BIOGRAPHY
Corran Velt was born to relative middle-class parents on the planet Commenor in the Colonies. His father was an independent bulk hauler by trade, with his wife running the house while her spouse was away for weeks at a time. Bulk hauling by nature is not a lucrative business in and of itself and Corran’s father ended up working for the black market to make ends meet. Weeks or even months between the Rim and the Core, especially without a central Galactic government, made some offers too enticing to ignore. All it took was one bad run to go south for black market hand to switch from giving to brutal. Unfortunately for Corran’s father, bulk haulers’ are a dime a dozen, easily replaced, and easy to disappear. One rushed trip to the Mid Rim was the last Corran saw of his father. Flight logs returned by local authorities on the planet Mon Gazza said the bulk freighter had a navigation malfunction and jumped into the nearby star. With no remains, the funeral was short. By now in his teenage years, Velt stumbled across a data-ledger hidden among his deceased parent’s things as they were being gone-through. In simple code, Corran discovered that his father’s transport business had a criminal side and the last record was to pick up illicit cargo in the Rim. Other parts of the mystery began falling into place: The vague nature of his father’s business, the fury of losing cargo to “bad timing”, and the eventual panicked departure to Mon Gazza.

In anger and frustration only held by teenagers, Corran decided that his father had been murdered by some criminal operation and sought out revenge. Taking a stash of credits secreted away by his dead parent hidden with the ledger, Velt bought passage to the only place he could find answers and vengeance: Mon Gazza. What Corran found there was even worse: nothing. No trail of gangster killers, no sinister cabal, only the last flight record of the bulk hauler leaving port. For weeks more, Corran searched the urban centers running into all kinds of grey market merchants, spice runners, and pickpockets. His search was fruitless until he was accosted by a group of thugs for snooping around. His body and his ego sufficiently bruised, Corran returned to Commenor and his worried mother. Having grown worried sick for weeks after her remaining son ran away to a distant world, Jersan Velt used the few remaining connections in the trade business leftover from her dead husband to get Corran assigned to a freighter and one with a strict captain at that. While aboard, Corran had his youthful rowdiness forced out of him through strict regimen and constant work. He learned the ways of the merchant life on the hyperlanes, the mechanical knowhow of transport ships and even learned how to fly one, though he was no prodigy. Even over the years, the haunting death of his father Ryden still tugged at him.

So he quit his job. It was time to go to work. Saying goodbye to his disciplinarian crew, the hot-shot-turned-strait-laced made his way to Coruscant aboard a cheap ship he saved up for over the years. He signed up with the Sector Rangers. Corran may never know what happened to his father, but enlisting with the Rangers might give solace to someone like him, the feeling of a crime without justice and wishing someone could help.

PERSONALITY
Ever since leaving the strict crew of a merchantman, Corran has been a stickler for the rules. Guidelines and rules are in place to make people stay safe or things run like they are supposed to. Velt believes bending the rules invites greater sacrifices to ones principles and values, especially over time. How can one represent the law and good order and not be held to the same standard?

While straitlaced in his attire, Corran still has a bit of his playful youth in him when things don't need to be serious. His hair and face come across as more roguish than professional, but that often hides his true dedication to discipline or helps him blend in among rougher crowds at grimy spaceports or Rim frontier towns. He acts himself more among working-class and middle-class folks yet adheres stringently to hierarchy, even when one doesn't need to be so formal. Velt's charisma would be described as acceptable. He's more comfortable talking in strict professional terms or the rough terminology of spacers, but distinction and finesse elude him.

TALENTS

Combat: Corran has little in the way of formal training beyond what he learned aboard freighters or the rudimentary courses provided by the Sector Rangers. He's a middling shooter and his close combat style is a last resort.

Freight Pilot: Over years of working aboard haulers from small to medium size, Velt learned how to pilot a transport. It's nothing fancy, but he understands what it takes to make a big ship take off, turn, and land. He's never experienced a dogfight and and knows very little on piloting fighter craft.

Trader-By-Trade: The freight business, from Core to Rim, teaches one universal truth: everyone has a price. Corran knows that everyone is willing to barter if the price is high enough and that price isn't always credits. He makes a natural negotiator when it comes to business and especially when it comes to favors.

