It's not often that Newton Arden needs to go to dustball planets like Ord Mantel, but unfortunately one of the P1-D3S droids has gone 'rogue'. While if this were one of the lower end models this might be written off as a loss, but the P1 droids are a very expensive piece of hardware, not to mention powerful, too powerful to be running amok with bugged programing. The droid has already caused some trouble from the reports he heard, some people died, and stowawayed on a ship, threatening it's captain with death. Right now the damage is minimal, not enough to harm Blackwell Tech's reputation, and it needs to be kept that way. The asset needs to be reclaimed by Blackwell nonetheless.

It's apparent that line's capacity for self-learning was too high and manufacturing defects are not a good combination.

Newton Arden's ship the Messier 7 would land just outside the rundown and seemingly abandoned spaceport that is where he tracked down the droid's whereabouts. There was some talk from the main city, this place was where the droid was last spotted.

Newton has his usual standard equipment, but he brought some extra stuff to ensure that he successfully retrieves the unit. One, he brought along his personal D3-NB bodyguard 'Deneb', which is holding a PK-32 Ion Blaster. Newton's astromech droid M7 would be left on the ship. Him and the ships AI would be able to keep the ship safe. Newton also has a blast vest on him, over his casual clothing. He also has a open-faced helmet and range glasses to keep the dust out of his eyes. Lastly, a datacard that he can insert into the droid, it will wipe the droid's memory before it can fry it's own memory core.

Newton and Deneb would step off the Messier 7's ramp, and then it would fly off. Newton has M7 and Rigel on comlink when he is ready. "Alright. Lets do this..." Newton would mutter to himself, he would have his hand on his holstered heavy-pistol. No use hesitating, the sooner this is done the better, Deneb would be ready to follow, with weapon drawn.

Another day, another dime, another dame. It had taken the latter to cue the arrival of a Ranger, his superior having filled him in on the deets and the downs, the do’s and the don’t’s, so that he could earn his dime this day. The dame: One female Zeltron identified as Jasique, though it turned out she was just one digit in a number that one P1-DS3 had targeted for termination. It took a local cop to investigate the death of one—it took a Sector Ranger to investigate the deaths of more.

So there he was, Ranger Ruzed, arrived on Ord Mantell and attired in black coat and grey vest and the red and white that went with. He had just stepped down from the ramp of his Iron Justice, coughing into the dust with a chime back toward his ID-21 left in the cockpit. The droid had warned him about the atmosphere; breathable but beating. The master had scoffed at the notion. Turned out that Wayne was right, so Zad Ruzed situated his glasses over his face and braved the world as his boots crossed from iron to dirt.

There were few others in the perimeter; scavengers and salvagers mostly, the likes of which snorted and grunted and darted away from so imposing a figure as a Sector Ranger who never even needed to reveal his badge. Then Zad turned his head. He knew his descent had not been a lonely one. Adjacent from his ship came another that took to the air, leaving behind a lonely figure with glasses of his own. He might have been a scavenger himself, coming down in an inconspicuous enough ship. Though, for all I know, he’s a Sith looking for a Sith who lost his legs…

Zad shrugged at that silly scenario, though he wouldn’t have put it past him. As the ramp of the Iron Justice folded behind him, Wayne refrained from taking off just yet, the droid’s master sifting through the dust to set his sights on the only creature who did not immediately spring for shelter. Zad studied the man for a moment, drawing back the sides of his coat to reveal a holstered TM-357 on a hip; a subtle if serious gesture that he was armed and dangerous.

“Howdy”, the Ranger called across the desert. “You a resident or a visitor?” He looked the figure up and down from behind his glasses. “I’m the latter... The former, well, they seem to be scattering... Maybe you could help me?”

Just as he and his droid was about to cross into the spaceport, he did hear someone addressing him, both Newton and Deneb turned around to see. Seems to be one of the locals, as far as Newton can tell anyway at first. But hearing him, he is a visitor, like himself. But he needs help with something, Newton didn't know what, but the Blackwell Manager was thinking he needed help getting off world or getting something else from the spaceport. Well, Newton was here for business and he doesn't have much of a sense of charity.

"Visitor" he answered, with a blank expression on his face. There would be a pause in his words, but then Newton would make a faux-smile towards the man. "I'm sorry sir, I'm dealing with something important." he didn't really care if the 'residents' were disappearing either, he was focused on his objective, reclaiming Blackwell property. "You'll have to ask someone else to help with whatever it is..." he started to turn his way towards the entrance again. It didn't occur to Newton that the man might be going after the same droid he is going after...

