The Syndicate slave ship Ossiferous was a mostly flat vessel painted a light shade of green; which mean it blended in quite well with the grassy plains that made up Sullust's moon Sulon. In fact, if one did not know it was a slaving ship, one could easily get the impression that this ship was nothing more than the mining ship that its outer appearance suggested; there were men loading up cargo into the hold and numerous beings held pickaxes, crowbars, and explosives; all common mining equipment.

But Drow knew the truth.

His contacts had provided him with the name and look of the ship so he knew what to look for. The miners? Nothing more than glorified thugs brought in to keep order amongst their slaves. The instruments they carried? Nonlethal weapons and shock tactics designed to keep their subjugated population in line. And the mining ship itself was chosen no doubt because it looked innocuous enough to avoid inspection but its ample cargo hold allowed plenty of sentient cargo to be stored there...as long as you were morally bankrupt enough to put human beings in boxes.

And these slavers certainly were that.

It was hard finding cover in a grassy plain but Drow had found a small cluster of hills nearby that worked well enough to conceal him and his travelling partner Zad. The Sector Ranger and he had come to this moon ostensibly to stop slavers. That was priority number one. But there were two more purposes to this mission. The second was to make this attack look like it had come from the Sith; thereby creating a division between the two evil factions. Thirdly was to strip this ship down of its shield generator and laser cannons and bring them back to the Jedi Temple on Yavin to be integrated into its defense grid system. Zad didn't exactly know the fine details of that last part but he had agreed to let the Ishi Tib Jedi Master strip the ship down of those components during their first meeting. For his part, that same Ishi Tib Jedi Master was dressed completely in black; with head wraps to further obscure his identity. His face was so covered that one couldn't even tell he was an Ishi Tib. In his opinion, he nailed this costuming job; he looked very Sith-y and the red lightsaber at his belt would surely help sell the illusion further.

"Alright, I can start approaching them if you want to use the repeater to thin out the crowd outside. Once they're dealt with, we can enter the ship, kill any who are left, and free the slaves. But let's make sure to wait until they finish loading the last of the boxes into the hold before we strike. Don't want any slaves caught in the crossfire." Drow told Zad his plan, gesturing to a repeater that Drow had in his posession after a previous adventure. He was fine lending it to Zad; he trusted the man's aim and he felt it'd be a powerful weapon to make this mission easier. But he was also curious to hear the Human's thoughts on the plan.

The slavers sure did look like miners. Zad might have mistaken them for as much even right there and then, had he not have done his homework to confirm that the targets they were after were targets who deserved what was coming their way.

Zad liked Drow. He was a cool Jedi. Still, Zad relied on his own team and his own self to validate this operation insofar as making sure he wasn’t about to kill a bunch of miners.

Thin out the crowd. Enter the ship. Kill any who are left. Those were very un-Jedi things to say and very Sithy. Freeing the slaves, however, was much more Jedi and much more Ranger.

All in all, this was a perfect package and Zad Ruzed looked the part. In his Sith Trooper getup, he looked like some kind of bodyguard to the more traditional Sith beside him, or maybe it was the other around?

“Sounds like a plan.” ‘A plan’ is exactly what it sounded like and that was good enough. He kept in cover beside his partner, performing last minute checks on his person.

The armor was snug enough, a little too tight around the crotch; his rifle was locked and loaded as was his pistol; and he had a full pack of smokes and whiskey flask to boot. As ready as I’ll ever be.

“That repeater does look pretty spiffy.” It had range, power, speed and ammo. As ready as it’ll ever be. “You know...I should have some reservations about what I’m about to do…” He sighed; there ought to have been smoke with that sigh but it would have given them away. “I don’t.”

The Sith, the Syndicates—they were scum. Zad was tired of the tallies that were totaling up the corpses of Rangers and Jedi alike. It was time to get rough and tumble. Corran was a good man but too much of a good man meant no longer thinking like a bad man in order to catch the bad guys.

