The Citadel
Imperial Base of Operations on Serenno
|
The Citadel is a fortress base on Serenno finalized and provided by the local military for Countess and Queen Andraste. A former mining complex in the steep mountains of the Aedu Wastes, the base was once home to a state-of-the-art testing facility and a massive refinery for fuels and ores from coaxium to rhydonium. However, during the galactic-wide war, the complex was refashioned into a fortress to act as a last stand for the Kingdom of Serenno. When Andraste rose into the position as Countess, she and the Sith Empire were given the base on the condition that it be “armed and guarded at all times.” And indeed, that condition was met. Outfitted with various defenses from anti-air turrets to a whole division of trained soldiers, the Citadel is perhaps the most invulnerable and secure base in the entire Empire, as well as its most vital when it comes to the war effort.

The Citadel as a whole is a labyrinth of elaborate, up-to-date defenses and tech that can rival any stronghold in the galaxy. The facility itself was built and reshaped to turn the former mine into an invincible bastion. Every detail is with a purpose. Every nook and cranny is there by reason, and there is not a single crack for any single spy or enemy to slip through. At an elevation of 400 meters and built atop a vertical cliff, the height and location alone is beyond the reach of any foe. But the Serenno government had not stopped there. On the ground below remains several barracks and garrisons for troops to either train for the war effort or defend the complex. A short though guarded duracrete wall encircles the entire complex at sea level— the first-line defense in case of attack.

As for the dangers from sky or space, the Citadel is secured with several turbolasers, one on each corner of its foundation, and at least a dozen self-manned anti-air guns in the main tower. Deflector shields, albeit weaker than those used on capital ships, are also positioned around the central tower in case of orbital bombardment. Intricate and encrypted landing codes are used and changed on a weekly basis, along with a complete list of scheduled landings, to ensure nothing breaks through the fortress filter. Even if an armed ship is able to slip through, the landing platforms are on the other side of the Citadel, connected only by a single bridge for hover trams. If guards on the platforms or in the control center discover an unexpected threat, the bridge can be detonated to isolate the main tower.

Those apply only to last case scenarios, as the Citadel is patrolled not only by a multitude of guards but a contingent of starfighters. Half a dozen are always in the air, either patrolling the high orbit, the upper atmosphere, or the area around the facility. The other half remain on standby in the hangar bay. More details concerning the hangar, its location and its contents can be found in the next tab.

There are separate hangar bays and docking locations across the Citadel. The landing platforms outside and connected via the bridge acts as the main source for outside arrivals. Shipments, imports, exports: almost everything that does not come from or reside in the Citadel must land there else face immediate destruction. On said landing platforms, guards are always in place along with their respective officers, who act as inspectors for most transports. Military-grade scanners act to ensure high quantity munitions are not volatile, armed, or in the wrong hands. An automatic one scans the bridge tram before it departs for the main tower, while small, manual ones are provided to all officers and most guards. As an interconnected network, even the slightest alert on any scanner sends a signal to the main tower, who acts upon it. Either by sending more troops, shutting down the tram or detonating the bridge.

The secondary hangar bay is settled below the Citadel at ground level. Except it is less of a hangar bay and more of a construction facility. Despite the steep cliffs checkered around, transports and shipments containing materials for ships are sent there. Spare parts to be incorporated to construct corvettes, frigates, or capital ships. Munitions for tanks and speeders. Pieces to fashion weapons and bombs. Needless to say, it is no shipyard or manufacturing plant. It acts more as a factory to allow the Citadel to remain self-sustainable in case of a planetary siege. Security is more lax here, given that anything suspicious found will be hundreds of meters from the Citadel tower and surrounded by hundreds of soldiers. There is no freight elevator at ground level. To transport goods to the tower, transports must fly up to the main landing platforms above and undergo strict inspection.

The third hangar bay is positioned at the bottom of the central tower on the cliffside. With upgraded military shielding and scanners, security is perhaps the tightest here. However, this hangar is used the least. It is more of a personal bay for the highest-ranking officials in the Sith Empire (encrypted permission codes and voice recognition required, of course) as well as a starting point for standby fighters. Said fighters, nor of any kind, can land through there— but they can leave in case of emergency or by the command of a superior officer. Otherwise, this particular hangar is among the most vulnerable section of the entire facility, albeit the most protected. After all, to the Serenno government and the Sith Empire, it is better to stop the enemies from entering at all rather than to deal with them already within. Because once inside, they may have unbridled access to some of the most important technologies and facilities in the sector.

The refinery vault is just one of those important facilities in the Citadel. Although massive in size, the main refinery is located on the ground level of the entire complex and at its verge. While the resources it can produce is vital, it is also volatile, and if not controlled can cause a devastating explosion across the facility. But with its particular location and its armored walls, should a crate of coaxium unexpectedly destabilize, the main spire of the Citadel would remain mostly unaffected. Needless to say, this facility is the most guarded on the ground level. While not in the whole Citadel, it is still outfitted with enough defenses to ensure it does not fall into enemy hands. Especially with the various garrisons positioned around it, the refinery vault would be unsurprisingly difficult to seize.

