DESCRIPTION
The Series IX patrol gig is a light utility/patrol pinnace manufactured by the Cindev corporation. Marketed primarily to law enforcement agencies and small sector and system defense forces, it fills the need many organizations have for a cheap, ubiquitous spacecraft to show the flag in remote, otherwise seldom visited territories. Given that the vast majority of the Galaxy consists of barren, lifeless systems that are nevertheless claimed by various regional governments with an interest in keeping them monitored to at least a cursory degree, this is a large market segment indeed, and has netted Cindev a good amount of sales over the years.

The Series IX, in concept and capability, is more or less typical of the class of ship it is. The ship is 20 meters in length, can be flown by a crew of 1-2 sentients, can carry up to 2 passengers, has an endurance of about 3 weeks in space and can carry some 10 tons of cargo if necessary. It has a class 2 hyperdrive, a top speed of about 75 MGLT, fighter-like maneuverability, and armament consisting of a 6-shot concussion missile launcher and 4 fixed light laser cannons. In form, the Series IX specifically resembles a long, vertical fin, making up an area far larger than the fuselage itself; this aids in lateral stability during atmospheric maneuvers, but also makes for a large, broad surface upon which can be printed the emblem of whatever service operates the ship.

Notably, the Series IX does have slightly better amenities than some ships in its class. These include full bunks with privacy screens for all crew and passengers, a compact galley with an autochef, an enclosed refresher and a holographic entertainment system. There are also emergency lockers with ample supplies in case of a remote forced landing, including basic tools, wilderness survival gear and rations.

In addition to its popularity with various governments and associated agencies, the Series IX has also gained a following among various civilian buyers. With its small size, decent payload and not inconsiderable speed, it has become a popular courier ship in many parts of the Galaxy.

LEGALITY
Legal. Though armed and generally used by state organizations, the Series IX is classified more or less as a light transport in many systems, requiring little in the way of special licensing.

INTENT
To create a light patrol ship that characters would be likely to encounter if interacting with system or sector governments.
