Name:
Saguzar

Biology: The Saguzar are a large humanoid alien species found on the planet of Eadu. Their physical traits put them somewhere between a bat and a reptile. Most Saguzar stand anywhere from 5.5 to 6.5 ft in height with a decent amount of strength to back it up. The fur and scales of the species can vary to a limited degree, sometimes appearing blue, green, grey or otherwise while remaining the same when it comes to the red markings and eye coloration. All Saguzar have a red inner ear, with red fur going in a line from their eye to meet the ear on both sides of their face. Their eyes are always a bright yellow and orange, almost resembling sith eyes naturally with that obviously not being the case.

Breeding: The Saguzar breed sexually, having both a male and female of the species. Their reproductive system is a bit strange, all organs being internal similar to what can be seen in reptiles but producing live offspring. Born incredibly small and often in sets of two or three, baby Saguzar are protected heavily until they grow old enough to learn to protect themselves. The average lifespan of the species would be 70 years. They reach full maturity at age 20, and are able to reproduce successfully until they are about age 55 to 60. They are unable to reproduce with other species, though interspecies relationships aren't uncommon. They are purely monogamous, and hold relationships to a high standard.

Strengths: Sharp claws and a tail tip almost as dense as steel, their natural weaponry outmatches that of most other sentient predatory species. Having large wings connected to their arms going all the way to their hands not too unlike actual bats, they have the ability to fly as long as their wings can move freely. They have above average stamina and strength compared to base humanoids, it being almost a necessity for them to be able to fly and not be tired out after only a few minutes. Their ears are highly sensitive as a result of their use of echolocation when it comes to finding food and other things in the dark caves and landscape of Eadu.

Weaknesses:Their eyesight is a bit lacking, relying more of echolocation and sound to get around rather than sight their long-range vision suffers as well as how their eyes handle intense light. Their tail being the go-to weapon when hunting there's almost a reliance on it due to their biology, and the average adult can find difficulty using some traditional weapons or just weapons they haven't trained with prior to their use.

Diet: Saguzar are carnivores, eating bugs, lizards and various other organisms on their homeworld.

Behavior/Temperament: Saguzar are generally speaking anti-social. Being that they are still relatively animalistic they are known for their short temperament when faced with situations they deem too difficult.

Communication: They have the ability to speak basic, their base communication skills come from roars and similar sounds. Through mingling with the sith it became common to learn their language as well.

Culture: They are nomadic by nature, having to travel around their home planet for food and other resources often. Their ability to fly aided in this aspect of their life. With the entire galaxy open to them with space travel, they prefer cold planets or planets that receive a decent amount of rain and stormy weather. They are based off a simple system, where every adult is equal for the most part and things are democratically decided on both in settlements and in the family structure.

The Saguzar that are religious follow the storm deity Rekari, a god that keeps them safe from harsh weather and lets the water carve out saves and shelters for them when they obey or lets the stormy planet rage heavily and become lethal when they do not. Believers of Rekari consider the Sith to all be nobility, strange warriors and angels that came from the storm above many years ago able to command storms, lightning and magic. Any force sensitive Saguzar is deemed holy and sent to the sith as soon as possible, and very few ever make it to the jedi order though there are a few that do one way or another.

The Saguzar religion was somewhat manipulated by the sith, being that they were the first to discover the species and showed powers and abilities reminiscent of their god there was already a bias toward them as holy messengers of their faith. The old sith took that idea and furthered its hold on their culture and religion, fully embracing it and lying to the people in mass. For those who follow Rekari, even hundreds of years after being discovered by the sith, have unwavering respect for the sith both on a religious level and just generally speaking. At a young age Saguzar are taught the sith language, common and their own form of communication.

Baby Saguzar are no bigger than a hand, and heavily protected as they grow up due to their small size. As a result of that, they aren't overly fond of the idea of the Jedi practice of taking toddlers and young children to their order. Their primal instincts make it so having a child being taken from their protection can result in aggressive and sometimes lethal action. All that said, despite their bias toward the sith in a religious way, there are a number of force sensitive Saguzar that become jedi in their teens or adulthood for whatever personal reasoning.

Not all Saguzar are religious, mainly the ones not living on Eadu or those who weren't born of Eadu for one reason or another. Without an extremely large community being present to reinforce their belief in the god of storms and their messengers in the form of sith, they are for the most part unbiased in their side of the current war and are agnostic due to the lack of religious influence.

History: Saguzar originated from a large bat-like creature on the planet of Eadu. Many years of evolution caused the species to mutate into a more sentient species, as well as giving them natural tools to live in the constant rain and rocky mountainous terrain of the planet. Their ability to fly was unique, allowing them to maneuver the mountains easier and get to food sources they would have otherwise not been able to get to. They lived as a nomadic race on Eadu for several hundred years with no influence from outside variables.

Some odd 200 years ago, Saguzar were unleashed onto the galaxy when space travel was discovered following the old sith empire arriving on the planet looking for possible resources. These sith were worshiped and praised as messengers from their god with their display of sith lighting. The sith played into this belief, manipulating the aliens to do as they commanded as a way of serving their deity. With proper technology the Saguzar quickly developed into an advanced race known for tunneling systems and underground cities. Most Saguzar decided to stay on their home planet, though the ones that left quickly made the species become known for their nomadic and aggressive tendencies almost to the point of having most the population be seen as bounty hunters, smugglers, or pirates.

Modern Saguzar aren't too different from their ancestors, but they've shifted away from their "shady" stereotypes as more of the intellectual and calm members of the species travelled the galaxy at large. Now, they inhabit many walks of life and some are even politically involved.

Planet: Their homeworld would be Eadu, being a product of evolution on the planet and commonly staying on the planet for the entirety of their early life.

Technology: The Saguzar are up to par with all other species in terms of technology.

Intent: I really enjoy writing profiles for different things, and I felt like having another go at writing a species. I wanted to better flesh out the planet of Eadu by giving them native people and I thought the Saguzar would be a cool way to do that. I originally just thought about making a bat humanoid species, which is what ended up coming through in making this, but to a more detailed and thought out degree. I wrote the species with intentions of making a character of the species, and as a way for people to have more options when it came to their characters if they choose to opt out from the usual humanoids around in the galaxy.

I really like this species!

I do have a question though—perhaps you can clear this up, as I may have missed the rationale in the text. Why are they more prone to being sent to the Sith? The article doesn't seem to mention any religious connections to the Sith, or any cultural biases. If it is because Eadu currently sits in Sith territory, I'd like to see that bit removed. That has less to do with their culture and more to do with their present situation.

If, however, their culture has some sort of special relationship with the Sith, I'd like to see that relationship fleshed out and explained some more. As a personal preference, I'd like to get away from this notion that x-species are Sith and x-species are Jedi, but I'm willing to overlook that if you really give some good cultural reasons as to why that would occur.

Profile looks fantastic otherwise! @Kuroshi

Sure, I'll edit to better explain the culture rn

That sounds more in line with something the Sith would do. I am appeased. Approved.

I really like the bit about the Sith manipulating their religion to their benefit. Reminds me of what the Aldmeri Dominion did to Khajiit in the Elder Scrolls canon. Some interesting stuff, if you're into those games.