On the verge of philosophy, Zad freed his mind and nodded. “Might be spur of the moment but it might be worthwhile to see if you can infiltrate the ship itself. A Sith looking to buy slaves? Get on the inside, get into position, signal my way and I’ll be posted here ready to open fire.” He shrugged. “Eh, it’s an idea.”

"I like that idea." Drow said, pointing at Zad when the man suggested infiltrating the ship itself. It would mean he'd be able to get a better count as to how many people were inside the actual ship and would establish his identity as a Sith better. He only hoped that his acting skills were up for the task.

"Just remember - we have to leave at least one alive to escape and tell the Five Syndicates about what happened here." Drow cautioned before nodding and making his way down, trusting Zad to know when the right time to strike would be in case the Ishi Tib was unable to signal his Ranger partner. With a mighty, Force-assisted leap, Drow jumped from the hill to land on the grassy plains, walking confidently forward. From his experience with Sith, they tended to act like they owned the place so he incorporated that into his gait as he walked towards the slave ship.

With black clothes standing out in contrast to the greens and blues that made up this prairie, it didn't take long for the Syndicate slavers to stop what they were doing and take notice. A couple of Pykes walked their way over to the approaching Drow, hands on their blasters but not unholstering them just yet. The rest of them continued to load boxes into the ship.

"Bit out of the way for a stranger to be walking around alone, isn't it?" the first Pyke asked Drow as they met. The Ishi Tib audibly scoffed from underneath his headwraps.

"A Sith doesn't have to justify themselves to worms, Pyke. Where is your merchandise - I wish to inspect them myself." Drow demanded. The two Pykes looked at each other confused.

"Sith? Forgive us my Lord but we're confused."

"Your contract was to deliver a shipment of slaves to the Sith on Sullust, yes?"

"Well y-yes but we'd heard the Sith had been chased out of Sullust. With the rebellion and all, we'd figured we'd jump elsewhere and unload the merchandise there."

"You figured incorrectly. The Sith still control Sullust; the Jedi just temporarily inconvenienced us. The transaction will continue as planned. I shall be purchasing your entire stock." Drow stated definitively. The Pykes looked at one another again. One buyer was as good as the other, they supposed and this one happened to be standing right in front of them.

"Well, we've loaded most of the merchandise onboard but this one crate is still out if you'd like to take a look." the second Pyke said, gesturing to the one lone crate that still remained. Nodding to a nearby Nikto, the crate was opened and two very scared looking Heptooinians were revealed. Drow looked at the pair sympathetically from underneath his head coverings. Slavery had always been something that infuriated him and made him think very un-Jedi like thoughts. Why, these two couldn't have been older than what? Eighteen? Nineteen? It made him all the more comfortable with the idea of not taking any prisoners on this operation.

"These two look sickly. We need workers for mines, not dead weight. Release them and order them to run to that hill and back. I want to test their athleticism. That shall determine the price I pay." Drow demanded.

"They've been in crates the past week! They're hardly going to be as fit as-" one of the Pykes began before a Force Push silenced him by slamming him into the side of the ship.

"I don't repeat myself." Drow said simply. The remaining slavers shrugged and undid the restraints of the two Heptooinian slaves and ordered them to run to the hill and back. Drow was confident that Zad would know what to do once the two ran to him.

"Show me the rest of the stock." Drow ordered, spining around on his feet as he was led by the two Pykes to the ship's interior.

Slavers. The hateful side of the coin that Taldorak worked for. He had been raised to fight slavers and as such, he carried on his upbringing. The Pykes, though Crymorah adjacent, were a threat. So, he donned his all black beskar with the white Mythosaur skull emblazoned on the helm.

Learning of this ship was easy enough via Syndicate channels. He had used the credits from recent bounties and missions to purchase a second Kom'rk Class ship, just for such ops. He'd brought several of his own men with him to attack the operation and so all that remained was to spring the trap.

"Boss, I see black down there."

"Hmm... Could be a Sith.. open up on the ship and open the blast doors."
Tal would order. The man nodded and the ramp would open by the time Tal reached it. Once they were over the ship, he'd leap down, timing his landing with a burst from his jet boots to slow his fall.

