A Taz'goreii war chieftain during the Rattatak War

Thread Prefix: Fanon

Name: Taz’goreii

Biology: The Taz’goreii people are a hardy and aggressive lot, their evolution on Rattatak ensured these traits were instilled upon them. With males typically standing between 1.9558 and 2.07264 meters in height, while weighing 136.078 to 181.437 and females 1.8796 to 2.01168 meters while weighing 113.398 to 158.757 kgs, making these beings both large and stocky. These measurements and weights are simple averages and some members of the Taz'goreii have been noted to grow and weigh slightly more or less then these numbers. Like many other species, the Taz’goreii people are bipedal with a singular pair of arms. Unlike other races, the Taz’goreii have four digits on both their hands and feet, their hands have thumbs and then three other digits.

Due to the unrelenting deserts of Rattatak, the Taz’goreii people have various shades of earthen tones to their skins ranging from deep ebony to almost a muddied brown, sometimes a lighter shade of grey, and in rare cases a deep moss green. Their Sclera are typically earthen in color, either a onyx or shade of deep brown, with their irises typically holding brilliant colors ranging from crimson red to emerald green to even a golden hue of yellow.

Most Taz’goreii are also known to grow a pair of tusks as they pass through adolescence and into adulthood. These tusks are typically larger in males then they are in females with the male’s tusks ranging from 5.08 cm to 12.7 cm and females growing tusks ranging from 2.54 cm to 10.16 cm; although there are cases where Taz'goreii never develop tusks at all. In addition to this, the Taz’goreii are capable of grown hair, in more fundamental Taz’goreii societies their hair is grown into long locks and braided into dreadlocks. These dreadlocks are never cut unless an individual dishonors themselves, their clan, or their ancestors in some fashion or manner.

To allow for their gargantuan mass, the internal anatomy are typically enlarged on top of this, the Taz’goreii have evolved a pair of hearts to pump freshly oxygenated blood more quickly and efficiently throughout their bodies. This causes the external temperature of an individual Taz’goreii to rest at about 38.61 Celsius which is slightly then the average of most sentient races which sits at about 36.94 Celsius. However, this also allows the Taz’goreii to accomplish arduous tasks for extended periods of time before their bodies begin to exhaust.

The lifespan of an individual Taz’goreii varies from individual to individual but typically speaking males of the Taz’goreii people live to about the age of 68 galactic standard years and females live about 76 galactic standard years before succumbing to old age. Most Taz’goreii enter puberty between the ages of 8 and 9 galactic standard years and are considered mature adult between the ages of 16 and 18 galactic standard years.

Breeding: The Taz’goreii people reproduce through intercourse as many other species in the galaxy do. Pregnancy is accomplished through fertilization of a singular egg within the female’s uterus and after a period of 6 to 8 galactic standard months one or two live newborns are birthed. However, the Taz’goreii people are capable of breeding with other humanoid species and producing “half breeds” which typically hold many Taz’goreii traits. The Taz’goreii people, as with many other species in the galaxy, achieve biological adulthood through puberty. This is defined by three to four series of growth spurts over the course of 8 to 10 years, hormonal changes within an individual, and reaching sexual maturity.

Strengths: The Taz’goreii people are incredibly strong, possess a heightened stamina, and sturdy constitution. Many Taz’goreii are capable of holding their own against other races of colossal strength such as the Wookies of Kashyyk and the Trandoshans of Trandosha in both short and prolonged physical engagements. This is paired with their incredible stamina which allows them to continue arduous tasks that would exhaust other beings for slightly longer periods of time.

While many Taz’goreii are not considered to be the most intelligent beings in the galaxy, they do show signs of an almost bestial cunning and when engaged or provoked an unrelenting fury. These two almost genetic traits have allowed the Taz’goreii people to endure in some of the harshest of environments when other species would falter or die out.

Weaknesses: While the Taz’goreii people are strong, sturdy, cunning and ferocious they are not without weaknesses. Many of the Taz’goreii are easily provoked making living in normal societies extremely difficult and causing the general viewpoint that the Taz’goreii are simple savages. This is paired with a slightly lower than average intellect and more often than not an inability to focus on more than one task at a time causes several issues for members of the species to thrive in urban environments.

On top of this, the Taz’goreii are far slower than most other species, often times incapable of running down a foe due to their own weight and mass. When this is paired with a typically shortsighted, ill tempered, and physically powerful species it creates the image of an idiotic lumbering brute which is why many Taz’goreii are often captured and utilized as slaves by various cartels.