Mission Pack: Guild Wars
In the New Territories, beyond the Northern Dependencies region of the galaxy, lay gems of civilization long untouched by the galaxy at large. While worlds such at Mygeeto, Munnilist, and Entralla had grown into hubs of civilization, many of the outlying systems of these regions remain ignored the the powers of the galaxy. So far to the galactic north and isolated, not even the Hutts have extended their fingers into any influential power base. A vast asteroid field, littered with resources of all types and riches has been discovered in an unpatrolled and politically unclaimed region of space. No local planetary government, the New Republic, or even the FWA lay claim to this space and its untold bounty.

It is in this vacuum that private interest rivalries have flared up into open hostilities. Shipping guilds, resource extraction companies, independent miners, and pirates are now in a chaotic clash over mineral rights, credits, trade lane access, and petty frontier vengeance. The lawyers have failed and politicians are too distracted. Only a single Free Port space station, recently towed into the region to offer supplies, repairs, and services to all comers, has been granted neutrality as hallowed ground between the countless factions in play.

After months of tension, skirmishes, and lost cargo, the Sector Rangers have been requested to act as a third-party security force to keep the corporate militias apart and help negotiate a lasting, and profitable, peace. Should they be successful, many of the private interests would be willing to hand over their scrounged-up weaponry and ships to the Sector Rangers as part of a general disarmament. Maintaining unneeded warships is expensive anyway. In a truly lawless place, only the Sector Rangers can extend the law like no else can

DESCRIPTION
The Sphyrna-class corvette, also known as the Hammerhead corvette, was a ship created by joint-operation between Rendili StarDrive and Corellian Engineering Corporation. Inspired by a Rendili Hyperworks design dating back centuries, the Sphyrna-class is actually a relatively modern design, having begun manufacture during the Imperial Era. Contrary to its name, the corvette is actually fitted out as a bulk transport of goods and individuals in safety, comfort, and without the need for escort ships. It had a cylinder-shaped hull that contains a number of large modular cargo holds, external docking points for cargo containers, and an external cargo lift. The flight deck, crew berths, and passenger staterooms are located in the angular, vertical bow, which gave the ship its notable physical profile and name.

The ship's internal systems were easy to maintain and upgrade, and were backed by numerous redundant systems. Due to this and their strong deflector shields, Hammerheads were well-suited for space travel, and were capable of surviving accidental collisions with relatively minor damage. Based on this record of performance, the ship was noted to be a rugged and sturdy design for use in multiple roles. The redundancies also made the small frame of the corvette very customizable. All these features drew the attention of the Alliance to Restore the Republic. Sphyrna-class corvettes were often found up-gunned, up-armored, additional engines jury-rigged to their frames to meet the ever-evolving needs of the Rebel Alliance. Gunboat, forward cruiser, troop transport; the Hammerheads handled all those roles successfully with the right refit. With the right crew and care, one could even ram a disabled Imperial Star Destroyer and move it in battle.

After the Galactic Civil War, the Sphyrna-class transitioned back into peacetime and civilian use easily. Some smaller planetary defense forces and security forces kept them in continued use. Due to the ship's easily upgradeable systems and tough hulls, smugglers and pirates acquired Hammerheads and highly modified them with more powerful armament and better cargo-handling systems. These venerable ships even participated in the Battle of Exogol as part of the Citizens' Fleet.

While an older design, Sphyrna-class corvettes are still plentiful in the galaxy and common in use in various roles, from private shipping to military sectors. Original parts are still being manufactured and due to the customizable nature of the Hammerhead, many off-brand parts and equipment are functional and accessible.

LEGALITY
Restricted. Sphyrna-class corvettes are classified as capital ships under Galactic law, and possess heavy weapons. As such, civilian owners will require extra licensing to operate one legally, and will receive increased scrutiny by authorities.

INTENT
To create a smaller corvette that can also function as a larger armed freighter for private company factions, police units, and small mercenary groups. Also to bring a ship from Star Wars Canon into our site's fanon.

RESTRICTIONS
Sphyrna-class corvettes are large capital ships with heavy weapons, and capital ships cannot be owned or operated by individual characters. A faction plot on behalf of an approved faction would be required to obtain and crew a ship of this size.

