Saving Sergeant Katarr (Open)

[The Balance]

OOC: I didn't take point, I took one of the spots on the arrow next to point and then I ran on top of a pile of garbage, go figure.

Why did this man have to become un-conscious at the worst possible point, in the middle of an intersection. Bringing Charlie team forward he had one man monitor each pathway into the intersection. The stench was absolutely putrid and the amount of sweat the soldiers were now producing didn't help it either.

Re-taking his perch he tried to see any more enemy movements, but if there were any there then they were hiding. Seeing the corporal find the datachip and look for Casper he jumped down from his perch and graciously took it.

Brendon turned to the Corporal, a big, heavy set man, "Can you carry him? He is still alive."

The Corporal responded by bending down and hoisting him onto his shoulders.

"Red team, on my first mark, run for the LZ. Blue team provide Cover. On my second mark, Blue team, break cover and get to the LZ. Okay, 3...2...1...MARK!"

He ran with his men.

While Pvts Jerry and Althrim struggle to decide on a safe way to get the comlink to Lt. Heivel, Heivel himself was almost out of ammunition clips. There are casualties on both ends, more so to the disorganized entry of the attackers than poor cover for the defenders.

Heivel was stumped on what to do. There is no way to flank the attackers, from the layout of the small center, and his "men" were inexperienced in the ways of warfare. "Relay communications out," he yelled to the closest technician, "tell them to bring backup!"

The man in question nods, and hands his slugthrower to the one next to him. In minutes, Republic communications at the Landing Zone received word that Lieutenant Heivel was alive and in need of assistance in deadly force.

 

[Ru the Boatswain]

"Copy that." There were no enemies near them but now two broken squads chased their position. Two finally decided against continuing after the enemies and ran. They could be let go...here were more pressing matters, like living. The green light had been clicking on and off for every target, muscle memory was annoying sometimes. The alst two fell in red mist and the two moved back to their old positions. They waited for the signals, Twenty-two shots left.

They raced through the rocks. There were no enemies, or at least, none that saw them. Brendon did not go first or last, but stayed level with the man carrying Katarr. As they reached the cover of the rocky pass he spoke, "3...2...1...MARK 2!" the snipers should return now. They did not have long. The man from Alpha Base better be on his way. There would be no time to run to him and get back to the evac point. They ran around the rocks and the the home straight, only just over a kilometer to the ship.

[The Balance]

Racing toward the ship with the rest of the group, he hoped that Mathias would already be there because according to him they had less than ten minutes to get out of there. Each step bringing him closer to the ship was a forced step for the Major. His adrenaline finally wearing off, Casper had to force himself forward.

Ignoring the mangled bodies of the fallen coup members he clutched the datapad tightly in his pocket hoping the mission to not be in vain. Finally reaching the ship with no further enemy resistance he counted less than five minutes left. Leaning against the ship he started panting, for a younger man it was tiresome, but to Casper that sprint was tormenting.

Brendon stood, breathing heavily. They had lost no men and accomplished the task, and even rescued Katarr. But he felt bad not rescuing the Lieutenant. He motioned for his men to load up on the ship and wait. They had little time. He decided to try and get an update. He picked up the reciever to the secure comlink he had given the private as the pilot started up the dropship.

"This is LT Hurley, what's your postion and status, over?"

Both of the snipers pulled off their positions. No shots rang out after them as they went the short distance tot he ship. Abele looked back to check for the rest of Red team. They were behind them but would be here soon. Holding a handrail on the back of the ship she ushered the team neared,"Come on MOVE, MOVE!" She boomed, for her smaller size she could yell.

Jerry and Althrim, through much discussion, went through the way that Heivel would never had considered: frontal assault. Pistols and carbines blazing, they assisting in eliminating the rest of the surprised terrorists.

"Sir, we've been sent to give this comlink to you," said Jerry, giving the device to Heivel.

Lt. Heivel accepted it and switched it on. He shook his head. "I'm evac'ing. Tell rest of command to prepare for a complete evacuation of the planet. You two, follow me back to the LZ."

Lieutenant Heivel and the privates approached the designated dropship as the timer came to a close. "Sorry I'm late," said Mathias with a wry smile. "Lieutenant Mathias Heivel. Nice to see the mission is a success."

He climbed aboard, Pvt. Jerry and Pvt. Althrim remaining behind.

Later, Jerry and Althrim were commended by Lieutenant Heivel. They were both promoted to Sergeant for their actions.

Brendon closed the door and sat on a chair. He unclipped his helmet as the ship shuddered up and out of the atmosphere, taking a deep sigh. He heard the pilot say "Where to next?" and he turned to them, "Home," he said, "we're going home."

Brendon relaxed at the thought of being at home. He might even get a commendation for this. He would get a mention in dispatches, he would write the dispatch. He slowly dozed into dreams of Coruscant and Calleigh, but the transmission alarm bleep and awoke him. The pilot and the Major were standing around the reciever and they motioned for the two LTs to come and see.

"What is it?" Brendon asked groggily.

"Well, we're sure as hell not going home," said the pilot.
