DESCRIPTION​

The T2M light gunship is a military landing craft which was originally developed from the T2S light freighter, an affordable cargo transport designed by Kaniff Yards and widely licensed to 3rd party manufacturers. VecTrac Industries was one of these licensees, and though they continue to produce the standard configuration for commercial customers, they quickly set about making specialized variants, one of these being the T2M.

The T2M is essentially an up-gunned, ruggedized version of the T2S. Identical in overall dimensions, it has nevertheless been modified to include an extra defensive turret, as well as a hull-mounted dual laser casemate with its own gunner position, meant primarily to engage ground targets and clear landing zones for disembarking troops. The ship's crew has been increased to 4, including 2 dedicated gunners, plus 12 passengers, typically soldiers and their gear. Cargo capacity has been reduced from 75 to 50 tons, still respectable for a gunship, and consumables are sufficient for 1 month. Notably, although slight narrowed to accommodate the T2M's laser casemate, the ship retains the freighter variant's clam-shell loading hatch, allowing for quick deployment of troops upon landing.

T2M light gunships, being derived from a standard light freighter design, are cheaper to buy and easier to maintain than many comparable designs, although they are not as heavily armed or as well protected as purpose-built ships. Nevertheless, they have become relatively popular, especially with small militaries and mercenaries.

LEGALITY​

Restricted. Although based on a civilian freighter design, the T2M is classified as military equipment in most systems, and civilian operators will therefore require special licensing.
