CORE GALAXY SYSTEMS FRIGATE

AFFILIATION
Various.

MANUFACTURER
Core Galaxy Systems.

CLASS
Frigate.

ROLE
Ship of the line.

COMPOSITION
Duranium and transparisteel.

DIMENSIONS
Length - 375 meters.

CREW
75 minimum, 225 optimum.

PASSENGER CAPACITY
100.

CARGO CAPACITY
400 standard tons.

HANGAR CAPACITY
4x shuttle, 16x starfighter.

CONSUMABLES
4 standard months.

SPEED/MANEUVERABILITY
A Core Galaxy Systems Frigate can reach 50 MGLT maximum speed and has average maneuvering characteristics.

ARMAMENT
  • 8x dual light laser turret.
  • 3x dual medium laser turret.
  • 1x dual medium ion cannon casemate.
  • 2x torpedo tube.
  • 2x fixed triple turbolaser.
  • 2x tractor beam emitter.

EQUIPMENT

DESCRIPTION
The Core Galaxy Systems Frigate is a warship produced by the Core Galaxy Systems corporation, and marketed primarily to the Galaxy's small navies and system defense forces. Part of CGS' "Standard" line, the Frigate is capable of going toe-to-toe with many smaller and even comparably sized warships, but primarily relies on its capacity to carry starfighters to engage larger, more powerful targets, preferably at standoff range. In addition, CGS Frigates are engineered to be durable and easy to maintain, ensuring long, relatively trouble-free service careers.

CGS Frigates are equipped with a respectable armament, including 8 dual light laser turrets for fending off small craft, mounted 4 on each side, 3 dual medium laser turrets for engaging larger foes, a dual medium ion cannon casemate in a nacelle, and a pair of triple-mount fixed turbolasers located one each in the twin bows, giving the vessel a heavy punch so long as it can face an enemy head on. Unusually, CGS Frigates also mount a pair of heavy torpedo tubes, useful against capital ships when loaded with assault torpedoes, or for launching more specialized ordinance such as boarding torpedoes.

Of course, as noted, the CGS Frigate's primary striking power is its starfighter compliment. It has a pair of hangar bays, each capable of carry 8 starfighters and 2 shuttles, for a total of 16 and 4, respectively. The hangars are well protected, with their entrances facing inward between the ship's split bows; while this does make launch and recovery of small craft less straightforward than it would be on a dedicated carrier, it reduces their - and by extension the ship's - vulnerability to enemy fire.

CGS Frigates do have certain shortcomings, of course. Their asymmetrical design, for example, makes for uneven coverage by their heavier weapons, with the entire starboard side being notably bare of anything save a few light laser cannons. CGS Frigates are also only equipped with a class 6 hyperdrive, making them slower than some other military vessels over interstellar distances; as a result, CGS Frigates are primarily assigned to local defense roles, serving in system garrison fleets or patrolling sub-sectors.

Despite their shortcomings, CGS Frigates are sturdy and reliable vessels, and are commonly seen in service with the navies of independent systems and regional governments.

LEGALITY
Restricted. CGS Frigates are considered capital warships, generally making them illegal for civilian ownership.

INTENT
To create a standard type of frigate used by local defense fleets.

ADVANCED TECH
Yes. CGS Frigates are not trivial to buy, steal or otherwise acquire, and it would take a plot of at least 2 threads to do so.

  • 12x dual heavy laser turret.
  • 9x dual turbolaser turret.
  • 6x torpedo tube.
  • 3x tractor beam emitter.
  • 3x dual medium ion cannon casemate.

EQUIPMENT

DESCRIPTION
The Core Galaxy Systems Battleship is a warship produced by the Core Galaxy Systems corporation, and marketed primarily to the Galaxy's small navies and system defense forces. Part of CGS' "Standard" line, the Battleship is capable of going toe-to-toe with most opponents in its class. In addition, CGS Battleships are engineered to be durable and easy to maintain, ensuring long, relatively trouble-free service careers.

CGS Battleships are equipped with a respectable armament, including 18 dual light laser turrets for fending off small craft, 15 dual medium laser turrets for engaging larger foes, a trio of dual medium ion cannon casemates, and 9 dual turbolaser turrets. Unusually, CGS Battleships also mount 6 heavy torpedo tubes, useful against other capital ships when loaded with assault torpedoes, or for launching more specialized ordinance such as boarding torpedoes.

CGS Battleships carry a respectable compliment of starfighters, 32 of them in total, in addition to 8 shuttles, making them effective carriers. The starfighter compliment significantly enhances the ship's strike capability, as well as its reconnaissance potential, although such vessels are not often without at least some fleet support.

CGS Battleships do have certain shortcomings, of course. Their asymmetrical design, for example, makes for uneven coverage by their heavier weapons, with only 1/3rd of their armament able to be focused in any given direction. CGS Battleships are also only equipped with a class 6 hyperdrive, making them slower than some other military vessels over interstellar distances; as a result, CGS Battleships are primarily assigned to local defense roles, serving in system garrison fleets or patrolling sub-sectors.

Despite their shortcomings, CGS Battleships are sturdy and reliable vessels, and are commonly seen in service with the navies of independent systems and regional governments. Being a fairly expensive item, however, they are less common than some of CGS' smaller capital ship designs.

LEGALITY
Restricted. CGS Battleships are considered capital warships, generally making them illegal for civilian ownership.

INTENT
To create a standard type of cruiser used by local defense fleets.