Starfall

DESCRIPTION & LAYOUT

On an nearly uncharted world in the Outer Rim lies a mountain range in the northern hemisphere. This mountain range holds a caldera formed by a meteor impact millennia ago. The meteor had crashed through literal mountain tops, creating jagged new ones, in a rocky circle that blocked all land travel. Only the evidence of such an event is a noticeable crooked "V" shape that appears unnatural in the circular mountain wall where the space-borne disaster crashed through and the deep mountain lake. Where an impact crater once burned, snow melt and seasonal rains filled a large crystal lake with blue crystalline waters. The lake itself is surrounded by a dark but fine sand, intermixed with loose stones, that form a circular beach around the asteroid-made-crater.

Beyond the lake's shore, the ground is an open plain of green that leads to deciduous and alpine trees intermixing forest. The forest itself contains only birds that can make the flight up and past the caldera's towering mountain heights and similarly also denies a noticeable amount of insects or reptiles. Starfall's montane forest grows thicker the further one ventures from the meteor lake. The trees stretch all the way to the base of the mountain walls of the caldera and up the stone face until the granite and snow become too treacherous for plant life. Streams have naturally formed due to the progression of water to the lowest point, flowing into the crater lake itself. Here and there, ponds can be found among the trees leading to and from the lake, but rarely appear as one approaches the mountain wall. This very wall of rock and stone make the location nigh unassailable by ground and difficult to strike from the air. Some have even posited that it interferes with technical navigation systems, though this remains unproven.

Surprisingly for the altitude, the soil beyond the shoreline is fertile for crops or plants that can survive the climate. This is made possible by the impact creating a fine, nutrient-rich soil mixture that is protected from ground-based wildlife and other hazards. While not large enough to sustain commercial agriculture, smaller gardens or crop-shares would be possible.

When all is said, Starfall remains untouched by civilization, the grounds and waters remain pristine and idyllic.

HISTORY
The caldera known as Starfall remained undiscovered and unsettled for millions of years. The planet upon which it formed lay in the Outer Rim territories, only sparsely inhabited and not claimed by any governmental jurisdiction. It is not entirely certain if any other sentient being in the galaxy knew of the crater lake location before the arrival of Ilana Morata and Corran Velt. The pair were shot down by an unknown spacecraft sometime around 130 ABY. Doctor Morata was able to steer her damaged Quad Five courier between the jagged peaks and splashdown near the beach of the impact lake. Surviving the crash intact, the duo evacuated the ship and set up a rudimentary survival camp on the other side of the lake in a tree clearing near a pond. Here, they intended to wait out their attacker and mend their wounds.

An unknown amount of time passed as Ilana and Corran recovered from their injuries. Once fully rested, the two investigated their downed craft and discovered it undisturbed since the initial attack. Without further incident, Doctor Morata's droid was set to repairing the ship and activating an SOS signal for rescue. Over several days, the two stranded people repaired the engines, outer hull, and made the ship flyable. With some careful surveying work and the administrative talents of Corran Velt, they were able to officially mark off Starfall and its environs as claimed territory under the Settler Rights and Colony Charter laws of the New Republic and Free Worlds Alliance. The world, though, sits far outside both those governments tangible jurisdiction so the primary defense of the planet is its secrecy and the skills of Doctor Ilana Morata and Ranger Corran Velt.

INTENT
To site canonize a location for future roleplay opportunities.

Corran Velt's Sentinel Armor

After facing down ravenous predators, brutal pirates, and Sith in the funeral pyre of Sector Ranger Headquarters, it became quite clear that a blast vest and trusty blaster wouldn't be enough in the long run. Bladed weapons, powerful blasters, and force-powers meant that further equipment was needed to augment the modern ranger.

Using the winnings acquired from an undercover mission, the personal armor was crafted using the best accessible materials the Core Worlds could offer at immense expense, making it impractical for mass production without government investment or personal wealth. Key sections of defense utilize durasteel components while duraplast is utilized in joint locations and the helmet to reduce weight for the wearer. The helmet provides complete protection from falling debris and slices from thrown bladed weapons - the most common head injuries Corran suffered in the basement of the burning Ranger HQ. The helmet itself is the most advanced part of the armor. It contains communications equipment along with a voice scrambler to maintain secrecy between officers. A rebreather allows the wearer to maintain some survivability in space, underwater, or other areas where breathing the outside air could be hazardous for a limited time. The transparisteel viewports come with an advanced HUD for low-light environments or tracking sentients with thermal imaging.