As for the vault and storage for the resources, it is inspected and sent to the central tower, where it is locked deep in the mountain and under constant surveillance and security. But to add, the refinery can rarefy and refine almost any fuel source or known ore in the galaxy. Rhydonium, coaxium, pure oil. Although on a significantly smaller scale, even kyber crystals can be tempered and polished for better use, especially as research into the crystals continue in, of course, the Citadel’s research facility. Other information there can be found in the last tab.

The conference room is simply put: the conference room. Here, meetings among prominent Imperial officials take place. Although the Sith Council or any member of said Council are welcome to convene there, especially in case of war, the conference room is mostly for high-ranking generals, admirals, et cetera throughout the Empire. Unlike the dark, dim-lit chambers of an ancient temple, the room is a testament to the stark difference between the Imperial and the Sith branches of the Empire. Between the professional armies under the War Master and the countless Sith that follow the Council. There are no regalities or religious formalities here. Only discussion, strategy and war planning. Needless to say, the room has often been used for… other, more private means.

Yet, for the most part, it is for pure discussion. As it is guarded at all times and can be fitted with scanners to ensure complete security, the conference room is perhaps the best place to meet in times of war.

Back before the Citadel was the Citadel, the research facility was the most crucial part of the mining complex. Yet even today, the facility remains remarkably important to the advancement of technology and research in the Empire. New ores and elements are tested, experimented upon, sometimes even created, to benefit Serenno and now the Sith. While just as dangerous as the refinery, the facility is still positioned at the top of the cliff for maximum security, given the secrets within. Of course, it goes without saying the entire vault is equipped with military-grade shielding to make sure that if something went wrong, the main spire is not affected. Especially since the facility is located in a separate building deep in the mountainside.

Still, just because it’s separate from the main tower does not mean it receives any less protection. While the safety of on-site, high-ranking officials come first, the research facility along with its contents remain high on the priority list. As access to the accommodation is by a narrow, lengthy hallway riddled with surveillance and sentries, followed by biological and military scanners, sneaking in is near impossible. Getting any research out is likewise too demanding to bother, as it requires approval from a top official and a more up-and-close inspection. Even the hint of such research leaving is exacting, as the shielding jams communications, as well as radioactive materials, from leaking through. Not that it would matter, since the facility lays in the heart of the mountain and under a thousand tons of rock and stone.

Junction Base
Imperial Base of Operations on Junction
|
After the fall of Prakith at the hands of Jedi and massive abominations, the Exiles required a new base of operations. With the assistance of Vin, Narri, and Tavek, Kravos managed to find a suitable location for the Exiles to call home. It's pirate occupants were cleared out through some typically shady means and the Exiles set to work renovating as necessary.

Initially serving as a centralized location for Exiles to gather, under the Sith Empire it has become a location for the Sith to rest, recuperate, and launch assaults. It has numerous notable locations and a limited defensive system that came pre-installed. Before the Sith "obtained" the base, it already had a full staff of maintenance and security droids as well as a rudimentary infirmary. Having targeted the central processing computer, the Sith were able to acquire the services of these reprogrammed droids, which now serve to clean and guard the base on behalf of new masters.

Although the base is not heavily defended, it has four double laser canon turrets for fending off basic attacks (likely originally designed to combat local law enforcement) as well as several repeating blasters that are manned by the droid guard crews. Although not complete, some of the more notable areas are outlined below.

The main hall is a two story portion of the building that has a balcony overlooking the lower level and is open and versatile. As standards, it has a dining area, tables, and benches for individuals to relax and socialize. The bottom floor also offshoots to numerous rooms, most notably of which are the sparring rooms that can be used for practice, performances, and other events.

As one might expect, the hangar bay has vehicles for use by the Sith as well as tools for repair, refueling, and management of vehicles. Although not an overly large hangar, it does have space to service a small variety of freighters and speeders for use in the surrounding sector.

The outpost has numerous crew quarters originally devoted to the pirates but now houses Sith and Imperials. The spaces aren't large, but are free to use for any Imperial that would like to stay there.

The droid control center links the security droids and maintenance droids to the main housing unit and the internal security cameras. Originally loyal to the pirates whose base this was, they were reprogrammed to follow the Empire. The control center is heavily guarded and booby trapped similar to how it was by the pirates to keep out intruders. This area is restricted to specifically authorized personnel.

On the second floor of the base, each of the Sith Lords have quarters with everything they might need. Each quarters has a data terminal with access to the Sith Lord's personal data. Outside each room, a pair of security droids or officers keep watch and a complex lock keeps out those who don't belong.

When matters of the utmost importance must be discussed, a specialized chamber is maintained that is only accessible to the Sith Council or those accompanied by one of the aforementioned. It is swept daily for explosives, gases, listening devices, and other forms of attack to ensure no one attempts to tamper with the room and it is under constant guard. This is the very chamber where Andraste declared herself Overlord of the Exiles.