ADVANCED TECH
Yes. CGS Battleships are not trivial to buy, steal or otherwise acquire, and it would take a plot of at least 3 threads to do so.

CORE GALAXY SYSTEMS MONITOR

AFFILIATION

ROLE
Littoral defense/bombardment ship.

COMPOSITION
Duranium and transparisteel.

DIMENSIONS
Length - 50 meters.

CREW

CARGO CAPACITY
40 standard tons.

HANGAR CAPACITY

SPEED/MANEUVERABILITY
A Core Galaxy Systems Monitor can reach 60 MGLT maximum speed and has average maneuvering characteristics.

ARMAMENT
  • 1x dual light laser turret.
  • 1x fixed turbolaser.
  • 2x torpedo tube.

EQUIPMENT

DESCRIPTION
The Core Galaxy Systems Monitor is a short-range warship produced by the Core Galaxy Systems corporation, and marketed primarily to the Galaxy's small navies and system defense forces. Part of CGS' "Standard" line, the Monitor is designed to pack the maximum amount of firepower into the smallest possible hull, and is intended as a low-cost, low-manpower alternative to larger warships, such as corvettes and frigates, although it does have some drawbacks.

CGS Monitors are built around a single large turbolaser cannon, fixed in a nacelle located beneath the ship. Located on the rear of the nacelle is a single dual light laser turret, which gives the ship a modicum of defense against smaller, more maneuverable craft. CGS Monitors also mount 2 heavy torpedo tubes, useful against capital ships when loaded with assault torpedoes, or for launching more specialized ordinance such as boarding torpedoes.

CGS Monitors do have various shortcomings, of course. While packing a great deal of firepower for their size, the fixed nature of much of their armament - notably their prime weapon, the nacelle turbolaser - limits their tactical options in comparison to their larger siblings. Monitor tactics are essentially starfighter tactics; they must be facing the enemy head on in order to engage, and while their weapons are more potent than most starfighters, they are not nearly as fast or maneuverable as most, and must therefore depend heavily on starfighter escort or accept being savaged by enemy defensive fire during their attack runs. CGS Monitors also lack a hyperdrive, and thus are really only useful for local defense, further limiting their practical utility.

Regardless of this, CGS Monitors have an optimum crew of just 10, in comparison to dozens or even hundreds for larger warships. Their small size and straightforward layout also make them easy to maintain, reducing repair and maintenance costs over their service lives. These factors make them easier for small navies to crew and operate, making them a popular choice for less prosperous worlds which have small budgets for naval expenditures, but still want something with enough punch to do the job, at least in theory. Despite their shortcomings, CGS Monitors are a common sight in the navies of backrocket star systems the Galaxy over.

LEGALITY
Restricted. CGS Monitors are considered capital warships due to their armament, generally making them illegal for civilian ownership.

INTENT
To create a standard type of monitor used by local defense fleets.

ADVANCED TECH
Yes. CGS Monitors are not trivial to buy, steal or otherwise acquire, and it would take a plot of at least 2 threads to do so.

KRILL-CLASS INTERCEPTOR

AFFILIATION
Various.

MANUFACTURER
Republic Fleet Systems.

CLASS
Starfighter.

ROLE
Point defense interceptor.

COMPOSITION
Duralumin and transparisteel.

DIMENSIONS
Length - 10 meters.

CREW
1 pilot.

PASSENGER CAPACITY
N/A.

CARGO CAPACITY
50 kilograms.

HANGAR CAPACITY
N/A.

CONSUMABLES
1 standard day.

SPEED/MANEUVERABILITY
A Krill-class interceptor can reach 110 MGLT maximum speed and has excellent maneuvering characteristics.

ARMAMENT
  • 4x light laser cannon.

EQUIPMENT

DESCRIPTION
The Krill-class interceptor, popularly known as the K-wing, is a fast, short-range interceptor produced by the Republic Fleet Systems corporation. Designed to intercept enemy bombers, fighters and reconnaissance ships, the K-wing has a blistering top speed of 110 MGLT and a respectable armament in the form of 4 wingtip-mounted light laser cannons, but not much else.

K-wings have a limited range compared to many contemporary starfighters, lacking a hyperdrive or even much in the way of fuel and other consumables. They are meant to act as "chimney fighters," stationed at or near vulnerable targets such as industrial and population centers, and poised to scramble at a moment's notice. They sacrifice almost everything for speed, lacking shields and having a relatively delicate hull; their main defense is their speed and maneuverability, and failing that, the pilot's ability to eject in time. K-wings are typically land-based, their short range and fragility giving them limited utility as a shipboard fighter. Nevertheless, they are a common sight in the skies above industrial and metropolitan areas on many planets.

Of note, K-wings have an unusual landing configuration. When landed, they lay on their side, with the pilot seat extended outside the cockpit on a retractable arm and rotated parallel to the ground. Launching is mostly automatic; when the pilot straps in and presses a button on the seat, it retracts into the cockpit while the starfighter rotates into the "upright" position at the same time. This makes entering and exiting the cockpit fairly easy, and aids in fast takeoffs.

LEGALITY
Restricted. Without proper licensing and/or bribes/connections, Krill-class interceptors are legal only for recognized military and paramilitary groups.

INTENT
To create a standard type of short-range interceptor.

ADVANCED TECH
No. Krill-class interceptors are reasonably common, although being legally restricted makes them non-trivial for the average individual to own.

Z-Z STARFIGHTER

AFFILIATION
Various.

MANUFACTURER
Koensayr Manufacturing.

CLASS

ROLE
Strike starfighter.