Their often times low intellect, mind capable of focusing on singular tasks, and able bodies make them the perfect target for labor or gladiatorial slaves in many outer rim systems. This fact has caused many Taz’goreii to become wary and often times aggressive towards any perceived threat, especially when their young are concerned.

Diet: The Taz’goreii people are considered omnivores but typically favor more carnivorous diets to gain the protein and other sources of nutrition their bodies require to survive. This diet is often quite large, as their massive frames and quick metabolisms require gargantuan quantities of fuel to continue running. This has caused the Taz’goreii people to be viewed as pests and locusts in some agricultural communities.

Behavior/Temperament: The Taz’goreii are typically extremely aggressive in all pursuits regardless if it is business or war. They are cut throat and willing to do whatever it takes to survive and endure through any hardships. This is paired with an uncanny cunning that allows them to often times outplay an opponent or ambush them when they least expect it.

Aside from this, Taz’goreii are considered to be extremely territorial, once they establish “roots” in an area they will refuse to budge unless otherwise forced to do so, which is not an easy task. This is complimented by an unnatural commitment to whatever goal they decide to focus upon, refusing to back down from any challenge that might face them and facing hardships head on with fanatical zeal.

On top of this, most Taz’goreii are extremely religious and dedicated to their “god” known to them as Taz’goroth. This deity represents the hardships they endure and demands their people persist through any challenges that befall them. It is often attributed to Death, War, and Domination in more fundamental Taz’goreii communities, while more progressive communities believe that Taz’goroth simply represents their people’s strong will to overcome all adversities at any cost.

Communication: The Taz’goreii are capable of verbal speech and often times are at the very least bilingual. Members of the species are usually fluent in both Taz’gor, the language of their people, and Galactic Basic. This does not mean that an individual member cannot learn other languages should their location require it, just that these two languages are the ones taught to all Taz’goreii children by their parents.

Culture: The Taz’goreii people believe in an entity known as “Taz’goroth” which in their minds represents either the strong will of their people or a being that demands they bring about War and Dominion to all that oppose them. These beliefs are split amongst the race depending on if the individual “tribe” or “clan” dwell in more rural or urban environments.

The more rural Taz’goreii typically live in a more tribal and warrior based culture where the strongest of their tribe members rule without equals. They are aggressive towards outsiders and slow to build trust with anyone outside of their community. These Taz’goreii are often considered to be savage brutes as they will attack and raid settlements that fall either within or on the borders of “their” territory.

Rural Taz’goreii often times decorate themselves with tattoos and ornately carve their tusks to give praise to their deity and ancestors. Each tattoo is meaningful to a Taz’goreii and holds some form of semblance in their community on top of being utilized to intimidate opposition. On top of this, “honor braids” are utilized to show feats an individual has accomplished, the more braids within an individual’s locks, the more accomplished they are within their field or profession.

Urban Taz’goreii typically are a little more outwardly focused but still dwell within tribes or clans. While not as aggressive towards outsiders as their more rural cousins, they are still distrustful and typically stay within their own communities. These individuals apply themselves to further society through menial labor or by developing small businesses with moderate success.

Despite their relatively calm demeanor when compared to their warrior cousins, they are still capable of entering into ferocious bouts of fury and are still quite aggressive and ill-tempered individuals. In extreme cases, Taz’goreii communities will often organize and attempt to wage their own form of war against those that have slighted them. Many of these rare cases often end in violence and bloodshed throughout lower and middle caste dwellings.

Aside from these rare spouts of violence, many Urban Taz’goreii still sport cultural tattoos on their bodies, but designed to be less intimidating and often times never appearing on the head or other visible extremities. The practice of “honor braiding” seems to not exist within more Urbanized communities and instead the focal point is on tattooing to represent both praise to their ancestors and accomplishments in their professions. The religious aspects of Taz’goreii culture also seems to be almost non-existent within these communities. Instead of viewing Taz’goroth as a literal god they view it as a personification of their people’s history and strength.

Regardless of rural or urbanized background, most Taz'goreii have two part names separated by a hyphenation. The first part acts as a surname it represents the clan the individual Taz'goreii originated from while the second part is unique to each individual Taz'goreii. These names are typically given in the Taz'goreii language and hold significance to each individual member of the race. (Example: Karza'Doroth. Karza being the clan and Doroth being the individuals unique name.)

History: The Taz’goreii people evolved on Rattatak alongside the brutal and savage Rattataki. It is unclear whether the savagery of the Taz’goreii and Rattataki are attributed to one another but it is clear that both species are highly aggressive towards one another. This is in part due to the long standing feud between the two species over the dominance and future of Rattatak that began eons in the past as a long standing war.

