Description:
A distant and much more heavily armed relative of the ancient Crusader Gunship, the Shukala is the primary anti-starfighter corvette for the Mandalorian Clans, though it also sees wide use as a patrol craft and picket ship. The four massive sublight engines give it unparalleled speed and maneuverability for a ship in its class and the extensive array of weapon systems allow it to shred hostile starfighters and projectiles with relative ease. The dallorian alloy used in the construction each laser cannon drastically reduces the likelihood of overheating, increases the rate of fire, and allows the weapon capacitor to use more energy without the risk of an internal malfunction or explosion. After the fall of the Mandalorian Clans during the Genocide many of the Shukala were retrofitted to carry less weapons and to be less maneuverable so that they would require less used storage, less personnel, and less intensive maintenance.
The weapon systems on the Shukala Mk II are all equipped with fast-tracking targeting computers allowing its guns to turn and fire at hostile starfighters or missiles. However, the lack of heavier weapons batteries and shields means it cannot stand up to more heavily armed capital ships in a stand-up fight. Its turbolasers provide its only real defense against corvette and gunship class warship, and while its medium laser and ion batteries provide decent firepower they are lacking in the required punch to hurt anything larger than a frigate. In truth, the Shukala is largely wasted in fights against capital ships where its fast-tracking weapons are much better served in the anti-starfighter role where the laser cannons can fire precision shots to intercept and cripple fast moving single ships and warheads.
The main reactors were redesigned and overhauled sporting two larger Olar-5b reactors which burned more efficiently and required less maintenance than the originals, even if they provided marginally less power to the main engines.
Like many modern Mandalorian craft, the Shukala lacks a traditional bridge with viewports. Instead, it possesses a Combat Information Center, or CIC. The CIC is located at the heart of the ship, protected by a thick armored shell of durasteel and a thick inner layer of duraplast.
In a pinch the Shukala can double as trooper transport/landing barge, or as a bulk freighter depending on the configuration capable of carrying an ample amount of troops or supplies to wherever they are needed at moderately fast speeds.
