ryloth. Inside the cockpit Chant held on the controls, viewing the chaos. She began to sweat and gulped down her throat. The pilot had been in combat before but that had been an as a victim of an ambush and she barely survived that encounter without firing a shot.

This is much worse.

Warships of various classes hung over the sky as hundreds of starfighters swarmed over one another in massive dogfight. A Corellian corvette miles away on the left was struck by a salvo of turbolasers and suddenly exploded. The force of the blast caused Chant’s light freighter to shake violently. Ness her droid/copilot let out a sequel in alert.

“Hold on!”

The Mon Calamari exclaimed, refusing to let go of the controls. Moments later the turbulence ceased and the pair watched burning debris fall to the ground below. Breathing in and out from newfound stress Chant fought to remain calm. Panicking will get them both killed.

The astromech spoke in a series of chirps, turning her dome head in Chant’s direction. “Good question Ness. We have no missiles, just lasers cannons and a turret without a gunner.” Chant replied as their light freighter near the sight of the Star Destroyer’s engines.

Subsequently she spotted a blastboat attacking one engine and doing some damage. But whoever it was attracted a pair of Sith interceptors. Recognizing the attack pattern Chant without further hesitation increased thrusters. Increasing thrusters the Lee-Char ascended toward them from below. Once in range Chant fired her cannons in a three round burst toward the inspector's underbellg just as it was about to launch it’s missile on the blastboat.

One thing good thing about having a guy manning the turret...

"We got incoming interceptors!"

... they were always able to see things you couldn't. Even before his instruments started to blare out at him about missiles being locked on, he had chance to react. Pulling on the controls, he swerved in the would-of-been attack run, banking hard across the surface of the enemy's engines and the shields that enveloped them.

Rather than sit still and get shot at by the missiles he rocketed the ship around the engine, using it's curve to keep the missiles from having a clear path. Running down the edge of one he then pulled up hard, essentially zig-zagging between the engines of the ship itself and using them as cover. The missile was dumb tech - it wouldn't be able to handle the turns he had been able to put the ship through and it would likely explode against the shields of the engines by straying too close.

As he shot up, he would spin the gunship around to open fire at the lead interceptor from a forward-facing angle, angling his deflector shields to the front and opening fire with his own lasers. The turret, as well, would open fire and each would fire off a two-round burst before he began for his own concussion missile lock against the second interceptor.

"Smile you son of an Imp."

Talon grinned through his mask of his battle beskar'gam, watching the slicer droids do their work. The two of them had certainly come in handy; it was lucky he'd bought 'em. He couldn't believe how many people had "volunteered"; if you're gonna risk your life for something, might as well get paid for it.

He didn't know if all mandos felt this way, but he could care less who won or lost this specific fight. He didn't want Jedi or Sith close to Mandalore; he didn't want the outer rim coming under the tight fist of either. Nevertheless, the Jedi had (sort-of) left them alone for a while, and who knew where the Sith would target next? So he'd signed up.

Now he was hanging on to the side of the Star Destroyer, nestled inside of the meridian trench that lined the siding. His jetpack was at half fuel capacity, even though it'd only been a minute or so flight; it took a lot more skill, balance, and juice to get two people to this altitude (@Kenico).

His droids were busy getting into the control panel nearby the airlock, customarily in the trenches as was common to Destroyers. The plan was to get in and find the ion-cannon targeting systems, at least the ones on their side. Do some damage, blow them up, whatever; from their they'd decide what to do based on the situation.

The two were aware of the boarding party on the opposite side of the hull, so it should attract most of the defenses within the ship. By the time they were spotted, they'd be long gone...ideally.

Baldr could have cheered as the Sith that had led the charge found cover in enemy trenches. He wasn't far from the guns they needed to get offline. His optimism took a blow, however, as he realized that they were not only not unopposed but that the opposition was possibly as powerful as it could get. A Jedi was making her way slowly but surely towards his comrade. A chill shivered down Baldr's spine.