COMPOSITION
Alusteel and transparisteel.

DIMENSIONS
Length - 12 meters.

CREW

CONSUMABLES
5 standard days.

SPEED/MANEUVERABILITY
An Z-Z starfighter can reach 90 MGLT maximum speed and has decent maneuvering characteristics.

ARMAMENT
  • 2x light laser cannon.
  • 1x proton bomb rack, 5 bomb capacity.

EQUIPMENT

DESCRIPTION
The Z-Z starfighter is a product of the Koensayr Manufacturing corporation, and is a staple of low-budget militaries, paramilitaries, smugglers and pirates the Galaxy over. Though not very fast and only lightly armed, the Z-Z does come with shields and a hyperdrive as standard. It's also fairly blasterproof; easy to fly and cheap to maintain, it has a reputation for being durable. While it may not be the fastest, or the hardest hitting, it can take a few hits, and will fly you home from situations where a more advanced machine would have augured into the ground.

In terms of armament, the Z-Z is equipped with a pair of light laser cannons mounted in the nose, along with a bomb rack with a capacity of 5 proton bombs. The latter, while not as useful against small targets as concussion missiles or proton torpedoes might be, can still dish out a fair amount of hurt on stationary ground targets and slow moving capital ships. For protection, the Z-Z mounts light shields, and if they should fail, an ejection seat with an integrated survival capsule for the pilot to bail out in. In terms of speed, the Z-Z only has a top speed of 90 MGLT, making it slower than many of its contemporaries, but unlike some of them it is also equipped with a class 3 hyperdrive, giving it the option to run rather than stand and fight against long odds.

The Z-Z's natural habitat is the Galaxy's various backrocket regions, being a popular option for system defense forces and law enforcement agencies on a budget. Pirates, smugglers and other fringers also make good use of Z-Zs as both combat units and personal transports.

LEGALITY
Restricted. Without proper licensing and/or bribes/connections, Z-Z starfighters are legal only for recognized military and paramilitary groups.

INTENT
To create a standard type of jack-of-all-trades starfighter.

ADVANCED TECH
No. Z-Z starfighters are reasonably common, although being legally restricted makes them non-trivial for the average individual to own.

SPEED/MANEUVERABILITY
A P-IV Lorem can reach 80 MGLT maximum speed and has decent maneuvering characteristics.

ARMAMENT
  • 1x medium laser cannon.

EQUIPMENT

DESCRIPTION
The P-IV Lorem is a typically old-fashioned starship produced by the venerable Barancar Action Systems, an Outer Rim spacecraft manufacturer based on the ancient industrial world of Barancar in the Tion Cluster. The Lorem is a pinnace, a sort of half-way pint between a starfighter and a light freighter, a concept that was once popular in the Galaxy but which fell out of favor with the development of shields and hyperdrives small and power-efficient enough for dedicated starfighters to use. Pinnaces typically have longer range and carrying capacity than starfighters, despite not being as fast or compact, and so still have a market niche among certain fringer groups, who appreciate a ship that can fight and turn its way out of trouble in a pinch. Pinnaces can also be licensed as freighters under many jurisdictions, avoiding the legal complications associated with independent starfighter ownership.

The Lorem is equipped with a single medium laser cannon for armament, as well as a light deflector screen generator for defense. It is equipped with a class 4 hyperdrive, giving it a respectable range. Top speed is about 80 MGLT, slower than most starfighters, but maneuverability is still respectable, and it can turn almost like one. The crew consists of a pilot and co-pilot, although the latter can be dispensed with if necessary; in addition, up to 2 passengers can be carried, with accommodations including privacy-screened sleeping berths, an autogalley and an enclosed refresher provided, albeit with cramped conditions. The ship can also carry up to 2 tons of cargo, making it useful as a courier vessel.

Notably, the Lorem has a large vertical stabilizer mounted in the nose, with engine pods at either end. When landing, this stabilizer separates from the fuselage on a pivot and rotates to a horizontal position. It returns to its normal position after takeoff.

The Lorem's capabilities have made it popular with small courier services which operate in the Galaxy's more dangerous regions, and with independent owners looking for a ship they can nominally live out of, but which can also get them out of trouble in a pinch. Both pirates and law enforcement use the Lorem, as do a number of backrocket militaries with limited budgets, who look to get more versatility out of their spacecraft.

LEGALITY
Legal. P-IV Lorems are typically considered to be very light freighters, and can be registered as such under most jurisdictions.

INTENT
To create general purpose starship which can also dogfight.

ADVANCED TECH
No. P-IV Lorems, while not exactly common, are still fairly easy to buy, steal or otherwise acquire.

An S-25 Skirmisher can reach 100 MGLT maximum speed and has decent maneuvering characteristics.

ARMAMENT

EQUIPMENT

DESCRIPTION
The S-25 Skirmisher is a model of starfighter produced by the Pan-Galactic Power Products corporation, a monolithic and venerable firm which manufactures everything from kitchen implements to starships. The Skirmisher is a swift, hyperdrive-equipped, and has proven popular with a variety of customers, from major militaries to independent thrill-seekers.

The Skirmisher is armed with a pair of nose-mounted medium laser cannons, as well as a quartet of concussion missiles, giving it a respectable punch in combat. Top speed is 100 MGLT, and maneuverability is decent for its class, allowing the Skirmisher to turn with most opponents. It is also equipped with a class 2 hyperdrive, giving it the ability to run from anything it can't shoot down. The type does lack shields as a trade-off, but a skilled pilot can still do well, and the ship's hull is reasonably durable.

