DESCRIPTION​

The name "Technical" is a term given to a common classification of light combat vehicle, often improvised as a means of providing highly mobile firepower. The vehicle usually consists of a landspeeder - often a passenger or light cargo model - which has been equipped with a mounted blaster cannon. While not typically armored or shielded - indeed, Technicals tend to be as bare-bones as possible - their mobility and firepower make them a potent force when not opposed by tanks or anti-vehicle weapons. As such, they are not typically a front-line vehicle in most larger conflicts, although they are common enough in the brush-fire wars of the Outer Rim. In any setting they are useful for scouting and anti-personnel work.

The name "Technical" was originally given to such vehicles by members of the Aargau Medical Observer Corps, who often travel to remote worlds where the authorities are not what they could be. They are sometimes required to hire local mercenaries for protection, who often make use of improvised combat vehicles. The Corps took to writing off the money used to hire these mercenaries as "technical expenses," hence the name.

Technicals come in all shapes and sizes, but most commonly seat 4, including the driver, a spotter/commander, an operators for the ubiquitous blaster cannon and 1 other passenger. Up to 60 kilograms of cargo can usually be carried. Top speed is usually around 230 kph, and maximum altitude is about 1 meter. Of note, a Technical's blaster cannon is not typically easy to de-mount, especially when driving and/or during a firefight, and so it is usually left in place.

LEGALITY​

Restricted. The creation and use of improvised combat vehicles is against the law on most worlds. The beings who operate such vehicles tend not to care.