He'd heard of Jedi, of course, but mostly of the ancient legends of them. He knew that there was some kind of resurgence of them gathering here and there, and he'd heard that they were expected to fight with the Twi'leks of Ryloth against them in this battle. But he hadn't actually considered that he might come face to face with one of them. Stubbornly, he shrugged off the fear that tugged at his heart. Jedi didn't actually utilize the Force at its full power. They had the ability to do so, but for some strange reason refused to.

That could only make them weak. Baldr was young, but he was strong in the Force and he was healthy and confident in his abilities. It would be just like training with other Sith, except he wouldn't have to pull his killing blows. He could do this. He had done this, a thousand times over. Just because every other time had been against friendlies wouldn't make a difference. A Jedi couldn't match his strength.

All of this flitted through young Baldr Sigurd's mind in mere seconds. With renewed confidence, he gestured to gather the soldiers about him for a moment. Quietly, he gave them their instructions. They were to move forward and bypass the trenches that the other Sith was occupying. They were to lay down defensive fire only and reserve their shots as much as possible. They were to get to those anti-aircraft guns at all costs and get the damn things offline to give their boys in the sky a better chance at making it out of this whole.

Baldr withdrew a thermal detonator from his belt and let fly at a group of enemies that probably thought they'd been clever. They'd been sneaking around and behind a troop of Sith forces that were busy trading fire with the front lines of defenders. Baldr's grenade blew them all higgeldy piggeldy about the area and his comrades turned to regard him with surprise evident on their faces. The young Sith took the opportunity to wave them over, which they did under cover of ship debris strewn about the battlefield. After instructing them to follow with the initial group of soldiers that had been on the transport with him, Baldr had to consider his next moves.

It only took a heartbeat for him to make his decision. There was too much distance between him and the other Sith - the Jedi was closing in on him and others were also making a bee line for the trenches that he was taking shelter in. Baldr had no choice but to close the distance and provide support. To do that, he had to stay under their radar. He took a long, deep breath and closed his eyes for a moment. He focused inward on the Force flowing through his body like a living being. He took great care to hold that power down for now and cloak himself with the Force. The effect was that he was nearly invisible, the Force deflecting and moving sight and light away from his body in a way that made it almost impossible to detect him.

Baldr knew he couldn't keep it up forever, so he crouched low and moved quickly across the battlefield choosing a path to the trenches that was sheltered by debris and out of direct line of sight of one front line or the other. This ensured that he would not catch a stray blaster bolt as he made his way to back up his Sith ally.

Dolworth shook his head wondering why in the gods did he decide to take this job? Granted the fee was good, and he was basically doing something to keep both Jedi and Sith away from Mandalore, but nevertheless this was madness. Then again, the Galaxy hasn't exactly been sane these last few months. He gave a quick grunt as he watched the battle unfold beneath them while he, Talon, and the latters two droids sat along the meridian trench of the downed Star Destroyer. Dolworth was providing cover in case any uninvited guests while Talon and his droids were attempting to breach the airlock and gain entrance.

Every so often he'd spot some lightsaber blade in the distance, being swung by either a Sith if it was red or Jedi if it was any other color, as they charged from one end of the battlefield to the other. Dolworth would even spot two blades clash and fight till either they disappeared from his line of sight or one, the other, or both extinguished with their masters. He grimaced a bit, turning back towards Talon to check on his work before returning to provide over watch with his blaster rifle.

"How much longer on that door Tal?" asked Dolworth with a cheery voice, "Cause if it takes another five minutes, im using detonators to breach!" he said with a chuckle, attempting to keep the dire situation as less tense as possible...

As he contined to move from foxhole to foxhole through the trench line, cutting a swath of carnage and death along the way. He could feel the light of the force moving closer. Even though he could not clearly see them or pinpoint their exact approach from his current position, he could feel them enough in the force to know they would be on him soon enough.