Zad studied the man carefully as the latter spoke. He sounded as unconcerned as one might expect in a place like this, though no telling if “place like this” meant their present location or the galaxy at large. Sometimes both. The Ranger didn’t really care about the man’s dismissive apology but he did care about his companion.

“You mean someone like your D3 buddy beside you?” If that didn’t turn the guy around then these next words might. Hoo-wee. He probably cost a catchy cred. Combat droid like that, you need more than a permit for it.” Zad narrowed his gaze behind his glasses. “Blackwell, isn’t it? Product of Blackwell Automata? That’s a catchy coincidence. Reminds me of a P1-D3S droid manufactured under the same name...”

With that, the Ranger stepped forward to casually close the distance between both men. A hand dipped into his coat to come back out with a badge.

eRYvNnY.png

“Name’s Ruzed. Zad Ruzed, of the Sector Rangers.” He tucked the badge away. “I’m looking for that P1-D3S, as it happens.” And what are you looking for? A paycheck for capturing it? Destroying it? Helping it? There was no telling who this guy was or what he wanted with their target but Zad would find out sooner or later, even if that might lead to blaster bolts and broken bones. “So, you were talking about dealing with something important?"

Newton stopped when he called out the designation of the droid beside him and his eyes shifted. He would then turn around to face him. The guy knew more than he would have thought and Newton's blank expression frowned when he saw his Sector Ranger badge.

Joy.

Newton would mentally sigh as he continued to listen for them. His presence could complicate things. The droid engineer probably shouldn't have dismissed him so easily, it's apparent that the rogue droid's trail has attracted others, such as the good Sector Rangers, and he has the pleasure of dealing with one of it's agents. The Sector Ranger will probably not be concerned with Blackwell retrieving it's property. He probably won't be too pleased with Newton's afflation with the people who made the berserk droid, but he himself hasn't committed any crimes, so he's safe.

Newton would take off his head gear and hold it to his side with one arm, and then admit to the Sector Rangers. "I'm Newton, droid engineer with Blackwell. I'm here for the same P1 droid. I'm going to give it a memory wipe and then return it to Blackwell before it causes any, further damage." he said, stating his intent clear and a matter of factly. "I suppose cooperation would be best, Ranger Ruzed. The P1 Droids are powerful, fast, agile, intelligent, and capable of self learning, probably by far the best droid model on the market." he said. Newton made the droid's line, and he does take a good amount of pride in that he can create such a thing. "I possess the means to disable it" he would gesture towards Deneb's ion blaster. "and give it a memory wipe." he said "I'll help you with the understanding that the droid won't be destroyed and is repossessed by Blackwell." Newton left on the table. Newton thinks the Ranger will be inclined to accept those terms.

Well, that figures. The guy could have been Blackwell, sure, but he could have just as easily been working for a syndicate as a corporation. The name “Newton” wasn’t ringing as many bells, and Zad made it a purpose in life to remember names, ex-girlfriends notwithstanding. If Newton was more honest than they had been then the Ranger’s job just got simpler. The engineer’s, well, maybe a bit more complicated. The target they were after was a compiled tech entry in Zad’s datapad, but here was one of the robot’s makers. Probably knows everything else that the SR database does not.

Weighing his options, Zad pulled out a cigarette, remembered where he was standing and decided against it. Probably find an abandoned boat to take a break in or...something. He cleared his throat of that ordeal.

“All right,” he nodded. “Can’t argue with that. Problem child returns to daddy for a spanking, creator knows best and all that jazz. And Buddy’s got a bigger gun than I do so, eh, there’s that.” He looked into the distance, sweeping his gaze across the port as though a psychotic droid would pull a trigger on him any moment. Then he looked back at Newton. “Just let me help you now with the understanding that this mistake sits on the shoulders of you and yours, Mr. Newton, and if for some reason you can’t fix it then I intend to do just that. Just might not be much to repossess afterward.”

He scratched his head at that. Sometimes Zad Ruzed walked tall and carried a big gun. Sometimes, though, he carried a big mouth above the gun. Only time would tell which was loudest. “So, uh...shall we?” He gestured toward the port in a ‘ladies first’ kind of way.

