DESCRIPTION
The T-70T X-Wing Trainer is a version of the standard T-70 X-Wing intended for starfighter pilot training. Essentially a T-70 with a lengthened cockpit to accommodate an instructor, the T-70T also has somewhat down-rated systems and more forgiving controls. Despite this, it excels in preparing fledgling pilots for "hot" fighters like the standard T-70 and other models in the X-Wing range.

The T-70T incorporates many features from the standard X-Wing, including functional S-foils, an astromech droid and a hyperdrive. The ship's armament is appropriately down-rated for its training role, with 4 light laser cannons on the wingtips compared to the medium cannons on standard models, and a 4-shot concussion missile launcher rather than a full torpedo launcher. The T-70T lacks shields, although these are not considered necessary for simulated combat. The ship also only has a class 4 hyperdrive rather than the real thing's class 1, although again, this is considered sufficient for navigation exercises. As with most astromech-equipped fighters, hyperspace calculations are normally handled by the onboard droid.

The T-70T has a second seat located behind the pilot, designed to accommodate an instructor. A full set of flight controls is duplicated here, with the addition of a cutoff switch that allows an instructor to assume full control of the spacecraft at any time, locking out the trainee pilot.

The T-70T is a popular training ship throughout the Galaxy, especially with organizations that already use the standard X-Wing. Despite its trainer designation, however, the T-70T is just as maneuverable as a normal X-Wing if not quite as fast, and though its weapons are downgraded, the ship can still fight. Many independent spacers fly the T-70T as a personal craft, and they are commonly used by law enforcement agencies. Pirates and other criminals have also been known to operate them, as they are easier to get hold of than standard starfighters.

LEGALITY
Restricted. Though designed for the training role, T-70Ts are still technically starfighters, and are subject to extra licensing requirements and increased scrutiny by authorities.

INTENT
To create a standard, mid-range starfighter.
