I liked it. Nothing groundbreaking, but solid performances by the actors, and an all-round enjoyable adventure film. I really enjoyed Paul Bettany's performance as Dryden Vos, too.

I enjoyed this movie a lot more than I expected. I definitely didn't think the trailers did it justice (I was extremely "meh" about it after seeing the trailers) but was pleasantly surprised. I liked seeing the "street level" Star Wars universe and the crime side of things that we have had glimpses of in the other movies but never really delved into. Rogue One offered glimpses of the "soldier life" that was somewhat everyday life, but I thought this captured it even better.

As for the performances, I was also pretty impressed. I liked all the new characters introduced, and I think my biggest hat goes off to Donald Glover who I thought did a really good job of capturing a young Lando.

Overall I really enjoyed this movie and they also baited me into wanting to learn more about what happens with Qi'ra and Maul in whatever upcoming media they release (both after the Solo movie and whatever Qi'ra did for the 3 timeskip).

The trailers did not do this movie anything other then tell us there is a movie about a young Han Solo.

That said, this was the most fun Star Wars prequel we've had. I really enjoyed it and all the characters, old and new. Donald Glover nailed it as Lando. Loved all the smaller references too, including a few nods to "The Clone Wars" and it's nice to see some older references too. Calling it right now, that Mandalorian helmet/display piece in Vos's office has to be foreshadowing to Boba Fett... just like Maul in this was foreshadowing a "Kenobi" movie.

Worst part about this movie... was it made me want more.

In terms of the Prequels...
Solo
Rogue One
The Phantom Menace
Revenge of the Sith
Attack of the Clones

Suprise suprise, but I really liked the movie.

Sure, the acting was not all that great in places, but at the same time, the actors must have been very much aware that the second they did anything that Billie or Harrison did, they would have been called out for 'copy-catting' other actors. (Still, Emilia Clarke could have been better).

Dryden Vos was an excellent villain in my opinion, and Beckett made the movie.

A few stand out moments for me -

  • @Brandon Rhea in the opening scene was sublime.
  • How Han got his name.
  • HE'S NOT WORTH IT.
  • The Kessel Run.
  • The musical score. Not sure how many people noticed, but the 'Falcon Theme' was only teased throughout the film, the only time it was played in full was when Chewie took 'his' seat next to Han - a fantastic use of the theme, and some great writing.

He's gonna give Andy Serkis and Doug Jones a run for their money at this rate.

If they DIDN'T put the Kessel Run in, that'd make me sad.

L3 was sometimes cool, too.

I liked seeing the scum troops that didn't do well enough to be troopers or pilots. It shows me there is still hope for me in the world.

L3 was cool. Donald Glover as Lando is everything I wanted and more. I love him.

It really set Han up as a bad guy who does good things. The original movies really did a good job of showing him as scum, but they made Greedo shoot first to tone down Han. This is a throwback for sure to showing us that Han isn't the pure hero nor is he a villain. It's hard for a movie to truly show character development but I think they did a great job with the subtle details that make Han who he is supposed to be.

Ok nerd rant over. Good movie.
