Well, here we are. The Jedi Order was now trying to work directly with the Sector Rangers in investigating the crazy darksiders. Y'know, like Hannibal and half the Order said they should months ago. But at least it was happening. He could only hope something incredibly stupid didn't happen to ruin the whole thing. Finding and stopping the Knights of Ren would probably go a lot easier with even a little backing, seeing as the Jedi Order wasn't exactly the most numerous organization in the galaxy.

He was leaned up against a wall by a sewer maintenance entrance, waiting on the Ranger to arrive. Contrary to just about every time he'd shown up anywhere, ever, Hannibal was dressed in very practical attire, beneath which was his usual tailored blast vest. On his belt, besides the menagerie of Jedi utility belt staples were his DE-10 blaster pistol on his right hip along with two spare power packs, his lightsaber clipped to the left side of the belt, a combat fusioncutter just next to it in a little sheath. Three security spikes were stacked in another pouch. He also wore his usual gloves, and was currently in the process of rolling up his jacket sleeves while he waited, displaying the colorful and intricate tattoos. He didn't much care if the Ranger showing up at some point considered them unprofessional. They wouldn't keep him from doing his job. The small smirk was back on his face, having recovered from the holonet broadcast, and he chose this time to light himself a cigarra, the metal-lined pouch serving as a portable ashtray snapped open as he did.

Privately Hannibal wondered if this Ranger would be more of a cop or a space wrangler type, and wished he'd bet some money on it with someone. Hopefully they would get here soon. Between Ranger training and his own usage of the Living Force to track things, he was sure they'd find
something.

Spending quality time with a Jedi, wouldn't his momma and poppa have been proud?

Or, well, they probably still could be proud right now actually. Lorcan had never really kept up a line of communication with them once they left the system but they could still be alive as far as he was aware. Interesting if it turned out to be true but not something he was focusing on today.

Wandering over to the meeting point, Lorcan puffed away at the cigara he had gotten himself on the way. He usually just linked the regular old vices such as alcohol but cigs were good on the go he supposed and they gave him a little bit more length to his fuse when dealing with morons.

He took one look at the waiting Jedi and sighed.

He stood in front of Hannibal and made a point to finish his just-started cig in as few pulls as possible. It helped him add length to his fuse when dealing with morons and here was a Jedi dressed like he imagined normal people dressed. And... equipped as though he was going to either fight a small war or repair a spice freighter.

Lorcan tossed the cig butt away before thinking on it for a second and drawing a fresh one.

"Right then, introduce yourself before we get a move on then?"
he urged the Jedi as he shaded the cig from the wind as he used a lighter, careful to keep it out of the wind, "Or you just gonna keep standing there like dressed like a Gothic schoolboy with a utility belt fetish?"

Hannibal turned to look at the Ranger who'd arrived, green eyes scanning over him for a moment. He flashed a grin and laughed at his straightforward introduction, flicking ash off his cigarra to the right somewhere. "That's rich coming from someone dressed like they just stepped out of the dieselpunk apocalypse." The young Knight took one last drag and put out the cigarra in a metal-lined belt pouch that served as a portable ashtray and held his hand out to shake. "Hannibal Grayza, nice to meet ya." he said by way of introduction.

The other guy seemed to have something of an attitude, but really that worked out just fine. Banter came second nature to Hannibal and he was rather looking forward to it, whether the Ranger wanted it or not. He'd started it after all. Hannibal gestured with a thumb at the service entrance to the sewer system behind him.

"Shall we then?" He turned to the metal door and entered a lock code he'd been given into the worn and dated keypad attached to the wall next to it, the door itself screeching itself sluggishly open. From his belt satchel he retrieved a flashlight, shining it down the poorly lit entrance corridor. As amusing as it was for Jedi to so often use their lightsaber as illumination, Hannibal preferred a less dramatic solution.

He stepped in first, senses alert for any trouble. For once he knew what he was looking for and his intuition would help guide him in the right direction. His gloved right hand brushed against the wall, hints of impressions tingling through his fingers. Someone had been here relatively recently for sure. He began walking down the downward slanting hall, heading to a distant crossway, right hand resting against his holster. He didn't know how seriously the Ranger was taking this, but if the darksiders were a part of this he wasn't going to take it lightly. Hannibal knew that other force users could be alarmingly quick on the offensive.