Skirmishers, unlike some starfighters, are designed to act independently, their hyperdrives allowing them to operate far from supporting bases or capital ships. They are a favorite implement for hit-and-run and ambush tactics, although they are suited to many other roles as well, including escort and reconnaissance.

Skirmishers can be found in service with military and law enforcement organizations across the Galaxy. Mercenaries, pirates and other fringers use them as well. All have developed an appreciation for this remarkable machine; while more advanced machines exist, and despite being a product by a huge corporation, reportedly has a host of unique features and personality quirks that endear it to its pilots. Further, it has a reputation for getting the job done.

LEGALITY
Restricted. Without proper licensing and/or bribes/connections, S-25 Skirmishers are legal only for recognized military and paramilitary groups.

INTENT
To create a standard strike starfighter.

ADVANCED TECH
No. S-25 Skirmishers are reasonably common, although being legally restricted makes them non-trivial for the average individual to own.

SPEED/MANEUVERABILITY
An Orlean S100 can reach 40 MGLT maximum speed and has average maneuvering characteristics.

ARMAMENT

EQUIPMENT

DESCRIPTION
The S100, fondly dubbed the "Star Bus" by the scouts who fly them, is a deep-space exploration and survey vessel manufactured by the Orlean corporation. Originally built to fulfill a specification put forward by the Republic Survey Corps shortly before the Hundred-Year Darkness, the S100 has proven to be a sturdy and versatile design, having remained in continuous production for centuries. Used by many generations of scouts, the S100 is responsible for the discovery of more new hyperlanes and star systems than any other single class of vessel in known Galactic history; statistically, it is the first starship most pre-hyperdrive civilizations encounter.

Despite its age, the S100 is still feature-packed even by modern standards. For defense, it is equipped with a retractable dual light laser turret in the dorsal hull, as well as a medium shield generator. Housed in blade-like fins at the front and on top of the ship, the S100 is equipped with long-range sensor and communication systems, allowing it to perform detailed scans of new territory and beam its findings back to often distant authorities. To conduct these surveys, the ship has a class 4 primary hyperdrive and a class 10 backup, with matching redundant navicomputers, allowing it to still get home if the primary is damaged. Cargo capacity is a fairly small 10 tons. Finally, speed is a relatively slow 40 MGLT, with average maneuverability.

The ship has an optimum crew of 3, including a pilot, co-pilot and gunner, although only the pilot is actually needed to fly the ship in most situations. 2 other passengers can also be carried. The ship has good onboard accommodations, including private cabins and refreshers for all crew, a well-appointed galley and various entertainment options, all engineered to create an optimal long-term living space for both crew and passengers; this is important, as an S100 can often undertake missions lasting months or even years. The ship also has a combined science lab and medical suite for studying samples from alien planets and moons, as well as treating any injuries or other medical emergencies suffered by the crew.

The ship's cockpit, unusually, is located near the rear of the vessel, inside a dorsal hump structure behind the laser turret's retractable cover.

S100s are generally seen at the fringes of civilization, pushing out the frontiers star by star, planet by planet. Though fairly specialized for the exploration and survey role, to the point where they really aren't useful for much else, they are still well liked by the crews, who often consider their "Star Bus" to be their second - or even first - home. At any rate, they have plied the stars for centuries, and are likely to for centuries yet to come.

LEGALITY
Legal. Orlean S100s are considered innocuous enough under most jurisdictions, and can be registered without undue fuss.

INTENT
To create a standard type of exploration ship used by scouts.

ADVANCED TECH
No. Orlean S100s, while not as common as some other ships, are still fairly easy to buy, steal or otherwise acquire.

A CEC TT-1000 can reach 50 MGLT maximum speed and has average maneuvering characteristics.

ARMAMENT

EQUIPMENT

DESCRIPTION
The TT-1000 is a vessel in Corellian Engineering Corporation's TT line of vessels. One of the line's most successful iterations, the TT-1000, popularly known as the "Double Tee" or simply the "TT," is a versatile light freighter, popular with both large haulage firms and independent operators throughout the Galaxy. Its shear ubiquity has made it a part of the Galactic transport landscape, with millions manufactured and sold so far.

The TT-1000 has a long, vaguely mandolviol-shaped fuselage, with the cockpit located at the top of the "neck" section. The ship has two dual light laser turrets for protection, mounted dorsal and ventral, along with a medium deflector shield and a fairly sturdy durasteel hull. The ship has an optimum crew of 3, including a pilot, co-pilot and engineer, with the latter two doubling as gunners in combat. In practical terms, only the pilot is actually needed, though flying with at least a co-pilot is recommended, and is indeed common practice. In addition to the crew, a TT-1000 can carry up to 12 passengers, albeit in fairly spartan conditions. Mainly, the ship is meant to carry cargo, up to 60 tons of it, a respectable load for any light freighter. The ship's top speed is about 50 MGLT with average maneuverability, not exactly starfighter performance but about standard for a light freighter.

The TT-1000 has been a major commercial success for CEC, and the type is used by all strata of the shipping landscape. One could go to any spaceport from the Deep Core to the Outer Rim, and be likely to see a TT-1000 landing, being loaded/unloaded, or taking off.

LEGALITY
Legal. TT-1000s are considered innocuous enough under most jurisdictions, and can be registered without undue fuss.

An FXL light freighter can reach 60 MGLT maximum speed and has average maneuvering characteristics.

ARMAMENT
  • 1x dual light laser turret.