The plan was simple: Free the slaves, blame the Hutts. Once both sides were weak, the Crymorah could make moves to remove both from the board.

As he got situated, his ship would engage the mining ship, with Tal moving double time to engage some of the Pykes on the ground.

Hugo Aver was in a box.

More specifically, he was in a crate - not that "Hugo" (who was, in reality, an outlaw named Haro Tyche) cared about semantics at the current moment. After all, he was in a box... or crate, whatever. The only thing that was on his mind was, therefore, escaping the box. Or was it a crate?

Was he going insane?

Aside from that, Hugo actually had a few things going his way. His crate-mate had died the other day - which was sad, of course - but it left Hugo with significantly more legroom than he'd had before. It had definitely been one of the more convenient deaths of the past few weeks. If only the Pykes that had cornered him on Nar Shaddaa could've dropped dead...

But then Hugo heard voices. There were the Pykes, of course, but there was someone else there too. Whoever he was, he spoke with the callous arrogance of someone who had power, and judging by how the slavers acquiesced his every demand, something big was happening. The tiny gears in Hugo's head began to turn. He heard the man command the slavers to release two of their captives, and have them do some sort of fitness inspection - the details were muddy, given that Hugo's crate was onboard the ship and some distance away from the conversation.

Quite frankly, the details never mattered to Hugo. Maybe that's why he'd ended up where he was.

"Hey, over here! Cream of the crop slave right here!" Hugo banged his fist against the side of the crate, hoping to draw the powerful stranger's attention to himself. "I'm amazing at this whole slavery thing, just lemme out and I'll prove it."

If by some miracle his performance worked, and he was let out of his box... well, Hugo didn't really have a plan after that. Hopefully things would just... go his way. Hugo quickly slipped the durasteel shank he'd crafted into his raggedy clothes. If things didn't go his way... he'd have to find his own way. One step at a time.

Zad stayed low as he watched the scene unfold through the scope of his rifle. The repeater was nestled safely beside him but he would not need to use it yet. From the looks of things, Drow was playing his part well enough to not have been shot as he approached the Pykes.

The Jedi definitely had the poise and appearance of a dark sider. Wonder if he’s at least getting a kick out of playing the bad guy? Jedi’s sworn nemesis, more like.

Zad smiled at his partner’s little trick which was freeing two slaves to run right toward their savior. He gave his crosshairs to one slave. "Boom." Another slave. "Boom." But I don’t mean bolts. I mean bolting you to your booming freedom or...something.

“Psssst!” The Ranger called out as the two slaves reached his spot. “Don’t look.” He waved. “Howdy. Sector Ranger Zad Ruzed, at your service. You’re taking a breather...and break’s over. Get down and keep quiet!”

Turned out there was a third party to this party and by the looks of the figure it was a Mandalorian. Great. Those guys are always fun. But that was just one figure of two. There was a bigger figure and it came in the form of a ship. Shit.

A barrage of blaster bolts lit up the area around the slave ship. The slavers were aiming for their newest guests and that meant anyone but Zad and Drow. Oh well. Guess that’s my cue to join the party!

With that, the Ranger traded rifle for repeater, took to a knee, pulled the lever and kicked off.

Bolts burst forward to soar down the hill, absolutely shredding any slaver who was not behind cover. Some of that cover included crates and Zad did not want to gamble with shooting through them at any slaves locked inside.

For now, he had a good vantage and a good advantage. He had just introduced himself to anyone with eyes to see but for all anyone knew he was working with Mr. Mando and the Sith could be totally unaffiliated.

"Sector Rangers? I thought that guy was Sith!" one of the slaves gasped out, still out of breath from running all this distance. His companion just told him to shut up, stay down, and keep quiet. Fortunately, as those two were the last of the slaves yet to be loaded, Zad didn't really have to worry about hitting any others. Drow hoped at least the Sector Ranger would keep his fire away from his own person but, given that it was a repeater, accuracy wasn't necessarily something to write home about.

