DESCRIPTION
The R-S1 Supercruise is a long-range interceptor produced by the Damorian Manufacturing Corporation. Intended primarily to attack formations of enemy starbombers, the Supercruise is intended to be guided to its target by distant early warning sensors, well away from whatever ship or base or infrastructure it is tasked to defend.

To accomplish its intended mission, the R-S1 Supercruise is built for speed, and little else. Large for a starfighter, the Supercruise is some 18 meters in length, consisting of a stylus-thin fuselage, long delta wings and a pair of enormous external engine pods, each containing a thunderously powerful RX7 ion engine, normally used in much larger ships. Top speed is some 145 MGLT, fast enough to outpace almost any opponent, although maneuverability at these speeds is sub-par. Armament consists of an unusual triple-cannon arrangement, with a single medium laser in the main fuselage and a pair of light lasers in the wing roots; for heavier targets, the ship has a magazine of 8 concussion missiles.

Although a solid, highly advanced design, R-S1 Supercruise interceptors have struggled to find a market in the present day. This is primarily due to their high cost and complexity, but also due to the niche nature of their mission profile; thanks to advances in astrogation since the Clone Wars, it is possible for starbombers - among other craft - to emerge from hyperspace much closer to a target than was previously the case, making short-range interceptors much more valuable, and decreasing the usefulness of early warning systems and their associated weaponry. Supercruise interceptors do still have some use, however, especially in regions which are dense with astrogational hazards that preclude in-system hyperspace travel, such as asteroid fields and nebulae.

LEGALITY
Restricted. R-S1 Supercruise interceptors are combat spacecraft, and are subject to extra licensing requirements and increased scrutiny by authorities.

INTENT
To create a Star Wars equivalent to the YF-12, the cancelled interceptor variant of the SR-71 Blackbird reconnaissance aircraft.

RESTRICTIONS
Due to the complex, high-performance nature of the design, the R-S1 Supercruise is not compatible with any aftermarket upgrades.