EQUIPMENT

DESCRIPTION
The FXL is a light freighter manufactured by the Tykannin Drive corporation. Boxy and nondescript, and brutally utilitarian, the FXL is a favorite of courier services and independent pilots. Its generic appearance helps it avoid undue attention, making it attractive to those wishing to transport certain small, high-value cargoes.

The FXL has an optimum crew of 2, consisting of a pilot and co-pilot, although only a single pilot is actually necessary to fly the ship. The cockpit is located on the underside of the hull. For defense, the FXL mounts a single dual light laser turret on the starboard side, along with a medium deflector shield. It can carry up to 40 tons of cargo, respectable for its size, as well as up to 7 passengers, albeit with somewhat spare accommodations. Top speed is an average 60 MGLT, but it also has a class 4 hyperdrive, giving it better performance over interstellar distances than some other freighters.

Though not as ubiquitous as some other models, the FXL has managed to net a respectable market share for its manufacturer, and is a staple of courier and express shipping services, as well as certain illicit trades.

LEGALITY

THUNDER-CLASS PATROL SKIFF

AFFILIATION
Various.

MANUFACTURER
Domel-Berger Yards.

CLASS
Gunship.

ROLE
Patrol ship/heavy interceptor.

COMPOSITION
Durasteel and transparisteel.

DIMENSIONS
Length - 18 meters.

CREW
1 minimum, 4 optimum.

PASSENGER CAPACITY
4.

CARGO CAPACITY
4 standard tons.

HANGAR CAPACITY
N/A.

CONSUMABLES
1 standard week.

SPEED/MANEUVERABILITY
A Thunder-class patrol skiff can reach 80 MGLT top speed and has decent maneuvering characteristics.

ARMAMENT
  • 1x tractor beam emitter.
  • 2x dual light laser turret.
  • 8x fixed medium laser cannon, 4x port, 4x starboard.

EQUIPMENT

DESCRIPTION
The Thunder-class patrol skiff is a class of gunship produced by the venerable Domel-Berger Yards, a well-regarded manufacturer of primarily capital ships for various military customers across the Galaxy. The Thunder is a smaller vessel than they traditionally make, although it has the traditional Domel-Berger fit and finish.

Designed for patrol and interdiction duties, the Thunder functions as something like a slow, heavily armed starfighter, equipped with a pair of dual light laser turrets for defense, as well as a full octet of fixed medium laser cannons, with 4 each to port and starboard. With these weapons, the Thunder can unleash a withering broadside, pulling up alongside its targets and blazing away before withdrawing for another pass, or more often, docking to take the surviving crew's surrender. The ship's favored prey are medium-sized craft attempting to avoid customs inspections or blockades, and though it is not as fast as some ships, it is fast enough to overhaul most light freighters and other typical smuggling craft. For boarding intercepted vessels, the Thunder is equipped with a tractor beam for grappling and/or towing, a docking ring, cofferdam and hull-cutting equipment. There is space for up to 4 passengers, typically customs officials, other law enforcement officers or marines. The ship itself has a crew of 4, including a pilot, co-pilot/broadside gunner, and 2 turret gunners.

Thunder-class patrol skiffs are equipped hyperdrives, but only of class 6, and thus they are mostly used for more localized duties, such as patrolling a given system or planetary orbit. They are well-regarded and widely used by police, customs and system defense forces, and are generally considered to be a smuggler's worst nightmare.

LEGALITY
Restricted. Thunder-class patrol skiffs are seen as too heavily armed for civilian applications, generally making them illegal for civilian ownership under many jurisdictions.

INTENT
To create a small, heavily armed customs enforcement vessel, to be the bane of would-be smugglers and blockade runners everywhere.

ADVANCED TECH
Yes. Thunder-class patrol skiffs are not trivial to buy, steal or otherwise acquire, and it would take a plot of at least 2 threads to do so.

CORE GALAXY SYSTEMS CORVETTE

AFFILIATION
Various.

MANUFACTURER
Core Galaxy Systems.

CLASS
Corvette.

ROLE
Ship of the line.

COMPOSITION
Duranium and transparisteel.

DIMENSIONS
Length - 175 meters.

CREW
10 minimum, 50 optimum.

PASSENGER CAPACITY
30.

CARGO CAPACITY
200 standard tons.

HANGAR CAPACITY
2x shuttle, 4x starfighter.

CONSUMABLES
4 standard months.

SPEED/MANEUVERABILITY
A Core Galaxy Systems Corvette can reach 60 MGLT maximum speed and has average maneuvering characteristics.

ARMAMENT

EQUIPMENT

DESCRIPTION
The Core Galaxy Systems Corvette is a warship produced by the Core Galaxy Systems corporation, and marketed primarily to the Galaxy's small navies and system defense forces. Part of CGS' "Standard" line, the Corvette is capable of going toe-to-toe with many smaller and even comparably sized warships. In addition, CGS corvettes are engineered to be durable and easy to maintain, ensuring long, relatively trouble-free service careers.

CGS corvettes are equipped with a respectable armament, including 4 dual light laser turrets for fending off small craft, 4 medium and 2 heavy fixed laser cannons for engaging larger foes, a pair of fixed ion cannons and a pair of double-mount fixed turbolasers. CGS corvettes also mount a single heavy torpedo tube mounted in a nacelle, useful against capital ships when loaded with assault torpedoes, or for launching more specialized ordinance such as boarding torpedoes. The ship can also carry its own starfighter compliment, 4 of them in an internal hangar, as well as a pair of shuttles.

