Fiach was, above all, a pragmatic type. She enjoyed analysing situations – yet appreciated her ongoing development represented something of a conundrum. On one hand, despite her logical mind, she eschewed plans. On the other, she preferred to scrutinise over making snap decisions. It was, therefore, a strange blend of progress she knew she had to undertake.

Then, of course, there were times when planning was irrelevant and the opportunity to investigate was not possible…like now. If Fiach had the time to make a decision, it would have been well considered and entirely logical. Instead, she had no choice but to react on instinct.

She was experienced enough to not lower her guard as the sniper began to lower his rifle – and so his subterfuge did not have the effect he was no doubt hoping for.

As her eyes spotted his sudden movement, and the light that told her what he was throwing at her, she reacted. Her right hand dropped from her saber hilt and she extended her palm towards the miscreant and channelled the Force.

The detonator stopped in mid-air and then reversed its trajectory – heading straight back at the sniper – who’s look of fear made Fiach feel most uncomfortable.

Nara stood over the wounded Twi'lek, with a stern look on her face. The man's weapon was a scored, melted mess. Much like his hand too. And he was currently too busy staring up at the plasma blade that was pointed right at him.

"You messed up a little bit when you didn't surrender to two Jedi," Nara informed him as she watched him wince with shock and pain. "You're getting one more chance to slink off back to your bosses and tell them you've failed, whatever you were planning to do. Try anything again and I won't hesitate," she told him, staring into his eyes.

Just as that happened, the thermal detonator flung back towards the sniper. His face slipped from satisfaction to desperation as the detonator flashed quicker. With barely a second to think, the sniper dropped his rifle and jumped for it, throwing himself off the side of the walkway.

The detonator exploded, right in the middle of the cleared walkway. Slabs of it blasted out, flung across the street below and lodging into buildings. Nara turned and sliced through a large chunk of debris that rushed towards her, leaving it in two thinner slices beside her feet. The air was filled with fumes and dust as people fled.

The sniper rolled around on the floor in agony, his leg caught beneath a large, scorched fragment of the walkway.

"Huh. Idiot," Nara muttered as she looked up towards the roof, waving at Fiach. "Think we're done!"

Fiach wished she could save the sniper – but her instant reactions were now history and she did not have enough time to do any more. She watched as he jumped off the sidewalk – not a sensible approach on any other day, but given the alternative, it made some sense.

Then the detonator exploded and duracrete rubble was thrown in all directions, including down into the alley. Fortunately, the Huttlet was safe and Nara would hopefully have her wits about her and be able to avoid any serious injury.

When the dust settled, Fiach was relieved not to see any further casualties – although many would have been shocked by the explosion, even considering this was the Smuggler’s Moon! She jumped down carefully and – using the Force – lifted the fragment of walkway from the sniper’s leg.

Her medical skills were rudimentary – so seeing he was not going to die from his injuries, she decided there was nothing more she could or should do.

“I’m sure between you, you can make your way out of here,” she said, “and let your bosses know who and what they’re dealing with here.”

Once they’d made their somewhat slow exit, Fiach opened up the protective roof of the grav-pram and smiled at the Huttlet, who seemed pleased to be able to see what was going on again. Then she turned to Nara. “Those bosses might back off, or they might up the ante of course. Only time will tell.”

Nara watched as the walkway fragment was lifted from the thug's foot. It wasn't the prettiest of sights... but he should live. Depending on who he decided to irritate or harass on the way home, that was. Nara knew she could probably help him a fair bit with his half-mangled leg, but that wasn't the point. She preferred to save her growing expertise for people who weren't just recently trying to blow her brains out.

"Whatever they decide, I doubt it's our problem anymore. The Hutt got what he wanted, he can deal with the upshot. I don't think a gang like this'd be looking to mess with Jedi, though. Not without bringing an army." She took a moment to wave and smile at the Huttlet, who seemed to be growing on her slightly. Y'know, like moss grows on things.

"I think we take the Hutt Prince back to his Dad, maybe after a scenic walk? Don't think anyone else will attack us now, unless we go around asking for it." It was Nar Shaddaa, there was always a chance that someone would attack them, but they'd dealt with the immediate threat. "We've done what the Hutt really wanted. I doubt he can complain about the results."

@Corbeau

I think we have another post and then end it there.

Fiach reflected on Nara’s words. “We did prevent his son from being kidnapped or Huttlet-napped, or whatever it’s called. So in that sense, we have fulfilled our obligation. And you’re right, I doubt we’ll have to deal with anyone else today. Not on this scale.” She waved a hand expansively at the scene around them. "But as for the end of it, I feel less sure. Hutts have long memories, and we may have made ourselves a new enemy, and worse still, one we don’t even know the name of.”

“But that’s a challenge for another day. Right now, let’s set out to do what we originally intended. Take in the sights and return the Prince to his father a little later in the day.”

It was an unsettling thought, but Nara reckoned that Fiach was right. She usually was. They'd mired themselves in the Hutt politics of Nar Shaddaa, which wasn't exactly great. Though it wasn't really their fault, the street around them bore the results of their intervention. Smoke, rubble and a half-ruined walkway. And at least one or two dead thugs.

Nara felt a little remorse, wondering if it was all worth it for an offer of protection. But there was no fighting it now. It was done, like Fiach had said.

"You're right. There's so much more of the sector to see, I guess. If we look hard enough, we might even find a tiny garden somewhere that isn't completely dead and polluted." She shrugged as she looked over at the gurgling Hutt Prince, wobbling in his grav-pram. "Besides, I guess he's growing on me a little."

It only took a couple of seconds for Nara to grimace.

"If I ever say that again Fiach, please punch me."