This is probably as good as it's going to get, he would say nothing to his response for now, But when it was time to get this show on the road, so to speak, he was gestured to go first. This should minimize chances of risk while reclaiming the bodyguard droid, since this one has potential to be very cunning in addition to powerful.

Newton would put his helmet back on and then proceeded to go through the entrance, he would be ready for a fight, as would Deneb, both would have their respective weapons leveled as they advanced slowly. "Be careful, no telling where it is, nor how prepared she is for 'visitors'" The droid's mindset, he's not sure about anyway. He's not sure if the droid just went beserk, or wants to do anything in it's power to stay away from organics.

They would be able to see abandoned buildings, seemingly frozen in time, although they could see and hear the sands and dust blowing.

Newton would then soon see some tracks in the ground, he would kneel and look down, they look like the footprints of the droid. "Here's what looks like to be the tracks." he would look to where they go "Looks like they go to towards the very back section of the place. " around the corner of a building.

"Alright, lets move on" he muttered to him and the ranger. With that, they would advance onwards, cautiously.

When a combat droid and its engineer raised their weapons, Zad would have been remiss not to follow suit. Following their lead—they knew the way more than he did, like hounds on a scent—he let his 357 lead his own way. That way led them into the abandoned spaceport; more a graveyard of ships and structures.

Amid the perimeter, the Ranger glimpsed the odd scavenger, either sentient or not so much. A figure on two legs rummaged through the rubble; a creature on four legs curled its tail atop a derelict freighter; a droid turned this way and that way upon the ground, then back again. Loose wire and then some. Not our droid by a long shot. Whatever their purpose, they did not seem interested in the newly arrived trio.

Stopping at the tracks, Zad allowed the pair of man and bot to walk ahead before crouching down to the dirt. Not just tracks. He scooped up the small thing and tucked it in his coat where it would stay, at least for now, then rejoined his Blackwell buddies. They were heading to the end of the line, and that might eventually be interpreted in more ways than one.

“Might be nothing,”
Zad mused as he strolled beside Newton this time and not so much behind. “But you called the ‘it’ a ‘she’ as well." He shrugged. "Just one of those pronouns would have been trivial. But both, and in that order, makes a guy like me wonder..." He looked between man and droid as they walked, and wondered. "You have a kind of...attachment...to them, huh? More than just how their wires are attached?"

When Zad asked his question, Newton abruptly stopped, and Deneb did short after. He would then turn his head. 'Did he just imply what he thought he implied?' was what he internally thought. The P1 droid might have female-esque frames along with feminine personality matrixes out the factory, but a 'special kind of attachment', as he took the question. No. He did say 'it' then 'she' yes. He would dismiss the question "Heh." he said dismissively "Don't read that far into it" he said then he'd look forward again and then proceed.

Newton did see the other droid earlier, a junk droid it look liked. It didn't seem to be a threat.

Turning around another corner, things would begin to get interesting. He can see three bodies up ahead. "Hold on" he would say to Deneb and his ranger partner of the day. "Three bodies up ahead" he relayed. "Deneb, you see anything?" the D3 droid would take a look around, peering in every direction possible. "Negative."

The Blackwell employee would then tread closer to the bodies, they look like they are scavengers. Newton couldn't tell if they were alive just badly beaten and unconscious or dead) and he didn't want to touch them. "Are they dead?" he asked

When Newton answered the question dismissively, Zad dismissed the question—for now. Apart from his own ID-21, he never cared much for droids. They were things, not people. As for his counterpart, it wouldn’t have been unusual for a droid engineer to foster a certain kind of respect for such machines. What made Zad curious more made him concerned; if Newton hesitated to pull the trigger on his company’s product and the product of his hands then that hesitation might cost a life—an actual life. He wouldn’t allow that, corporate wizard or not.

Speaking of life, three unfortunates had recently lost theirs. As Deneb searched for threats, Zad strolled up and crouched beside one of the corpses. “Dead.” He affirmed plainly after placing fingers to skin in search of a pulse. “Warm, though. This is a fresh kill.” He turned the body over. The sight was unmistakable. “And an instant one. Guy took a blaster bolt to the back.” He rose from the dirt just long enough to crouch beside the next body, this one with a blaster still in her grip. “Also dead. Bolt to the side. Looks like she turned to squeeze a shot off but got shot up for her efforts…" A quick analysis of the scene, better than any droid's. "Based on the outcome of this little shindig, I’d say our three amigos were running away from whatever was chasing them. Didn’t get far before they got dead.”