CGS corvettes, while heavily armed, are essentially very large monitors, with most of their main, secondary and tertiary armament fixed in place, facing forward, with their only turreted weapons being their light anti-starfighter cannons. While this does limit the corvette's tactical options in a fight, it does make aiming all of the ship's guns at a single target a straightforward affair, and cuts down on maintenance as well. This is a major selling point for small navies that don't expect to fight often, and have limited budgets for things like upkeep and repairs.

CGS corvettes are also only equipped with a class 6 hyperdrive, making them slower than some other military vessels over interstellar distances; as a result, they are primarily assigned to local defense roles, serving in system garrison fleets or patrolling sub-sectors.

Despite their shortcomings, CGS corvettes are sturdy and reliable vessels, and are commonly seen in service with the navies of independent systems and regional governments.

LEGALITY
Restricted. CGS corvettes are considered capital warships, generally making them illegal for civilian ownership.

INTENT
To create a standard type of corvette used by local defense fleets.

ADVANCED TECH
Yes. CGS corvettes are not trivial to buy, steal or otherwise acquire, and it would take a plot of at least 2 threads to do so.

KS-9910 KATHOL-CLASS SKIFF

AFFILIATION
Various.

MANUFACTURER
Hoersch-Kessel Drive, Inc.

CLASS
Light freighter.

ROLE
Courier ship.

COMPOSITION

DIMENSIONS
Length - 20 meters.

CREW
1 minimum, 2 optimum.

PASSENGER CAPACITY
6.

CARGO CAPACITY
20 standard tons.

HANGAR CAPACITY
N/A.

CONSUMABLES
1 standard month.

SPEED/MANEUVERABILITY
A Kathol-class skiff can reach 70 MGLT maximum speed and has average maneuvering characteristics.

ARMAMENT
  • 1x dual light laser turret.

EQUIPMENT

DESCRIPTION
The KS-9910 Kathol-class skiff is a light freighter produced by the Hoersch-Kessel Drive corporation. Among the faster light freighters on the market, it is widely used by express courier services, as well as certain less-than-reputable independent spacers.

The Kathol-class skiff - named, incidentally, for the famously rugged Kathol sector - is a swift machine, capable of making 70 MGLT, with a class 4 hyperdrive giving it decent speed over interstellar distances as well. It can carry 20 standard tons of cargo, as well as up to 6 passengers. Crew is 1 pilot and 1 optional co-pilot, the latter doubling as a gunner for the ship's single defensive dual laser turret, mounted on the dorsal hull.

In a crowded small, fast courier market, the Kathol has managed to carve out a niche for itself, and is reasonably popular. This is in no small part due to strong aftermarket support; parts for the ship are easy to acquire in many parts of the Galaxy, and their systems are easy to tune and modify to the owner's own specifications. Customized Kathols hold a number of Galactic performance records for the courier category.

LEGALITY
Legal. Kathol-class skiffs are considered innocuous enough under most jurisdictions, and can be registered without undue fuss.

INTENT
To create a standard type of courier ship used by everyone.

ADVANCED TECH
No. Kathol-class skiffs are reasonably common throughout the Galaxy, and are fairly easy to buy, steal or otherwise acquire.

X/V BAGAUDAE

AFFILIATION
Various.

MANUFACTURER
Haard & Koure Extreme Solutions.

CLASS
Starfighter.

ROLE
Strike starfighter.

COMPOSITION
Durasteel and transparisteel.

DIMENSIONS
Length - 14 meters.

CREW
1 pilot.

PASSENGER CAPACITY
N/A.

CARGO CAPACITY
50 kilograms.

HANGAR CAPACITY
N/A.

CONSUMABLES
8 standard days.

SPEED/MANEUVERABILITY
An X/V Bagaudae can reach 100 MGLT maximum speed and has decent maneuvering characteristics.

ARMAMENT

EQUIPMENT

DESCRIPTION
The X/V Bagaudae is a strike starfighter produced by Haard & Koure Extreme Solutions, a weapons manufacturing firm with a flair for aggressive-looking designs and edgy branding. Named for a bandit tribe that plagued the frontiers of the pre-Darkness Republic, the Bagaudae is marketed primarily to elite military units, mercenaries and adventurers, although of course it has become a status symbol among various outlaw groups as well.

The Bagaudae is a single-seat design, with a relatively roomy and well-appointed cockpit to give the pilot some extra comfort on long-duration missions. It is equipped with a quartet of light laser cannons for armament, as well as a concussion missile launcher with a capacity of 4 missiles. Though not shielded, it is of sturdy durasteel construction, and has a reputation for being able to take a fair amount of punishment. It also has a class 2 hyperdrive, giving it interstellar range, as well as the ability to run from foes it can't handle.

The Bagaudae is reasonably popular Outer Rim, though it is used primarily by its intended market, with few militaries or law enforcement agencies making it their standard machine, though it has found a niche with special forces, who tend to have a little more freedom to pick their own equipment. It is far more common among independent mercenaries and private security companies, who appreciate its aggressive looks, good for showing off to potential customers. Pirates and other outlaws make use of it themselves, with higher-ranking and aspirational criminals flying it to stand out.

LEGALITY
Restricted. Without proper licensing and/or bribes/connections, X/V Bagaudae are legal only for recognized military and paramilitary groups.

INTENT
To create another standard strike starfighter, this time with attitude. Sort of the "bad guy" equivalent to the S-25 skirmisher.

ADVANCED TECH
No. X/V Bagaudae are reasonably common, although being legally restricted makes them non-trivial for the average individual to own.