By now the Sith marauder had managed to close the distance on the first gun from 40, to 20 meters. "Close enough" said to himself. Plucking a thermal detonator from his belt he focused on the weapon. Then tossed it, just high enough to clear the trench. Then, with the aid of the force, guided the small orb till within the larger dug emplacement of the gun and armed the weapon. What the grenade didn't destroy, the igniting stock piles on nearby ammo for the heavy gun likely would.

Castus smiled from behind his mask. Then jumped back into the open from the trench below. Now once more in the open battlefield, he reach down to his datapad and tapped a few memorized keys, before shrugging of the cloak of his robes. He stood now in the open waiting for the two assumed Jedi to arrive. His saber batting away bolts here and there as he waiting for the other warriors to close the distance.

Jerex just looked in amusement as the jedi (@Mr. Teatime ) talked and talked and didn't stop talking, just deflecting the two bolts that came his way while that happened and thinking "that's cute". Using the sith's own techniques against him, wasn't he? Well, Jerex really didn't understand the purpose of using a tactic that made people emotional against warriors whose fighting style relied on drawing power from emotion, and even so, it was a technique that, without being veeeery personal, usually only worked on the dim-witted and the bitter, and Jerex didn't consider himself either.

"Well, some force sensitive warriors think it's wise to use cover..." Jerex said in response, taking a quick glance at their surroundings, the place which was about to become their dueling grounds, there was not much to be used around, a couple of ventilation shafts in between them, the corpses of the few casualities from this side so far, a door behind him and another one behind Hannibal, the supporting beams Jerex used as cover and a few more, and not much more "...While others like to use blasters" Jerex finished the sentence and used the force on Hannibal's blaster, twisting it and yanking it backwards, trying to get it off his hand, as long as Hannibal held on the blaster or until his raw strength couldn't keep up with the power of the force, Jerex wouldn't let go, unless, of course, he need to do so in order to defend himself, would the jedi do something impressive to keep his blaster or would he give up the blaster? He had two, but this action could easily be repeated, the old legionnaire wasn't the best at using a lightsaber, but the force, the dark side? Well, that was his forte.

We've got incoming. Intercepting, the wingman said as he slammed his control stick down, sending his interceptor down straight toward the incoming attacker. (@Minuteman75) His laser cannons opened fire, forcing the pilot to break off his attack or else risk tanking the laser cannon rounds pouring out at him.

Meanwhile, the man with the missile lock was facing his own issues from the blastboat. This was why he hated turreted vehicles. They were always so annoying to engage.

The pilot's fancy flying managed to keep him from getting a missile shoved up his exhaust pipe as the lead pilot couldn't get his missile locked.

A quiet curse as he threw the ship around the engines as well, watching the enemy boat turn about to a firing position. His own deflectors were still in a standard configuration, but he was banking on better positioning. His own oncoming attack would mean that his missile solution should come in before his opponents. Warning lights flashed wildly as one of the cannon rounds splashed against his deflector shield but his thumb squeezed down on the trigger, spewing out a missile just before he ripped his control to the side with the hopes of evading the missile that he could hear from another siren was acquiring lock.

He turned the sideways corkscrew into a gut-wrenching dive as he sought to get further under the destroyer and in the fire range of its ventral turbolasers, hoping to use them as cover in order to establish better positioning for himself.

The Imperial troopers held their ground. Already making use of strategic locations since before the hull was breached, the troopers managed to funnel a good part of the boarding party in an untimely death. This was why boarding star destroyers usually wasn't such a good idea unless you had roughly a thousand soldiers to waste. Preef wasn't a stranger to senseless killing, but he drew the line at doing it in masse. It also removed the diplomatic options of "negotiating a retreat" and forced the two warring parties to fight each other to the death, for without the Star Destroyer there would be no retreat possible. That was the main reason he signed up to be attached to one of the anti-boarding regiments, thinking it to be safest place to sit it out and cash in afterwards.