Which race began the war is still a mystery, with many Rattataki communities attributing the beginning of the war to the formation of the Taz’goroth beliefs and the campaign of bloodshed it inspired. But many Taz’goreii adamant that both their beliefs and aggression were simple retaliations towards Rattataki wars causing mass death inside their clans. Regardless of which race began the long and bloody war, the victor is very apparent, with few Taz’goreii communities left on Rattatak, it was the Rattataki who claimed the barren world as their own and forced the Taz’goreii off its surface.

This led to the Taz’goreii people creating settlements in rural worlds or forced them to adapt in order to survive in more civilized cultures. This caused the division in their belief system at an early stage of their religious development, with more rural clans of Taz’goreii being more traditional and fundamentalist and urban Taz’goreii adapting a more progressive mindset. However, regardless of where they opted to settle, the underworld took notice of the value the Taz’goreii held as a slave force.

For decades, Taz’goreii children would go missing and be sold into slavery by these cartels, especially on more urbanized worlds. These events caused much of the aggression in rural Taz’goreii communities and the reformation of “clans” in urban communities to provide a safety net for themselves and their children. While these adaptions slowed the slave trade of Taz’goreii it didn’t completely stem it, children still went missing and entire rural clans were still demolished and taken as slaves, however far less frequently.

As they stand now, the Taz’goreii typically keep to themselves, despite being treated as outcasts and mongrels by many of the other races. Their physical prowess and dedication to whatever they set their minds to has created some of the finest soldiers, mercenaries, pilots, Jedi, and in some cases Sith the galaxy has ever witnessed.

Planet: Rattatak

Technology: Taz’goreii are capable of utilizing and understanding modern technology.

Intent: I wanted to create an interesting “orc” race that was largely viewed as savage or cruel and treated as pariahs by the large portion of the Galaxy. Molded it to fit a more star warsy feel and backdrop without sacrificing key fantasy viewpoints and ideals, at least in my opinion.

Always loved the idea of an orc-like race. Love this profile! Anyways, having read through this once, and just read through it again, I can't see any glaring issues with it. I do have an observation, though, before I approve it (though it isn't a huge issue by any means):

The profile said:

These sentences seem to contradict themselves, and the last one in particular seems to contradict what you've written about them throughout the profile. From my understanding, the Taz'goreii (I'm going to call them the "Taz" for short) are a sequestered people. They don't trust outsiders due to the treatment of their kind, and they tend to keep to themselves, so it stands to reason that there would be almost none of them in the outside galaxy, save those who were still in slavery—let alone any who went on to become the best pilots, mercenaries, or Sith (though I grant you, I could see perhaps a solider or a Jedi, if they were ever rescued from slavery at some point).

Your numerous comments on their general lack of intelligence throughout the profile would also suggest that, even if some did become pilots, Jedi, Sith, etc., they wouldn't be very good despite their dedication—because all of these occupations require a high degree of intelligence and training. Their rather lackluster intelligence would also suggest that, while they may be trained to use modern technology, left to their own devices, they wouldn't be any good at it—and the training might be a long and difficult road.

These are just general observations. If you could clear this up, I'd say everything else checks out. @Apollyon

Well there are two different cultural "sects" the more "rural or tribal" sect of the race and the more "modernized" sect. The Rural and tribal sect are more traditionalists in their beliefs and believe that they are basically destined to help breed a strong galaxy where only the best of the best can thrive. The more modernized (while still relatively tribal in the sense they keep to "clan" structures within populated centers) but they aren't so xenophobic as much as they are withdrawn and try to keep to themselves while being productive members of society. These Taz'goreii believe their "god" is more like a personification of their history and the struggles their people endured.

As for their intellect, the way I meant to word it was that they weren't "dumb brutes" they typically are less intelligent and more prone to aggressive behavioral patterns (especially when provoked) this on top of the fact they typically only focus on ONE thing to spend their lives doing makes them excel in it as time progresses. That being said, a genius Taz'goreii would have above average intellect for other races but on an average they are slightly less intelligent then the average person. There are things that would be extremely uncommon for them to become, like a Sorcerer or Sage this is mainly due to the ease they can give into a "blind rage" while they would easily fit into a Sith Warrior or Jedi Knight archetype.

I hope that clears it up a bit?

Probably setting them more on Rattatak during the midst of their race war against the Rattataki. There will be off world Taz’goreii but they will mostly be individuals looking to find help in that conflict.