ROLE
Medium cargo transport.

COMPOSITION
Durasteel and transparisteel.

DIMENSIONS
Length - 60 meters.

CREW
2 minimum, 4 optimum.

PASSENGER CAPACITY
21.

CARGO CAPACITY
100 standard tons.

SPEED/MANEUVERABILITY
An Itinerant-class freighter can reach 40 MGLT maximum speed and has average maneuvering characteristics.

ARMAMENT

EQUIPMENT

DESCRIPTION
The Itinerant-class freighter is a medium cargo transport produced by Trivault Corp. As an intermediate between light and bulk freighters, it helps fill an important niche in the Galactic shipping ecosystem, and has become reasonably common on the star-lanes.

The Itinerant is 60 meters in length, and can carry a respectable 100 standard tons of cargo. It has a crew of 4, including a pilot, co-pilot, gunner and engineer, although in most situations only the pilot and co-pilot are necessary. In addition, the ship can carry up to 21 passengers. Top speed is 40 MGLT, somewhat sluggish, and defense is handled by medium shields and a single dorsal laser turret.

The Itinerant is most commonly found in the service of shipping companies as part of fleets, although more than a few independent spacers fly them as well. Their larger size and slower speed does not make them as common in certain illicit trades, but some smugglers still use them. They are also a favored mark of pirates, as their light armament does not present much of a challenge for them, and thus Itinerants traveling through high-risk areas of the Galaxy will often do so as part of a convoy, and/or with appropriate armed escort.

LEGALITY
Legal. Itinerant-class freighters are considered innocuous enough under most jurisdictions, and can be registered without undue fuss.

INTENT
To create a standard type of medium freighter used by everyone.

ADVANCED TECH
No. Itinerant-class freighters are common throughout the Galaxy, and are fairly easy to buy, steal or otherwise acquire.

TI-9 HARPOON

AFFILIATION
Various.

MANUFACTURER
Tolt Industries.

CLASS
Heavy starfighter.

ROLE
Heavy interceptor.

COMPOSITION
Alusteel and transparisteel.

DIMENSIONS
Length - 16 meters.

CREW
1 pilot, 1 co-pilot.

PASSENGER CAPACITY
N/A.

CARGO CAPACITY
100 kilograms.

HANGAR CAPACITY
N/A.

CONSUMABLES
5 standard days.

SPEED/MANEUVERABILITY
A TI-9 Harpoon can reach 90 MGLT maximum speed and has average maneuvering characteristics.

ARMAMENT
  • 2x light laser cannon.
  • 4x proton torpedo launcher, 4 torpedo capacity each.

EQUIPMENT

DESCRIPTION
The TI-9 Harpoon is a heavy interceptor manufactured by Tolt Industries and sold as a sort of "blockade breaker," meant to intercept capital ships in orbit above a planet. It occupies an unusual niche in the starfighter ecosystem.

Unlike most contemporary fighters, which are armed primarily with cannons, the Harpoon is armed mainly with a quartet of proton torpedo launchers, each capable of 4 shots for a total of 16. This is supplemented by a pair of light laser cannons, although the Harpoon is not really intended to use them except when its torpedoes have been expended. The main mission of the Harpoon is to attack large, slow-moving targets; its main targeting systems are not optimized for anything smaller than a light freighter. The laser cannons, using their own independent targeting computer, are much less powerful, but more accurate.

The Harpoon has a crew of 2, including a pilot and a co-pilot/gunner. The pilot flies the ship and operates the laser cannons, while the co-pilot is responsible for navigation, and for operating the torpedo launchers. Standard tactics for the Harpoon are to set up a bomber-style attack run on a large target, relying on allied starfighters to clear a path. The Harpoon itself, while heavily armed, is a poor nekfighter, capable of a respectable 90 MGLT but only average maneuverability, depending on its ability to launch its payload from standoff range and then bolt for safety. The ship does have a hyperdrive, but it is only class 6.

The Harpoon is mainly employed by local defense forces, who primarily use it as a means to break planetary blockades and sieges. Its limited targeting system has cut down its versatility somewhat, although some forces also use it as a fast ground attack bomber, with middling results.

LEGALITY
Restricted. Without proper licensing and/or bribes/connections, TI-9 Harpoons are legal only for recognized military and paramilitary groups.

INTENT
To create a heavy, torpedo-armed interceptor.

ADVANCED TECH
Yes. TI-9 Harpoons are not trivial to buy, steal or otherwise acquire, and it would take a plot of at least 2 threads to do so.

GH-4 HEAVY FREIGHTER

AFFILIATION
Various.

MANUFACTURER
Gallofree Yards, Inc.

CLASS
Bulk freighter.

ROLE
Heavy cargo transport.

COMPOSITION
Durasteel and transparisteel.

DIMENSIONS
Length - 120 meters.

CREW
4 minimum, 12 optimum.

PASSENGER CAPACITY
36.

CARGO CAPACITY
1 kiloton.

HANGAR CAPACITY
1x shuttle or 2x starfighter.

CONSUMABLES
2 standard months.

SPEED/MANEUVERABILITY
A GH-4 heavy freighter can reach 30 MGLT maximum speed and has sluggish maneuvering characteristics.

ARMAMENT

EQUIPMENT

DESCRIPTION
The GH-4 heavy freighter is a bulk cargo transport manufactured by Gallofree Yards, a relatively new player in the Galactic starship market. Huge and generic, the GH-4 has nevertheless gotten Gallofree off to a good start, being a solid seller with fleet customers.