“I ain’t dead!”

Zad blinked with some mild surprise at that. The voice came from the third body. The man began to cough. Zad began to search for a cigarette.

“I’m...I’m in pain...ACKH!...a bit of pain actually...ECKH!...but I...I...I ain’t dead, mister!”

Good to know that the Sector Rangers can reconstruct what happened at the 'crime scene' with just by looking at it. Newton listened to the policeman's thoughts on this matter. They sound about right. Was this the handiwork of droid they are looking for though? It most likely is, although the P1 droids are programmed to favor melee or hand-to-hand combat rather than blasters. If true, the droid must have some defective programming going on, or it just went beserk or is desperate. This wasn't worth mentioning outloud though.

"What happened?" Newton asked the remaining man, as the latter was going through the motions sitting up, he wasn't in great shape, having bruises and wounds on him.

"Urgh. Me and my friends, w-w were just prospecting..." Newton knows that sometimes scavengers or salvagers will perfer themselves 'prospectors' and not the other two words. It's all the same, just a different term.

"We were di-digging through this downed starfighter over here" that was next to them. Next thing we knew, there were blaster shots being fired at us." the salvagers shook his head.

"Who was it?" Newton asked. The salavger would respond, Newton suspected that it would just confirm what they already figured. "It was some sort of red, robot chick. I got a good look at her. Shiny metal... but..." the salvager groaned in pain again, and didn't say anything else. Might be the extent of the man's usefulness? "What way did she come from?" Newton questioned. The other man would cough and then point "Over there mister" he would point towards the a narrow cross walk, particularly going right. Newton would turn towards the good Sector Ranger. "That's probably where she would be heading back towards." he thought and whispered over. "Anything you want to ask them?" he wondered, before they get going again.

“Yeah…” Zad responded to Newton’s question about asking a question, blowing smoke between lips. “...The hell’s a P1-D3S doing slugging bolts at people’s backs?” It was a question aimed at engineer more than scavenger; and if the tone of his voice wasn’t clear enough Zad made sure to look the former’s way.

“How crosswired is your gal, anyway? Plug the can with a sword, baton, spear—you name it—and you got yourself a knight in shining armor.” He flicked the butt of his cig. “Hell, it’ll win ten boxing matches out of ten, I reckon.” He shrugged, rising from his knees to stand before both his contemporaries. “A blaster in its—her—grip? Sounds to me like Pee-Wee is more than a few wires loose. Nah, this droid we’re after is . . . ”

Zad trailed off, first looking at the corpses before him before his eyes rested on the survivor. That man, amid his pain, there was something far more powerful swimming in the sea of his eyes. The Ranger had seen it before, eye after eye, time after time. He withdrew the cigarette from his lips, blowing a cloud of haze between him and the wayward soul lying upon the dirt beneath him. “ . . . Spooked.” Zad finished his own thought, turning to Newton.

“Your red robot chick needs to be put down, Mr. Newton. This settles that.” It was then that Zad fumbled for the piece hidden inside his jacket pocket. The ‘thing’ was long and cylindrical enough to fit Zad’s fist, though he dared not grip it beyond the grip. He had read the P1-D3S report, all right—he knew its capabilities. Blackwell knew more, and the Ranger was banking on not letting one Blackwell engineer know more than he needed to know. Not yet.

Newton sighed, as the Sector Ranger has pretty much said bets are off and the retrieval of Blackwell's property intact isn't on the table. It's this, the lives of some random scavengers that he's at that point, not the carnage that the droid caused to get to this world in the first place. Newton was annoyed, but there could still be a way to work with this. As long as Newton and/or Deneb disable the droid first perhaps... But in the worst case scenario he will have to settle for the droids body, however damaged it might be.

Annoyed, Newton would then gesture the Ranger to lead on "Alright, after you." Newton would then follow, relucantly however. He would be cautious as he has his pistol raised. They should be closing in on the rogue droid.

The next area they would be heading towards on the next block would be the landing pads, one junk light freighter sitting on one landing pad, with the rest empty. There would be some other buildings around as well, such as a cantina, shops .etc. The droid may not want to be found, but the Ranger and the droid engineer are closing in towards the end.

“One sec,” Zad replied, suddenly aware of how cold his tone had become. He spent that second staring down his counterpart. He had been waiting for the man to display a certain something, and maybe Newton had been waiting for the same from the Ranger, but Zad had his doubts. No empathy in this one. No care or concern. He would remember that. “Guy’s hurt. Needs help. I can give him that much.”