Lorcan listened to Hannibal's comeback in silence before he grinned wide.

"Oooo that is the closest one of you glowstick-waving robewearers has come to doing anything of worth. Surprised I didn't see the steam coming out your ears when you thought it up though."
he joked right back, grabbing the offered hand and giving a handshake because, god damn it, this was looking like it might actually be worth the price of the coffee it had taken to get him awake enough to be here, "Lorcan. Sector Ranger and Arsehole."

He was happily both of those things.

Looking at the entrance to the sewer system he took a hot-flask from inside his coat and took a refreshing swig of his still-hot coffee before handing it to Hannibal.

"Coffee with something added to help us ignore the smell."

Whiskey.

It was coffee with whiskey.

Drawing his heavy blaster pistol, Lorcan made sure that it was firmly on the stun setting before fitting his helmet on and stepping down into the sewer system. It's systems loaded quickly and he took stock for a moment, looking back and forth down the part they had entered onto. He checked the compass.

"Alright so the vault was west of us and they're escaping on foot down here stood in the crap. They ain't heading west."
he muttered, mostly to himself as he examined the area, moving on ahead to where the tunnels branched out into several other tunnels, "Well fantastic... you check the ones on the right for any clues and I'll pick the ones on the left."

Of course his luck had to decided today, of all days, to be terrible. As soon as he turned to walk down one of the tunnels he spotted it; the concussion grenade left as a trap. Which he only spotted... because it was activating.

"Motherf-!"

His shout probably got out in it's entirety but Lorcan didn't hear it, blinded and deafened as he was from the grenade. He had landed flat on his back on the grimey floor as well but right now he was busy trying to claw his helmet off so he could actually try and see again.

Alright so maybe he would make sure to turn his blasters' stun modes off for this missions because seriously; kark these bloody arseholes.

Hannibal happily took a swig of the spiked coffee, well used to drinking in his off time. A bit wouldn't hurt him, and he'd done much more dangerous things with way more in his system, as a couple of his scars could testify. He nodded in response to the Ranger's suggestion, placing a small filter-rebreather mask over his mouth and nose as he moved.

Then his spine tingled and he spun around, instinct bringing him to face Lorcan and shield his eyes at the same time just as the Ranger triggered a leftover trap. That looked like it hurt. Hannibal walked over and reached down to help haul the man up by his shoulders and bent down by what was left of the trap, ears ringing from the echoed boom.

He touched the bits of trap with the tips of his gloved right hand, sinking his presence into them. The first obvious impression was Lorcan walking right into it of course, but then were the trap layers. Pieces of intent, thought, emotion, direction. A few seconds later he stood back up, tapped Lorcan on the shoulder, and indicated the right hallway. He had a suspicion he didn't understand Epicant sign, so he didn't bother and just made sure the man could at least see before leading the way.

Concussion grenades were never fun.

When they were something you couldn't prepare for, however, they were even less fun. Grunting softly, he tried his best to not make any sounds. The concussion grenade was very loud and had thrown his sense of hearing for six that much was for damned sure. He could think he was whispering when he was actually screaming to the stars so instead he just... tried to keep himself calm and to ignore the pain in his eyes and ears.

Of course with the pain from both of those sources he gained a killer headache but that was something he could deal with. He stiffened slightly at the way Hannibal hauled him to his feet but he allowed it easily. Taking a deep breath, he steadied himself on his feet as best he could as a man functionally blind and deaf for the moment.

He placed a hand against a wall and rested against it for a moment, letting himself rest as Hannibal observed the trap. Though, of course, Lorcan didn't know what Hannibal was doing. His hearing was still shot but his eyesight was gradually coming back to him, the naturally dim lighting of the sewers actually being rather suited to his recovering eyes.

Blinking away burning spots of light still lingering in his vision, Lorcan made sure he was still armed with his pistol before taking up a position at one side of the right tunnel's entrance, eyes locked onto Hannibal for a signal since his hearing was still mostly dominated by the sound of ringing.

Hannibal checked on the Ranger's condition, guessing he wasn't doing so great considering he'd just been hit by a concussion grenade. He waved his hand in front of the his face a bit, stepping back when Lorcan took up a proper position. That meant he could probably see, right? Hannibal shrugged it off, waved his hand again, pointed at both of their chests and then made a chopping motion down the hall.