Needless to say Preef blasted his share of marines, keeping an eye out for the lightsaber-wielding guys as the latter continued to advance towards their fortified position. "Focus fire on the one with the lightsaber!" the rodian shouted and heard it echo behind him by the grossly overpaid Major. The jedi (@Phoenix) would have to deal with a barrage of bolts, forcing him to stop his advance and necessitating cover.

They were being funneled by the forces now moving into position to intercept the attackers. He heard the shout to focus fire on him and noticed the increasing number of shots coming toward him that he deflected, forcing him into cover at the side of the hallway along the blast door housing as the rounds slapped against the cover.

The transition to firing at him, freed up one of the marines to throw a smoke grenade down the hall, obscuring further attack.

For Talak's part, he took the opportunity to carve his saber through the wall and into the adjacent room, creating an opening out of the hallway.

Of course, while this wasn't exactly the warzone the other hall was, it wasn't without its own people. His saber came slashing down on one of the troopers and sent another flying backwards across the hall, hard enough to keep him off his feet.

If he were fortunate, perhaps he could create an opening for his soldiers. Or else, he would at least manage to cut through the enemy forces and thin the herd. @Ecclessey

Lorcan grinned.

Ship combat might not be everything he loved about combat but there was something still so incredibly fun about the whole thing. Like a giant game of cat and mouse except everyone thought that they were the cat until it was revealed that no one was actually the cat at all and they were all mice.

Until someone brought in a bigger gun of course.

He started spinning the ship as it approached the enemy ship, knowing the fighter would get their missile off before he got his off. Still, he spun faster and faster even as he maintained his focus on them, following them down into the dive as soon as they starting making it.

His gunboat hurtled after them at speed, down toward the bottom of the ship. Behind him the missile they had managed to launch followed, dumb tracking but smart enough to follow a dive. Thankfully for Lorcan however, it was not quite smart enough to know which part of the ship to be aiming for.

The co-pilot took control of the shields, applying them to the sides of the ship as the missile closed the gap and exploded to one side of the ship, interacting with the shield itself rather than the armour to explode. The ship rattled and Lorcan ignored it as they straightened out, loosing his own missile along with another couple of blasts from his cannons, the turret firing away as well.

"Shields down by thirty percent! We got some light damage to our escape pod!"

Lorcan actually laughed at that.

"Good thing escaping was never an option!"

The interceptor gunned the engines hard, committing to the dive. It was the wrong move. The missile found its mark (sort of) and the ship managed to reach the turbolaser zone, but the cannon fire behind ripped into his shields. A combination of turret and front laser fire tore through the shields and then the armor plating, ripping the fighter to pieces in a blast as the fuel lines caught flame and erupted.

While the pilot was dead, the blastboat wasn't out of danger yet. Not getting as much action on the ventral side of the ship, several of the turbolaser crews quickly started shouting out the new target as massive Taim&Bak heavy turbolasers began to open up. They weren't the most accurate weapons, but there were enough of them and they could do very bad things to a small ship if it stayed put long. @Nefieslab

Before Chant can even the second inceptor dive toward her. “Oh snap!” She exclaimed as the hostile fighter opened up a volley at the Lee Char. Immediately she took evasive action to the right side. The light freighter avoided sustaining a volley but two laser bolts still struck the side.

The shields held but the vessel shook violently and an small siren off. Holding down the controls, Chant spun around for another pass behind the engines. “Ness get on the turret! We're going to need it.”

Ness acknowledged and rolled out from the cockpit as Chant re-entered the dogfight. If the interceptor still after at them he will be keep on their tail to blast their ship with another volley or maneuver to get a missile lock on. That was what Chant would do if she was that starfighter pilot. What a day to fly. She thought while the massive battle across the sky and ground raged on.