One medpac later and the scavenger fell quiet; fell asleep. He would stay that way for some time, long enough for the uncanny trio to finish their job before the Ranger could rescue the crippled fool. For now, he led the way—reluctantly. Zad couldn’t put his finger on it but he was suddenly wary of the man behind him, more than he was usually wary of anyone behind him.

The problem with crosswired droids was that they were hard to predict. A schizo of flesh and bones was bad enough but a hunk of metal designed for combat with no soul to possess it? That was bad, very bad. Freighter? Zad pursed his lips at the possibility. Cantina? It was possible. Tech shop? Was that more plausible? He sighed into the dust, tapping his pistol against a leg, wrestling with which location to explore first. Any one ran the risk of their being discovered before they ever discovered the droid.

“One sec,” Zad repeated, looking between the two figures behind him. “Buddy has rangefinder, motion detector, infrared receptor and, better than all of that, is as much a droid as our target.” If I were a droid gone nuts, where would I go? “Where’s Dennis reckon his cousin might be lurking?” Or is it Denise? He forgot the name of the droid as much as the sound of the droid’s voice from earlier ago and, forgive him or not, Zad reckoned that most droids looked as male as they did female. Basically, they looked like droids.

Newton was watching his chrono as the ranger insisted on providing aid for the scavenger. Every second spent with him is a second that the P1 droid could be making moves of her own. Not that Newton would care for the scavenger's health even if not.

Anyways from what Newton can understand, he was asking a 'Dennis' where the target might be. Newton squinted his eyes in confusion initially. Newton was confused for a bit as well before he connected the dots shortly after though, he meant Deneb. Deneb itself, didn't catch on though. "He's talking to you Deneb" he said after he turned towards Deneb. Deneb would stand still, and then begin scanning the area in front of it, looking using it's tools. "Target//P1-D3S not in sight. No motion//visual from others detected. Will" Newton nodded. "Keep in mind that infrared won't see whats behind walls." He reminded the Ranger. Newton did see the bright side though. "We are close though, it's the end of the line." He approved of his own words. "Deneb, watch our rear." Newton didn't want to see them ambushed from behind. "We could check the tech shop over there. It's likely." Newton would then start heading towards the tech shop cautiously. "Lets be careful"

When the group would move forward, Deneb would then alarm the group "Warning: Target detected" Deneb said as it pointed towards the top of a building flanking them on their right side. Newton saw where Deneb was pointing to, and then Deneb abruptly had a blaster shot blown into it's chest, destroying the chest armor of the droid.

The tech shop was indeed rather likely. If the droid was damaged in any way then it might source the nearest available parts to repair itself. And, if what I picked up is any indication, the droid is damaged all right. Zad checked his pocket from the outside, satisfied that the object was safe and sound. He retrieved another object and pinned it between his lips. Chain-smoking was a dangerous endeavor, his doctor reminded him, but this one he did not light up. The simple presence of the cigarette simply helped his nerves.

“I’ve thought of a compromise,” Zad mused as they strolled. “How about ‘Denny’?”

Just then, Denny spouted his warning parameter as soundly as an audio track. Zad’s first reaction was to train his pistol toward the tech shop. Mistake.

As Denny’s breasts blew away, Zad skirted aside right away, training his blaster in the direction that the bolt had come from. He squeezed the trigger. A bolt roared from his pistol and then another, and then the Ranger was on the move again. He dashed toward the nearest cover, a discarded hunk of scrap metal, shooting as he ran. Those latter shots had been meant as suppressing fire only, less accurate, but once behind cover he would regain his aim.

The rogue P1 droid had a blaster rifle that pretty much had range of the whole area from it's position, it also had room to run around and jump from building to building, at the same time letting it maintain both high ground advantage over the organics and allow room to be mobile if needed as well.

Newton would fire some shots with it's blaster, intending to at least suppress the droid as well allowing Deneb to get back to it's feet, while also allowing to get behind some crates for cover. "Kriff" Newton said, gritting his teeth. Newton needs to get that rifle that Deneb had, but it will be hard to do so.

