The Battle of Handooine

The unthinkable happened. The crowning governmental jewel of the Sith Brotherhood, the Moff Council, had been decimated. Betrayed by one of their own, Malak Arphas. Few Moffs remained, many thanking absence from the ill-fated. The emperor was mortally wounded, though Darth Andredd had heard reports he would survive. However, the Sith had no intention of letting Arphas match that fate. A death sentence had been decreed on Arphas.

Boz Pity and several other worlds south of the Saleucami Protectorate, forming the Boz Pity Protectorate, temporarily under the command of Moff Andredd. The Ash Worlds, primarily Handooine, have resisted assimilation so far. However, trade between Anzat and Saleucami has become increasingly taxing, due to foreign aid by the Republic and reportedly Jedi. In order to solve the problem once and for all, Moff Malak Arpha was tasked with subjugating Handooine. Over the course of a month, Moff Arpha had transferred much of his powerbase to Handooine, solidifying control of the planet, delaying in annexing it to the empire. With Malak Arpha's betrayal, it has become apparent Malak had no intention of bringing Handooine under the empire's reign. Seeking revenge for the death of the Grand Moff and most of the Moff Council, the empire has chosen to hunt Malak and his powerbase with extreme prejudice. However, intelligence gathered by SIN indicates Malak Arpha fled to Handooine after the bombing of the Moff Council. In order to target Handooine without spooking Malak, the empire is unable to swarm Handooine directly with overwhelming force. As such, acting Grand Moff Andredd has a plan to weave a way to the heart of Malak Arpha's powerbase.

With the assistance of Moff Vrist, Grand Moff Andredd sought to strike Handooine from Altratonne. Jabiim was captured by Lady Cailleach and Caduceus in order to learn when the next solar flare at Altratonne would occur. Its data was used to time the successful invasion of Altratonne, concreting a launching point for the assault on Handooine. As Grand Moff Andredd and Moff Vrist took a single War Leviathan each to subjugate Taskeed and Kile respectively, the main operation group attacked Handooine, catching the traitors off-guard, expecting any attack to come from Sy Myrth or Jabiim, ignorant to the capture of Jabiim and Altratonne.

Vallana Krass, the daughter of the late Aren Krass, leads Arphas' mercenaries in fighting back as pandemonium litters the planet, the populace fleeing to shelters. Stationed at the city Jelweck's garrison, she has demonstrated her Corellian prowess in lead the defense of Handooine. Lacking much for larger ships, she has been coordinating starfighters into hounding the imperial armada, proving to be stronger than anticipation. In order to bring the battle to an end sooner and not risk Malak Arphas escaping, Commander Tallay led his squadron of Ziost Hunters to target the hangar doors, to trap the starfighters inside and prevent more from getting off the ground. During his run, his squadron struck two hanger doors. Krass' ships were proving their skills, as by the time Tallay neared the third and final hanger, much of Tallay's squadron had been decimated. Avoiding fire for a while, finally his Ziost Hunter was hit and he was grounded, landing near another Ziost Hunter crash.

Disoriented briefly, Tallay regained his composure and popped the hatch out. Grabbing a missile, Tallay began to walk toward the hanger; the urgency of the mission led to Tallay not checking the other Ziost Hunter to see if the occupant was okay. He had a mission to complete. Armed with his usual gear and a thick-plated missile, Tallay trekked to his destination. However, unbeknownst to him and the entire strike force, Handooine had obtained some foreign aid, foreign aid that present in the grounds of the Jelweck Garrison.

'Fierfek, that last hit killed the main power coupling. Repulsorlifts aren't going to last much longer....gotta find a place to set her down....'

Wrestling with the controls of the crippled craft, the Zabrak managed to point the nose along a relatively clear street and brought the fighter in for a landing. Only a couple meters above the ground, the ship lost power completely and smashed violently into the duracrete street. Holding on for dear life as the small craft skidded to a stop, Vaxus popped the hatch and jumped clear of the ship as soon as he was able. Triggering his comms, he informed command of the situation, then got to work prying one of the missiles from it's storage bay. If he couldn't launch the blasted thing into the hangar, maybe he could hand deliver it.

After a few minutes of work, he got the missile out of the launcher, and removed the engine module and guidance fins, leaving him holding the roughly cone shaped warhead and detonator of the missile. Slinging it up on one shoulder, he began jogging down the street, his Sunspear pistol in his left hand, ready to be used at a moment's notice.

A couple blocks down the road, and one near miss of a drop later, and Vaxus realized jogging with a warhead on your shoulder wasn't the best idea. Slowing to a brisk walk, he kept on moving towards the third and final hangar, set on completing his mission. In the distance he could hear blastfire and the shriek of starfighter engines, so he took comfort in the fact that the battle was still ongoing. Nevermind that he couldn't see the battle or if either side was gaining an upper hand yet, it was enough to know it was still going on. Continuing on, he rounded a bend and spotted the very top of his target in the distance, peeking out from over some buildings. Smiling beneath his helmet, Vaxus forged ahead, reassured by the sight of the distant hangar.

Suddenly, a flash of moment and a glint of metal appeared in the corner of his vision. Startled, and expecting a bolt of energy to streak out and blast him to bits at any second, Vaxus snapped off several hurried shots from his pistol at the source. With a panicked hiss and yowl, a stray cat bolted from the shadows and took off down the street, it's tail faintly smoking from a near miss. Lowering the pistol with a muttered curse, Vaxus resumed his journey. 'Oh yeah, Vax, fekking brilliant idea carrying the warhead in the open down the street during a battle. It's not like one well placed rifle shot could cause you to get vaporized or anything, noooo. Just fine and dandy!' Continuing to grumble to himself, the Commander glanced around and noted the numerous speeders parked along the street. 'Hmm, hot-wiring some transport might be a good idea...'

Walking over to a sturdy looking cargo speeder, Vax set the warhead down in the cargo bed, strapped it down, then walked to the front. Blasting apart the driver-side window, Vaxus opened the door and climbed in. A few minutes of rearranging the wires under the dash later, and the speeder roared to life.

'Time for the real fun to begin...'