With the two ships heading straight toward one another in a horribly dangerous game of chicken, they both tore past one another through the vacuum of space. They had exchanged fire, but nothing that was enough to break either of them.

The wingman pulled a stick on his engines, cutting them completely and spinning the ship. His forward moment continued without gravity or air resistance, and he turned his cannons back to fire.

Fortunately, his opponent hadn't fired on him yet, and he took advantage of that. He slammed his engines into drive again, shooting off directly at the opponent's ship again. Hopefully he would be able to do this before his opponent managed to about-face.

The maneuver had such a fast alteration in momentum that the wingman nearly blacked out from the pressure, but years of training kept him conscious as he shot directly back toward the enemy fighter for another game of chicken if the ship was turned around in time. @Minuteman75

The captain beside her barked orders and firing positions, they were attempting to suppress the Sith troops until they could close in and break the line, and they were doing the job admirably. Moving quickly they kept themselves difficult to pin down, and Ilukai was able to shield a great deal of the stray blaster bolts and grenades that whipped toward them, even tossing some back and bursting the cover the Sith soldiers were using to protect themselves, sending them scattering.

But it wasn't all she saw.

Across the field she spotted another (@Topher Ridge), a Nautolan by the looks, slapping blaster bolts away with their arms as they tried to hold the line for evacuation ships. The exact ships that needed the AA guns for cover. They were a Force user, they had to be, though not like one Ilukai had ever encountered. If they made it through this, and she was truly coming to the realisation that that really was an if, she'd have to meet them, find out what it was they knew. But for now, she was happy to have an ally at all.

That meant then, when she watched what must have been a Sith (@Taz) detonate one of the AA guns and leap up from the trenches, she followed immediately,

"Captain, the Sith troopers, cut them off from the AA guns!" she called to him, gesturing at the soldiers pushing forward around the trench. Guns swiveled in seconds, the two ground forces engaging in moments with shouts and blows trading as they fought and died on Ryloths surface.

Ilukai knew what she had to do, and that was to engage the Sith. She'd only encountered one once before, and their power with the Force had been mighty, but she would not abandon these people to whatever fate would befall them if she didn't engage.

And so, centering herself, Ilukai dashed toward the Sith (@Taz), making a running strike across his abdomen as she held the Force in her empty hand. There was no going back now.

She prayed that the other Force user would aid her, or at least keep other threats she was as of yet unaware of (@RedneckLoves) at bay.

From the hull of the massive star destroyer, below the raised command decks, a pair of red eyes watched the battle patiently as it progressed. Their services had been hired out by the sith empire, but thus far it seemed that the sith were loath to put them to use. They had been ordered to stay put until called for, and that's what they had done until this point. Laid low. To be honest, the owner of these eyes was no lover of the sith. These self-absorbed beings had enslaved his kind off and on for a millennia. But honestly, this so-called "Free" worlds alliance had been little better. His kind were still used as slave labor and upon the back of slaves this organization of "Free peoples" had begun to grow powerful and wealthy, like every ruling faction before them. Neither side in this fight even recognized his kind as sentient beings. So, to be honest, he rather enjoyed watching them all kill each other en mass. Let the Organics perish by their own designs until only his kind remained.

Suddenly, the comm link sparked to life and some sith officer began barking orders. An annoying little reminder that he had agreed to do this job for the advancement of his organization and his kind as a whole. He acknowledged the contact and then cut off the comms channel. If these foolish little "force wielders" as they were called thought that they were going to micro-manage him on this battlefield, they were mistaken. Shaking the dust off of his form, he stood and stepped out into the light. Four metallic legs clicked loudly against the durasteel of the destroyer's hull. Or rather, they would have if they weren't in the soundless void of space. The long, curving crescents arched up to a main fuselage and a raised head on a stalk where the red eyes took in the view around them. Well, not so much eyes as photoreceptors.