The P1 droid just snapped another shot at Deneb in the same spot it blew a hole in just a moment before. Destroying the droid. The rogue red droid also crouched down behind it's cover. Avoiding any shots meant to suppress it. With that, afterwards the droid would then break off into a run, running towards the edge of one building, and then jumping to another. Those droids have a good jump. Next droid would then aim it's blaster rifle. it also had it's inferred vision mode on and then crouch.

At this new vantage point, the rogue droid would see if there is anyone that it can snipe. They will have to poke their heads out sometimes. If they want to play the waiting game, the rogue droid would just reposition itself, or failing all else, charge head in.

As Denny took another blast that ended it, Zad cursed. So much for stun. Still, he had already made up his mind about destroying the rogue droid before that latest bolt. He only hoped that his counterpart was just as serious. There was no turning back now from the objective at hand: Destroy.

Mr. Pee One had the same goal, it seemed. The Ranger played it safe for now, keeping low behind cover especially since there was no other droid to challenge the other. In the span of time, he couldn’t recall much about the defense of the D3, but it had been blown to smithereens after just a couple of shots so that said enough.

Then, keeping behind the rubble, Zad recalled what he did know about his pursuit. If what he carried in his jacket was any indication then squaring up against this droid via melee was not the wisest course. In fact, it was that very thing that allowed him to remember everything he could about his enemy in a matter of moments. Durasteel. Phrik. Fast. Agile. He in turn remembered the droid’s thermal vision, which made him as hopeful as not. Sighing into the wind, Zad realized what had to be done, and neither his pistol nor position were a match for it. Mr. Newton, on the other hand…

“Hey!” The Ranger called across the dust. “Ion blaster’s all yours, buddy! I’ll cover you!”

With that, Zad snatched a sheet of reflective metal and used it as a shield as he darted from behind his cover and zoomed toward an adjacent building while firing. If the droid caught him with express vision, the ‘shield’ ought to defend against the first shot at least, and beyond that Zad would hunker down behind the next haphazard cover. His goal was to distract the rogue rouge droid so that Newton could get the rifle. All the while, Zad was heading toward a duracrete building whose wall would certainly block out any infrared.

"Die efficiently" the rogue red droid said with it's female vocabulator, it would then fire twice at the first target that had revealed itself, that being the Ranger. But they hit the improvised shield that the ranger was carrying, it deflected the first shot harmelessly else where, but the second shot almost reflected back at the rogue droid, narrowing miss with the P1 making a haphazard dodge.

Newton was still taking cover when the Ranger said he would cover him, he encouraged him to take the ion blaster Deneb had. It was a short distance away, but it was still risky to do so with the droid having that vantage point. Newton would have to take the risk though.

The droid engineer would sigh, then mutter a countdown for himself to spring into action "Three. Two. One." Newton would then haul it over to Deneb's remains, getting down and then making an attempt to get getting the ion rifle. He would keep the red droid in eyesight.

The P1 saw Newton get out of cover. P1 didn't know that Deneb had an ion rifle, but she saw Newton as a target of opportunity while the Ranger has found new cover. The red droid would then fire two shots when Newton grabbed the ion rifle. Unfortunately for Newton, Deneb's remains weren't suitable cover, nor was there any else. She had a clear shot.

Zad was a good shot but it was hard to shoot a killer droid shooting back at you. Rouge had a longer barrel and a higher position, and meanwhile the Ranger was skipping sideways so he couldn’t afford as much aim. Still, he had hoped that his efforts to distract the shooter would pay off. Dying efficiently was not on his agenda today. Well, dying at all, really. He harbored that thought as he hunkered down behind a building’s wall, flexing fingers on the handle of his 357. Another thought followed the first. Hope you got that blaster in time, Mr. Newton…

Two blaster bolts went off just then. They didn’t hit anywhere near Zad’s position. Shit. With that, the Ranger rounded himself from the wall to train the barrel of his pistol toward Rouge. With the assailing droid distracted toward the other guy this time, Zad had the element of surprise and a clear shot. Another bolt might have coughed from the droid’s blaster just then but that was a risk that Zad had to take, because the moment afforded him another moment to aim. Now. He squeezed the trigger. The bolt soared for the droid’s head. It didn’t matter if it missed. Zad’s finger was on the trigger again. -Zap! Zap!- Two for the chest.

Such antics would definitely get the droid’s attention. That would be swell. Zad would yank himself back behind the wall leaving Newton to finish the job, perhaps with a bit of a motivational speech from his partner. “SHOOT HER!” The Ranger roared over the commotion. “SHOOT HER!”