Zad was right about something; for all anyone knew, this attack could have been coming from solely the Mandalorian and Drow's Sith character could have nothing to do with it. That was unacceptable to Drow. The whole point of this operation was to drive a wedge between the Sith and the Syndicates and this stupid Mando was ruining it. It was time for action.

"This is what happens to those who don't honor their agreements with the Sith!" Drow shouted, plunging his pilfered red lightsaber into one of the Pykes. Hopefully, that was loud and dramatic enough to for anyone around to assume that this whole thing was orchestrated by the Sith. Frankly, Drow wasn't sure who the hell was behind this thing but he figured he'd cross that bridge when he got to it.

All around him, Syndicate slavers were dying; either cut down by Zad's repeater fire or from Taldorak. That left Drow in the unique position of not being worried about his own safety but rather, being worried about the safety of his enemies. If there wasn't someone alive left to tell the tale to the other Syndicates then this whole venture would have been for nought. There was currently one Pyke fleeing; the second one who had been about to escort Drow to the door. The Pyke was currently making a break for it and Drow saw an opportunity. He sent a Force Push towards the Mandalorian's way. It would unbalance him slightly - enough for the two remaining combatants on the field to rush at him with their pickaxes and vibroblades. Judging from the Mandalorian's armor and ferocity, Drow doubted whether the two would succeed but he knew they'd give him enough trouble for the Pyke to make his escape.

For his part, Drow would run into the ship to see if there were any slavers left and to survey the scope of the environment. As he did so, the ship rocked with the impact of the Mandalorian's ship's fire. This impact would knock over the crate of one Hugo Aver and set him free.

"Boss, we're giving them a spanking." would come one of his peoples voices over the comm. "Pretty sure that thing is crippled with minimal casualties. How's it down there?"

Tal cursed as repeater fire started to tear into the slavers. "Everything is just sporty down here!" he yelled into the comm, leaping from his perch to drive a dagger into a mans jugular. His attention would be grabbed by the Sith attacking the Pyke. "Holy kriff.. I guess Preef got them on the bankroll too.. osik.." he rolled, and leveled his blaster, shooting another between the eyes.

He'd quickly notice that between the three of them, they were doing some real damage. Soon there would be nobody left to kill!! So as he turned to secure at least one survivor, he'd feel the loving embrace of a force push, temporarily knocking him over. "Kriffing Force osik.." he'd growl as he rolled, recovering to a crouch, one bracer caught the vibroblade while he emptied the rest of the peacemakers cell into Pickaxes chest. He'd then proceed to break vb's arm with a concise pistol whip, before flipping him onto his back. "Go back to your Masters and tell them that Durr the Hutt sends his regards. These slaves will keep us afloat." he'd then shove the scum away, kicking his rear.

Tal would laugh as the man stumbled over himself as he ran, nursing his damaged arm. Gods it was good to set some people up. "Now.. Time to kill a Sith and free these slaves.. Well, see what this Sith is about.."

Just as Hugo placed his head against the side of the crate to eavesdrop, the deafening noise of blaster-fire rocked his surroundings. First there was something heavy and thump-y, like a starship's laser cannons, followed by what sounded like a repeater. Hugo recognized that sound from a holo-drama. But then he heard something that sent chills running down his body: the unmistakable hiss of a lightsaber sliding through flesh, with the words, "This is what happens to those who don't honor their agreements with the Sith!" cutting through the melee.

Hugo may have been an idiot, but he wasn't stupid. Even though he'd never met a Sith, he knew better than to risk attracting their attention. When a stray blast knocked his crate from its mount and sent him sprawling on the floor, the outlaw didn't hesitate to scramble over towards cover (in the form of a nearby Pyke corpse, still smoldering from a blaster bolt). Keeping a low profile, Hugo crouched down and rummaged through its belongings, withdrawing a security spike from its utility pouch and a blaster sidearm from its hip, with a spare power cell that had been stored in its pocket. Perfect. "Thanks buddy." He joked to the corpse.

