DESCRIPTION​

The Starlight-class light freighter is a fast cargo transport produced by Rendili-Surron, a short-lived joint venture between Rendili StarDrive and Surron StarTech, the latter being a relative newcomer to starship manufacturing at the time. Though it ended up being a weak move for the much larger Rendili, it proved to be just the boost in sales and reputation that Surron needed to gain a foothold in the market, leading to a dynasty of Surron StarTech products which endures to this day.

The Starlight is an odd-looking craft, incorporating a tubular fuselage attached to a crescent-shaped wing section. The ship can be flown by a single individual, and can seat up to 4 additional passengers, although living space aboard the vessel is considered somewhat cramped, spartan and lacking in privacy. The ship has a spacious cargo bay which can carry up to 50 standard tons, plus consumable stores for up to 4 standard months in space. Performance is good, with a 65 MGLT top speed and a class 2 hyperdrive. Armament is slightly disappointing, with only a single fixed medium laser cannon and medium shields for defense.

The Starlight-class freighter, though not a runaway success, has found its niche in the market. Although the Rendili-Surron partnership was dissolved decades ago, Surron StarTech has acquired full rights to the design and continues to manufacture it as part of its "heritage" line. With various upgrades, the type has proven popular with scouts, smugglers and solitary nomads.