Then he turned on his heel and continued on down the way. He'd definitely read that this was the right way, they'd clearly walked this way. But he'd been expecting some kind of Force presence to track, and without his knowledge, it was throwing him off pretty hard. His senses were sharp, but sometimes a bit vague.

That was why he followed them around a corner, gloved hand dragging across the wall, and directly into a hanging flashbang.
"MOTHERF-" BANG!

He staggered back with his arm over his eyes, but he was too late. He couldn't see or hear worth a damn and his back impacted a wall, against which he leaned for support.

This was going very well so far. Hannibal suspected at the very least the people they're tracking had heard the two traps go off. Hannibal immediately began focusing the Force, beginning a swifter than normal but certainly not fast enough for his taste recovery, accompanied by a litany of rather violent swearing in Epicant.

Was it bad that Lorcan honestly felt a little bit vindicated by the fact that he wasn't the only one to get caught in one of the enemy's traps during this mission? Probably. But he was going to make sure that the Jedi was just as well off as he was. Lorcan's eye sight was back and his hearing was usable again.

There was still a ringing in his ears but that was probably just the beginning of a lifetime of tinnitus.

With himself still shaking off the effects however, he let the Jedi lead the way and was watching their six when the second trap went off. Cursing, Lorcan spun round to see Hannibal stricken by a flashbang much the same way as Lorcan himself had been. Grabbing the Jedi by the shoulder with one hand, he gave his ally's shoulder a reassuring squeeze to confirm that it was him, not an enemy, before half-guiding and half-dragging Hannibal back to the entrance to the tunnel, pushing him past the entrance way into cover just as the enemy arrived at the far end of the tunnel.

Lorcan caught the number of enemies - six - and the fact that they were armed with rifles and wearing some decent flack jackets, before he reacted. Thankfully his reaction speed was quicker than theirs as they had been expecting to only need to pick off someone downed due to a flashbang.

Loosing off four shots from his pistol, two of the men went down, stunned, as the remaining four grabbed cover at their end of the tunnel, giving Lorcan time to do the same and to give Hannibal time to get his bearings.

Hannibal tensed a moment, but he could feel it was Lorcan and not some sort of bandit or sewer creature and followed along, his Jedi senses allowing him some coordination in moving back to the entrance. Unfortunately he also felt the incoming men, hostility clearly their intent. How wonderful.

They moved somewhere outside, probably the entrance, and Hannibal heard blaster fire go off four times. He shook his head again, the Force giving him a quick recovery but he would still need more time to be able to see clearly or hear things without a loud ringing. Luckily, he was still a Jedi.

He felt the two get stunned, the rest diving behind where he was pretty sure there were walls or something. Well that wouldn't do at all. Lorcan probably can't shoot around corners, right? That needed fixing.

From his little spot of cover around the corner of the doorway Hannibal reached out in the Force, left hand peeking out for a moment to send his grasp towards the four men he could sense. Invisible fingers managed to grip three of them, dragging them sharply into the slippery slime-filled hallway. The three flew into the corridor end over end, hitting the ground in a disoriented heap. Now they were much easier to hit targets than they were a moment ago.

Hannibal figured Lorcan's got this one. He still didn't trust his own aim at the moment, all things considered.

Well it was good to see that Hannibal wasn't down for the count and the Force Pull was useful in pulling some of them back out of cover and knocking them from six. Grinning a little bit, Lorcan waited until they had stopped moving before leaning out of cover to get his chance to stun them.

Unfortunately only three of the four guards had been effected by the Pull and that meant that one of them was still free and clear to open fire on Lorcan himself.

Thankfully for Lorcan the man was shooting quite wildly so he wasn't as on target as he hoped. But he was on target enough that one of the bolts skimmed the left side of Lorcan's helmet. Knocked down from the force of the bolt, Lorcan swore loudly as he pulled himself back in to cover and knocked on the side of his helmet. The wiring of the helmet was fried even if the damage to himself was limited to the same level of damage as taking a strong right hook to the face.

Did it hurt and rattle his brain around? Yep.

Was it going to take him out? Not on his life.