Having looted his plunder, Hugo took a brief moment to take in his surroundings. The Sith made for a distinctive figure, brandishing their crimson blade as it smoldered in the air, but equally interesting was the presence of a Mandalorian. There was no sign of the third shooter, but Hugo knew that there was one positioned somewhere nearby. He didn't hallucinate those repeater bolts. But what were a Sith, a Mandalorian, and a gunman doing slaughtering Pykes and freeing slaves? Was this some kind of... test? The Sith were never known for being great emancipators.

Regardless of their intent, Hugo recognized he was out of his depth. Massively so. And until he figured out why they were there, he'd be risking certain death by running out into the open alone. He had to think quickly. The goal was to get out of the ship before another round of blaster-fire damaged it further, and from there, to get the hell off the planet. And he'd do that by creating a diversion.

With an idea forming in his mind, Hugo stood up and cautiously moved towards the back of the ship. He'd been enslaved with dozens of other beings, and it was only fair that they were given a shot freedom. He may have been selfish at times, but he couldn't allow these people to be sold into slavery if he could help it. Using the security spike as a key, he deactivated the seals on the crates and helped pull the more worn and battered slaves out of their prisons. They were still cuffed, but there wasn't much he could do about that at the moment.

A pair of slaves towards the front didn't hesitate to rush towards the exit, but Hugo stepped in their path before they could escape. "I need you all to stay behind me." He instructed them, with more conviction than he thought he could muster. To make his point further, he withdrew the blaster pistol from his waistband and brandished it in the air, before gesturing for them to follow him out of the ship and onto the pad. "Trust me - I know what I'm doing."

He didn't.

The repeater was as beautiful as the Ranger had expected. It was like a cannon as it barraged the ground, tearing chunks out of it as well as its targets, with slavers of all sorts getting riddled like ragdolls before they collapsed into heaps of nothing.

The Mandalorian and his vessel were only helping at this point. If the objective was to kill all of these slavers then they were succeeding. Except there was another goal. It was the very goal that had made Zad agree to go along with this shindig in the first place. They needed at least one Syndicate member alive to tell the tale of what the Sith had done here.

“What’s your status!?” Zad called toward Drow into his helmet’s comlink. Neither could see one another since one was in the ship and the other outside of it. “I’m lightning up a storm out here! Slavers are—hang on.”

A streak of red soared his way. He ducked his head. Sniper. Swiveling his big gun, Zad pew-pew-pew-pewed! toward an adjacent hill. The sniper was suppressed but not eliminated. That sniper would yet not dare reveal himself for another shot in fear of getting shot apart. That was good and bad.

Focusing on the sniper would break Zad’s focus of everywhere else. Gotta act fast. So he rolled away from the repeater and went prone, plugging his eye to the scope of his rifle. The sniper waited, readied his rifle, focused on the repeater...saw nothing. Boom.

A bolt plugged into the sniper’s shoulder, ripping the rifle from his grip and rolling him onto his back where he wreathed. “As I was saying,” Zad chimed back over comm. “I’ve got a slaver who just got shot by a Sith Trooper and will survive to tell about it. How are you?”

Drow almost beheaded Hugo when he saw the young man come out but when he saw his haggard appearance and weaponlessness, he figured this must have been one of the slaves. The fact that Hugo soon looted a corpse further confirmed his suspicions. The young man confused him further by running back into the ship he'd just came from. The Ishi Tib Jedi just decided to let it be and stopped trying to enter the slaver's ship. The fact that a slave was able to make a break for it from inside of it and the fact it hadn't yet taken off or activated its shield meant that there must not have been any slavers left onboard.

That left the Mandalorian to deal with. The slavers had all been wiped out either from Drow's saber, the Mandalorian's blades or Zad's firing except for the three slavers that had been sent running by the trio. The slaver's converted mining ship had several new scorch marks in it and looked like it'd need some new repairs before it'd be able to take off again. Drow hoped that the shield generator and cannons would still be intact though.

"Nice shooting, Zad. Keep your gun on the Mando if things go south." Drow said softly into his commlink before approaching the Mandalorian gingerly.