The central body armor that covers the back and torso is a dark durasteel that is segmented to allow movement and to be replaced if damaged. Durasteel makes up the pauldrons as well to protect the shoulders with duraplast bicep guards. The most expensive component of the Sentinal armor are the Phrik-alloy gauntlets that protect the forearms. The forearm guards are capable of withstanding a single determined blow from a lightsaber. A second will break the armor and slice into the flesh of the user. On the left gauntlet is a repuslor unit, meant to deflect melee opponents who manage to close the gap between a blaster-armed Sector Ranger.

Ultimately the Sentinel armor set is a personal prototype project by Lt. Corran Velt, who hopes to find a way to mass-produce such armor for the mainstay officers of the Sector Rangers.

LEGALITY

The armor is legal on all worlds. Wearing the helmet on more civilized worlds or areas is more likely to draw attention by authorities or concerned denizens.

INTENT

To provide @Corran Velt with customized armor after learning harsh lessons at the fall of Sector Ranger HQ.

Type and Coverage

Type: Medium

Coverage: (Coverage regions for Light armor is 1-3 regions, Medium is 4-5, Heavy is 6-7)

  • Head: A full coverage duraplast helmet with transparisteel viewports
  • Torso: Segmented durasteel armor covering most of the torso
  • Back: Segmented durasteel armor covering most of the back
  • Upper Arms: Durasteel pauldrons and duraplast bicep guards
  • Lower Arms: Phrik-alloy wrist-guards that cover the forearms

Functions

Function 1: Voice Scrambler

  • For the unusually paranoid, this helmet function can scramble a person's voice to unintelligible garbage, while allowing commlink conversations to continue as normal. Alternatively, it can be used to "digitize" a voice into a deep bass tone.
  • Force User Compatible?: Yes
Function 2: Vision Modes

  • This Allows a Helmet HUD to cycle to low-light OR thermal vision modes.
  • Force User Compatible?: Yes
Function 3: Rebreather

  • Rebreathers allow for a person to survive underwater or in space for brief amounts of time by scrubbing CO2 from their exhaled breath. Generally this lasts for 3-4 posts, but heavy exertion can shorten that time.
  • Force User Compatible?: Yes
Function 4: Repulsor (Left arm)

  • Originally designed to counter combat with force sensitives, this tool is able to project a strong repulsor field replicating a Force push. It projects up 10 meters and its limited power cell only allows for 3 uses before it needed changing. The repulsor has significant recoil and the wielder must carefully brace themselves before use- both to ensure accuracy and to prevent the user from being knocked over themselves or having their arm torn from its socket.
  • Force User Compatible?: No

Mission Pack: Good Intentions

In a dramatic Senate meeting of the Free Worlds Alliance, Senator Soygun York of Kattada was arrested by Sector Ranger Lieutenant Corran Velt on the order of Prime Minister Naeva Rue herself. The Senator had been accused of leaking information from a closed hearing of politicians along with corruption, bribery, and graft. A broad investigation has been opened to get to the bottom of these claims, procure evidence should any be found, and bring the truth to light. Avoiding political entanglements and the subtle brush of vice will be harder than ever in this house of cards.

Location: Coruscant and Kattada

Faction Rewards: The Sector Rangers can earn some good-will, or at least political favor, from certain groups in the Free Worlds Alliance and the powerful politicians that operate the government.

Individual Rewards:
There is something to be said about rubbing shoulders with politicians, the rich, and the famous. Making the right introductions can go a long way with helping your career or maybe helping others down the road.

OOC Info: All threads in this pack are Self-DM and are encouraged to use dice if you want some randomness to your encounters. This is a pack for Sector Rangers to really cut into smoke-filled backrooms and political games. If you like Noire-style investigations, this is the place. Most importantly, these threads are for story and fun!

Threads:

Greased Palms

Soygun York comes from a political dynasty from the world of Kattada. His father, Jorgan York, was a Senator of the world in the Free Worlds Alliance as well. Local authorities have been investigating Jorgan York for sometime and publicly enough for the former Senator to not seek reelection. The Sector Rangers are to head to Kattada and discover if there is any connection between the corruption cases and Soygun York. The apple may not fall far from the tree on a paradise world that is anything but.

The Ghost Leak

A leak of the Free Worlds Alliance Senate meeting on reforming the alliance in the face of growing galactic uncertainty led to public outcry and diplomatic embarrassments. The meeting was entirely confidential and any information finding its way to the public is a crime. The Sector Rangers have been tasked with investigating Senator York's office and staff for suspicion of being the source of the leak that damaged public goodwill. Find evidence or the culprit and bring them to justice.