Unfortunately what it did do was damage the wiring - which meant his helmet's functions were no longer working. He pulled his helmet off and tossed it to one side before the malfunctioning filter could make it harder for him to breathe. The HUD would be missed but better his helmet and it's functions than his life.

After his pull, Hannibal focused himself on recovering from the lingering spots in his eyes using the Force, under the assumption that Lorcan could handle things. But apparently luck just wasn't on their side today. Even if he was still half-blind there's no way he'd miss Lorcan getting the side of his helmet pinged by a blaster shot just next to him. Time to get to work.

The Knight stepped out from behind the cover of the doorway, brilliant green lightsaber snap-hissing to life and lighting up the sewer tunnel. A panicked follow-up shot from the man still standing was reflected back to its source and impacted his left shoulder, sending him spinning to the ground wounded by alive.

Hannibal reached out in the Force, extending it towards minds overcome with fight-or-flight instincts by their situation and nudging them more towards the latter option. He spoke, and his voice took on an unusual but authoritative tone through his use of the Force.

"You do not want to fight us. Lay down your weapons and surrender." he commanded, trying to get this over with both quickly and without having to shoot people and/or chop their limbs off. Luckily, this was the sort of solution Hannibal was well practiced in.

The small heap of men mumbled something resembling agreement and let go of their weapons, raising their hands, while the one who'd just basically shot himself simply dropped his blaster and elected to stay on the ground. Hannibal nodded in satisfaction, but did not lower his lightsaber. He looked over his shoulder at the floored Lorcan and bent down to offer him his right hand to help him up.

"Today's cursed, eh? Help me get these guys in cuffs when your head stops spinning."

Sending a blaster bolt back in return-to-sender fashion?

Pretty cool.

Sometimes Lorcan could admit that the Force would probably be cool to have. Other times it just reminded him that people could get themselves influenced by the life-force so much that it could make them turn emo edgelords. Any power that, when abused, could turn you into a teenage boy's idea of "awesome" was something to avoid in Lorcan's experience.

Talking people into actually giving up though?

"I call bullshit."
he groaned, taking the hand and standing, "Talking people into giving up is just bullshit."

He looked at the mostly peaceful guards for a moment before shrugging.

"Only one set of cuffs."

Before he blasted the unsuspecting guards in the face one by one. With them all kind of lying there or just getting to their feet it resembled a set of executions if not for the fact that Lorcan was shooting stun blasts. When only one of them was left he instead grabbed the man by the collar and started dragging him off to the side of the tunnel. The man began to struggle in vainly as the effects of the Force washed off of him.

"I'm only going to ask you once."

Lorcan threw the man flat on his face before dragging his head by the hair and pushing him-facefirst into the brown 'water' of the raw sewage that was around them. Standing up, Lorcan replaced his hand with his foot, holding the struggling man's head under the disgusting liquid before stepping back and letting him breathe.

"Again - asking once."
he threatened the man, "What can we expect further along?"

The guard was crying.

"There's a few more mines and... and a security door... blast door..."
he sobbed brokenly, "The code is... Ord66. There's a smuggler's den that we've been using as a hide out."

Lorcan smiled.

"Thank you."
he declared before stunning the man, before making sure he wouldn't drown in sewage while unconscious, "Thanks for waiting Jedi. That was... therapeutic after the mines and the helmet."

Hannibal brought his free hand up to his ear after pulling Lorcan up, grinning brightly. "I'm sorry, what? I couldn't hear you properly. Was that 'talking people into giving up is super great and I'm so glad you came along'?" He laughed through his filter mask and got to looking through the now-stunned guards things while Lorcan got to his vigorous question-asking. They were good guys and all, and they wouldn't kill them, but that didn't mean they had to be nice about it.

Hannibal retrieved a helmet from a stunned guard and held it in his right hand. He was fine other than a light ringing in regards to the earlier flashbang, what with the Force and all, so he'd heard the man's information quite clearly before he too had been stunned. More mines and a smuggler's den, was it? No mention of red sabers or anything, but at least Hannibal knew what he was looking for this time.

He focused on the helmet in his hand, using it to find the way the men had come from and follow the trail all the way back to where they came from. The parade of images and impressions was very sharp and quite clear on where to go, as well as where all the traps were put down. Easy peasy, no problems.