Yes, Charyeok was a Variable Geometry Self-Propelled Battle Droid. A veteran of the now almost-ancient Clone Wars. Now once again, he found himself in the midst of a massive war amongst the stars, and it felt... Like home. If a droid could take a deep breath of fresh air and sigh in satisfaction, that's exactly what Charyeok would have been doing at this moment (also if there had been any air) as he surveyed the battle raging around the destroyer. "Chai doi! Go suu yo!" Charyeok called out on his local net, his harsh metallic voice sounding like sheet metal rubbing against itself, as he turned his head a complete 180 to look back behind himself. From the shadows of the command deck, more red eyes seemed to appear out of the darkness. More vulture droids began walking out behind Charyeok. Twenty-five in total. Two full squadrons plus himself. They had been hired as reserve forces by the sith from the Droid Gotra, and now it seemed the sith were finally ready to make use of them. "Dai chu dai!" With his command, the 25 vultures kicked off from the destroyer's hull and transformed into the fighter configuration, launching forward with impressive acceleration as they fired their thrusters.
windyskinnyeider

giphy.gif

Charyeok heard one of his subordinates in his head inquiring if they were going to engage the enemy small-craft attempting to attack the engines at the stern of the destroyer. Charyeok sent back a negative. Let those organics back there enjoy killing each other for a bit longer. The Vultures would be starting with the primary threat to the ship they had been hired to defend. Charyeok launched into a rapid roll to the side, his flight pattern curling around to the side of the destroyer as he raced down it's length towards the bow of the ship. It had been so long since he had put himself through his paces. He hoped this battle would provide him with some entertainment.

Talon waited until the droids flew back out; apparently, nobody was in the corridor. Whatever was happening on the other side of the ship, it was absorbing a lot of attention. He couldn't believe how easy this was when he stepped into the Destroyer followed by his Vod; both WESTAR's in his hands, a Bilari chain-whip across his back. His concussion grenades lined his belt as he peered around the corner, listening for footsteps.

He also checked to make sure they weren't in a suspiciously spacious room; such starships were known for emitting flames in certain rooms as a defense mechanism. Positive the immediate vicinity was safe, Talon stayed tight against the wall, slipping cautiously in the direction of where the ion targeting system should be located.

Destroyers were huge; just because most forces were located in one spot didn't mean they wouldn't run into any hostiles. They had to be careful and try to avoid getting spotted. Speaking of which-- "Cameras," he whispered, quickly firing an annoyingly noisy blaster shot and obliterating the device. It'd buy them some time before they were swarmed by what remaining troops were guarding that side.

Escape was never an option for him and his crew and it wasn't for the interceptor he ran down either. Gunning it down, he grinned. Oh he was scaring his co-pilot at this point but he didn't much care - success on the battlefield was measured in how many corpses you made of the enemy before they were either all corpses or they all ran away with their tails between their legs.

Lorcan preferred the ending when the enemy were all corpses.

"Lorcan we got turbolasers moving for firing solutions on us!"

The first thing that came to mind?

"So?"

Turbolasers were slow to aim, slow to fire and not able to target anything smaller than a large building with any degree of real accuracy. Sure, being hit would probably be the end of them but what did it matter when to be hit he'd have to basically sit still... and they'd probably still miss nine times out of ten.

Of course with the sheer number of turbolasers the capital ship had, it would be like a wall of fire. Like trying to hit a fly with a shotgun blast - most would miss but it only took one to get lucky. So he did what most pilots would do; he kept moving in evasive patterns, never getting predictable as he pulled his ship tight to the capital ship's underside, away from the turbolasers.

"Be advised, be advised, we have a bombing run inbound on the enemy capital ship targetting the external deflector shield generator domes. Requesting anti-fighter support."

That'll do it.

"Gunship on route to assist."

Bringing the gunship around at speed, he spotted the convoy of MG-100 StarFortress bombers as they began to make their attack run. There were ten of them in total, enough to break through the shields and shatter the generator he would bet. He brought his gunship up to help screen their defense.
