UPDATE: The tech boards are now open for business. Please make sure you are using the updated templates when submitting new tech, and review the changes to the rules.

The "Advanced" thread prefix will soon be renamed "Restricted". Read through some of the tech we marked Advanced/Restricted to get a feel for what some limitations might be. If you have a pending submission or have already created generitech reskins, I recommend reviewing your work to make sure it conforms to the changes we've made.

Feel free to ask questions in this thread or on the Discord Tech channel. If you notice any mistakes or inconsistencies in either the rules or in existing tech submissions, please report them to Auto and I so we can review the issue. This is a major overhaul, so there will likely be small tweaks and changes as we navigate this turbulent new space lane.

I know a lot of people have been chomping at the bit for an update so you can flood the tech boards with a bunch of stuff that will go back and forth to get approved and then get used once and forgotten about so, I'm happy to announce that we finally have something to announce.

After much debate by the Staff Team, we are abolishing the entire Advanced Tech RP mechanic, and permanently eliminating Tech Plots.

What does this mean exactly? It means that most tech will be open for use by anyone who wants it. You'll still be limited to starting with a reasonable amount of tech, and you are still encouraged to acquire things organically through RP, but you will no longer be required to do a tech plot for it.

The Advanced Tech part of the tech templates will be replaced with a new "Restricted" section. Restrictions will come in a variety of different forms- capital ships, for example, will still be restricted for faction use and acquisition only, or some tech may be reserved for event rewards, limited to PvE use only, or cqn only be used during the course of an approved plot.

We've decided to make this change because, frankly, most Tech Plots sucked. They just were not serving the site story. About 90% were bare minimum effort grinds just to get hands on something that gave some pvp advantage, real or percieved. With less focus on pvp overall and more on storytelling, we felt it was time to shut it all down.


Obviously this entails a lot legwork as far as updating rules, templates, and existing tech submissions goes. The tech boards will remain closed while we work on this change. I would still avoid adding any Advanced Tech items to your character sheets or generitech in the meantime, as some items may become restricted rather than advanced. I'll update everyone when we are fully open for business again.

Can't wait to install Heavy Twin Turbo Lasers on my star fighter. It may have planet killing capabilities muhahahaha

Not if I install cloaking on it too. Cloak it from the pesky archiving mods.... Muhahaha

This is a stupidly late response but does this mean my Independent FS can just do a regular thread to build a lightsaber then?

Indie FSs have been able to start out with one since the start of the timeline. And you can do a normal thread to get a lightsaber if you want.

Late response, but this regards the removal of tech plots. Of course, any artifacts like holocrons would still require a plot I assume, but I'm guessing those would go under character plots?

Those would be character plots or a faction plot depending on the item.

Heya Tech Mods.

I know this is a lot of work. I certainly appreciate the effort to make this change--it is a good one!

Is there a ballpark estimate on when tech will open back up? A day, a week, a month? Just trying to judge for character planning purposes. No rush, just trying to get a sense of the timing.