The GH-4 can carry up to 1,000 standard tons - 1 kiloton - of cargo in its cavernous holds, which can be reconfigured as necessary with movable partitions and other features to accommodate bulky and otherwise unusual loads. The ship has a crew of 12, and can carry up to 36 passengers as well, albeit with typically spartan accommodations. For defense, the ship has a pair of single laser turrets mounted port and starboard, in addition to relatively weak shields. Performance is also somewhat poor, 30 MGLT maximum speed coupled with a class 8 hyperdrive, but this is about average for most bulk freighters.

Notably, the GH-4 is equipped with a small hangar bay, capable of accommodating a single shuttle. This can be used to ferry crew and cargo to and from the surface of a planet which does not have landing facilities large enough to accommodate ships as large as a GH-4. In a pinch, 2 starfighters can be substituted for the shuttle, although launch and recovery of starfighters is considered difficult and awkward from the small hangar.

The GH-4 is one of Gallofree's more popular products, although it has a reputation for being pirate bait. The ship's weak shields and light armament, not to mention sluggish performance, no doubt make it a tempting target for outlaws and raiders. Gallofree, of course, is quick to point out that the GH-4 is statistically no more or less at risk from pirate attack than a score of similarly specced bulk freighters from other manufacturers. As a result, GH-4s and other bulk freighters often travel in large convoy formations, often with armed escorts.

LEGALITY
Legal. GH-4 heavy freighters are considered innocuous enough under most jurisdictions, and can be registered without undue fuss.

INTENT
To create a standard type of bulk freighter used by everyone.

ADVANCED TECH
Yes. GH-4 heavy freighters are common enough throughout the Galaxy, but their size and cargo capacity make them more difficult to license, not to mention their upkeep and crew requirements make them more expensive to own and operate. A plot of at least 1 thread is required to get hold of one.

BEREX-CLASS CARRIER

AFFILIATION
Various.

MANUFACTURER
Domel-Berger Yards

CLASS
Cruiser.

ROLE
Carrier.

COMPOSITION
Durasteel and transparisteel.

DIMENSIONS
Length - 500 meters.

CREW
60 minimum, 300 optimum.

PASSENGER CAPACITY
600.

CARGO CAPACITY
800 standard tons.

HANGAR CAPACITY
72x starfighter, 24x shuttle.

CONSUMABLES
6 standard months.

SPEED/MANEUVERABILITY
A Berex-class carrier can reach 30 MGLT maximum speed and has sluggish maneuvering characteristics.

ARMAMENT

EQUIPMENT
  • 12x docking ring with integrated docking tube and hull-cutting tools.
  • 2x heavy deflector screen generator, 1x primary, 1x backup.
  • 1x aerospace traffic control suite.
  • 1x long-range sensor suite.
  • 1x long-range communication suite.
  • 1x full-featured medical suite.
  • 2x onboard machine shop.
  • 2x navicomputer, 1x primary, 1x backup.
  • 2x hyperdrive, 1x class 4 primary, 1x class 10 backup.
  • Many escape pods.

DESCRIPTION
The Berex-class carrier is a warship produced by the venerable Domel-Berger Yards, a well-regarded manufacturer of primarily large capital ships for various military customers across the Galaxy. Although DBY became famous for its heavily armed, thickly armored corvettes, frigates and cruisers, its carrier designs have also carved out a good reputation for themselves, the Berex included.

The Berex-class carrier, unlike "proper" warships, is a fairly lightly armed and armored design, with only a durasteel hull and 10 defensive laser turrets, though it does have respectable shields. It is slow, only capable of 30 MGLT, and sluggish to maneuver, but like all carriers its main strength is not what it can do alone, but its payload.

The Berex can carry up to 96 small craft, including 72 starfighters - 6 whole squadrons - and 24 shuttles or other, similarly sized craft. In addition, 12 external docking rings can accommodate as many vessels attached to the ship's hull. Serving these vessels is a crew of 300, including bridge crew, supply personnel, technicians, flight controllers and others, and not including things like air crews, who are typically carried as passengers.

The Berex has a single, cavernous hangar, running the length of the ship and open at both ends; ships are typically parked along the edges, with the center space reserved for staging takeoffs and landings. The carrier has extensive facilities to refuel, resupply, maintain and repair its complement, including 2 machine shops which can recondition and even fabricate replacement components for a variety of starships, the latter being of course short of major systems such as hyperdrive cores and entire spacecraft from scratch, although with sufficient suitable components they have been known to pull off miracles. The Berex is also equipped with extensive facilities to support its organic charges as well; an extensive medical suite is available, more comprehensive than is typically found on most warships, along with recreational facilities to alleviate tension and boredom on long deployments.

The Berex-class carrier, like most such vessels, is not intended to operate as an independent element, usually receiving at least a few escorts if it is not actually part of a fleet. Due to its relative vulnerability, it uses its starfighters and other craft as its main "armament," sitting back at long range while the vessels it supports get stuck in with the enemy. In return, it supports them as a mobile base of operations. Carriers are often used to augment a fleet's starfighter cover, often enabling aerospace superiority even in engagements far from the support of land-based fighters.

LEGALITY
Restricted. Berex-class carriers are considered capital warships, generally making them illegal for civilian ownership.

INTENT
To create a standard type of carrier used by everyone.

ADVANCED TECH
Yes. Berex-class carriers are not trivial to buy, steal or otherwise acquire, and it would take a plot of at least 3 threads to do so.