"Off we go then, yeah?" he intoned cheerfully, walking with a swaggering confidence down the sewer halls and casually disarming three of the traps with a flick of his lightsaber. He even retrieved one of the grenades safely and tossed it into the helmet for later.

At long last they got to the door. Hannibal didn't sense anything living on the other side, so it should be fine, right? He readied his helmet-bomb, punched in the code, and arced his arm forward to throw it into the room!

Then his danger sense went off, but it was a little late. No wonder, seeing as the person behind the door was actually a BX Commando Droid repainted in gang colors. The droid's vibrosword smoothly knocked the helmet-grenade back behind it somewhere and whipped down towards Hannibal's leg, where he only managed a partial parry due to the weight and force behind the solid weapon, his thigh sliced deep. He prepared to counter-attack, bringing up his lightsaber, but he couldn't properly deal with the droid's quick usage of its off-hand blaster at the same time.

Hannibal flung himself backwards and braced himself around the same time as a vibrosword swung through the now-empty air and a blaster bolt fired out just past his blade's guard, impacting his lower torso. The breath left him and he skid on the ground before rolling several times, trying to catch his breath. Kriff that hurt. This was why he wore a blast vest. His left leg wasn't holding weight properly, the muscle damaged by the vibroblade's ultrasonic edge. Hannibal would need a moment, but he at least had his saber up. In the meantime, the droid turned its sights to Lorcan, prepared to engage.

This Jedi had a sense of humor at least and he was something of an arse like him too so Lorcan wasn't going to dump on the guy. He was actually already thinking he'd add in some good comments about him in his official mission report when it was all over actually. Grinning a little bit he flipped Hannibal off.

He would get it.

Following behind the Jedi, Lorcan hummed a little bit as they deftly evaded the further traps as they approached the main door of the smuggler's hideout. He would admit that a small part of him expected to reach the door only after somehow managing to trip all of the trap mines but he wasn't about to complain about NOT being blasted.

Speaking of blasted though...

Lorcan had stepped to one side when Hannibal had gone to open the door and it was the only reason he didn't bump into Hannibal in the short ensuing melee - it was also why his own vibrosword swinging up from a low guard was able to catch the droid off guard. His blade cut through the blaster pistol cleanly even as it was finishing off it's attack on Hannibal. Backing up instinctively, he grunted as the droid's follow up kick to his gut was quicker, forcing him backwards with a light winding but hey - it beat being skewered.

Hannibal re-adjusted his position on the ground, leaning his weight on his un-wounded leg and partly straightening up. His ribs hurt where he'd been shot on his left side, but pain was one of those things Jedi were trained to deal with. Just another distraction. It was a lot of pain, though. Nonetheless he held up his right hand as the droid moved forward to follow up on kicking Lorcan, vibrosword quickly drawn back to swing forward.

Hannibal focused through the pain and wrapped the Force like a durasteel vice around the droid's spindly neck. The droid find itself abruptly stuck in the doorway, sword swinging into empty air as was unable to utilize most of its strength. Classic combat trick; Grab the neck, everything else follows. The Knight didn't bother speaking, figuring Lorcan would shoot the thing all on his own. Plus speaking would probably hurt, just like breathing. Hannibal could hold the droid for a few seconds probably before his concentration waned.

Did he say that the Force was bullshit?

Because right at this moment Lorcan was more than happy to revert his opinion on the matter and declare that the Force was the best thing since sliced bread. His own vibrosword had been raised but, well, bladework was something that Jedi and droids could boast more precision in so he had been slightly unprepared and ready to admit to himself that he was likely about to get shanked by a toaster with delusions of grandeur decked out in colorful paints.

With the Force holding the droid back though, Lorcan was happy enough that his skills outweighed those of a the demented metal can and it's targeting chip. Swinging up from a low guard, Lorcan swung for the fences with his target stationary and cut the droid vertically in half from where the groin would have been right to the top of it's head.

The droid fell to the ground in two, sparking, pieces.

Lorcan stared at it for a moment.

"... jumped up fecking toaster. Serves you right."

Hannibal immediately let go of the droid's neck once he felt resistance cease, dropping back down again for a moment and gathering himself. After several seconds he adjusted himself painfully into a seated position with the injured leg off the ground. Lucky they were away from the more sewer-y parts of the sewer by now.