"Seems like we might have the same enemy." Drow said, gesturing to the mass of corpses that littered the grassy plains. "Can we talk about it?"

The Ishi Tib kept his saber in a Soresu defensive position, ready to start deflecting if the Mandalorian didn't actually want to speak and started blasting, Drow would defend himself. Around this time, Hugo and the mass of slaves would be coming out of the ship, the freed men and women following Hugo, albeit reluctantly and with a lot of grumbling about who put him in charge.

Tal would look back the way of the Sith and hop down to an equal level as they approached, sheathing his dagger and holstering his peacemaker, his arms would cross as they rested atop his slung DC-17x rifle, though it was more casual, then threatening.

Out somewhere this open, the Sith would have the advantage, so he'd roll the dice and see what this Lord of the Sith wanted to talk about. "We can, you can go first." His visor would scan their surroundings, repeater fire was hard to miss and so he'd step around the Sith to where the Lord would be between him and the repeater.

He hadn't known Zad had moved from his original spot. Then the slaves started to pour out and Tal activated his comm. "Land the ship so we can board the slaves and get outta here."

"First of all, I'd love to know what brings a Mandalorian to attack a Syndicates ship. I know why I did but what brings you here? It can't be the view." Drow expressed, narrowing his eyes underneath his head coverings . This Mandalorian could either be a great asset to their plans or a huge hindrance. Either way, Drow didn't relish the thought of fighting one of them - he'd heard the stories and had remembered seeing them in action during his mercenary days.

"My Clan frees slaves. Even amongst the Aruetii, here I am, freeing slaves." It was definitely a truth, and Drow could actually hear the conviction in the Mandalorians voice. "So then it's my turn to ask you, Sith. Why are you attacking a Syndicate ship? They mess up a deal? Not bow? As far as I can remember, liberation isn't your kinds cup of caf." He rolled his shoulders and straightened his stance a bit. It was never a good idea to be wholly unprepared for a fight, especially with a dark wizard. "Deactivate your lightsaber so we can speak on even ground. All my weapons are away.. and we both know the glow stick isn't your best weapon."

OOC: Way late on my end. Apologies

Drow stood surveying the Mandalorian, weighing his words carefully. The Mandos were not one to step away from fights and tended to disparage sneak attacks as a whole. If this man wanted to keep fighting, he would have done so already. Drow deactivated his saber and approached gingerly.

"Fair enough. I heard you mention the Hutts earlier when you were attacking. I'm going to go ahead and guess the Hutts didn't actually send you here because liberation's not really their thing either. I'm thinking this is a frame-up job on your end. If it is, you and me may have more in common than you think." Drow said.

"Just answer me this - would this frameup on your end be just as beneficial if the Sith were the ones accused instead of the Hutts?"

"Frame up job? So that either makes you a Jetii or really capable with glowsticks." Tal would say. Well, it wasn't the worse thing. So it could be worked out as long as he kept the Crymorah from joining in. Let the other syndicates weaken themselves. "I'm no oathbreaker. Keep it from blowing back on the Crymorah and you have a deal. Target them, and the jig is up."

"Crymorah huh?" Drow asked. "Well, I won't tell you my identity and you don't have to tell me yours. But if you're willing to tell your Syndicate pals that this was the Sith, I don't think we have any reason to fight. But I need your word as a Mandalorian."

Drow knew that, with some exceptions, the word of a Mandalorian could be trusted as they held stock in things like honor and reputation. Really, it was a shame that they and the Jedi had a...rocky relationship in the past. There were some exceptions, of course, and a few select Jedi were even friends of the Mandalorians. But the Ishi Tib felt as though the two of them could really make the galaxy a better place, provided the Mandos shuck that annoying habit of conquering people they had.

Assuming Taldorak agreed, Drow would begin stripping the ship of its cannons and shield generator, as he and Zad had agreed on. He'd direct the slaves to Zad to begin getting them resources, unchained, and taken care of now that they were liberated. This would hopefully be a thorn in the side of both the Syndicates and the Sith and Drow felt they'd done some good work despite the mess.