He retrieved a roll of bandage and a bacta patch from one of his belt pouches and wrapped them around the cut across his thigh. The less bleeding and exposure the better. The rib wound hurt like hell but ended up being mostly surface burns through the blast vest and he'd have to undress to deal with it. Later would be fine. For now he just focused on the Force as best he could to begin the healing process.

"Well, that was shit." he commented from his place on the ground, looking over the bisected droid on the ground. Probably not really salvageable. Oh well. "Go see if there's anything interesting in there. Ideally not a grenade." Hannibal had decided to stay where he was for the moment unless otherwise called upon. He did have several slicer's tools should they be required.

Yeah somehow Lorcan didn't think that he had anything to add to Hannibal's comment because, well, it had been pretty shit and Lorcan was very much looking forward to finding anything but another grenade. Nodding to the Jedi, he readied both his pistol and his vibrosword and peeked into the room.

Looking around very carefully, he was happy to find no further traps and no further droids.

"Result Jedi."
he declared as he returned, reaching out to help Hannibal up as the Jedi had helped him up before but also giving the Jedi his shoulders for help supporting him while upright, "We got ourselves an empty room but there's a couple of things I find... interesting that you might find worse."

The room was some old bunker but the most important thing was the workbench to one side of the room that was equipped with rather up-to-date technology... alongside some more exotic technology. There were two lightsabers strewn across the workbench, one mostly intact and the other completely disassembled. Both of the kyber crystals were set out on the bench.

"... well that's a shitty colour."

The kyber crystals glinted red in the low light.

Oh good, he wouldn't have to try and limp into the room. Also no traps, how lucky. Hannibal quickly scanned over the room and the abundance of tech. Either well funded or well stolen, but he wasn't feeling much influence of the Dark Side here. Other than the lightsabers sitting on the table of course.

Hannibal liked red. Several of his tattoos were a traditional red shade. The red of bled crystals, however, was to him distinctly different. Hannibal leaned forward onto the workbench and gingerly sat himself on the chair in front of it. He wiped his left glove off on a table corner a bit and then removed it entirely. The tips of his fingers hovered just over one of the crystals for a moment.
"Gonna do some Jedi magic. See if there's anything on one of the computers or somethin'."

Then he began his reading of each crystal paired with its lightsaber parts, not quite touching the stuff but just very close to it. The first reading with the partly intact hilt seemed to garner more complete and potentially useful impressions of information. The second one was, frankly, a bit confused. He got something, but the item being less intact seemed to have an effect on things. Importantly however, beyond the crystals themselves being bled by a darksider, he wasn't getting any really recent impressions of one. Were these stolen or something?

They must be. Hannibal doubted a saber wielder would just half take apart their weapons and leave them in a sewer with a bunch of idiot thugs. After several minutes of reading he replaced his glove and took out a datapad and stylus, beginning to add notes in the form of both written words and sketches of things he'd seen. Could be useful later.

Jedi magic huh?

Well who was Lorcan to judge Jedi magic? He was happy with his vibrosword and blaster over the damned magic but he would be the first to admit that it was rather useful in a pinch. Shrugging a little bit, he left Hannibal alone with the weird magic crystals and wandered around the area.

It was strangely well constructed for a gang hide out, even if the gang had been using some of the lightsabers that the Sith and Jedi seemed so incredibly fond of.

Seriously, why not just use a sword like a normal person?

Making his way around the room, Lorcan might have appeared to be taking a very casual view of the whole affair but he was actually being very thorough in everything he was observing. After a few moments he stopped in front of the side-panel of a speeder that had been dragged into the room and worked on.

Tools were scattered around... but none of them looked as though they had actually been used before. They looked to be near brand new and that just didn't add up. Looking over the speeder a little more, Lorcan ran his fingers along one of it's panels and paused before pushing in with his fingernails. Gaining even a little bit of purchase allowed him to pull the metal panel from the side of the speeder, showing that it had been hollowed out.

Reaching into the smuggling compartment he retrieve something that just reeked of "clue"; a metal crate with the symbol of the old Empire stamped on it's side. Within he found a very old, very warn, itemization of inventory.

"The sabers were stolen from an old Imperial installation not too far from here."
he revealed, looking over the list, "Looks like the old Empire kept lightsabers for whatever reason."
