"Where the hell did you learn how to fly?!" an old gruff voice asked in a panic from the engineering room.

The Nebula Sparrow, a beat up YT-2400 Corellian Light Freighter, rocketed through the upper atmospheric clouds of Bespin, stabilizers off, communications array destroyed, hyperdrive malfunctioning and an entire list of other problems not yet in full view of the pilot. Ice crystals began to form on the windows of the cockpit, this should have given notice to the pilot that the life support system was in critical meltdown, however, such matters went unnoticed. An entire host of red lights and warning sirens began to go off, none of them decipherable nor dealt with by the pilot.

"I didn't!" a youthful, light hearted voice shouted back from the cockpit to the engineering room.

An audible "holy shit" could be heard throughout the entire ship coming from the gruff voice stuck back in engineering. The YT-2400 rolled and maneuvered through the clouds with chunky smoothness. Often times the ship would lurch forward and stall and then started up again for another burst through the clouds as the pilot pushed the rust bucket to it's breaking point. Dust particles blew up from cracks and crevasses, trash piles rolled around on the floor, small insects and pests scurried about the ships floor noting the obvious age and degradation. All of sudden the ship rolled to the right as a laser blast rocketed past the ship, narrowly missing the hull that would have surely ripped through it like tissue paper without the shields up.

"Goddamnit kid! I thought you could fly that's why I brought you along!" The angry gruff voice yelled over the intercom which, surprisingly, was the only thing that worked.

The youthful light hearted voice replied back in a matter-of-fact tone, "I never said I COULD fly, I said I THINK I CAN fly. I'm still having fun though."

Another laser blast flew past the ship. The hull was worn and thin the heat from the blast could be felt throughout the entire ship. The blaster bolt flew ahead of the ships trajectory and blew up in an wonderful display of fireworks, both deadly and magnificent. The kid in the cockpit was amazed at the show of power and the audacity the police of Cloud City showed towards the two man crew.

"Halt! You have entered Cloud City Air space. Land now or be shot down." A commanding voice boomed over the speakers on the Nebula Sparrow.

The Nebula Sparrow lurched forward, the engines sputtered, stalling and finally powered off. The hunk of junk fell through the clouds of Bespin at an alarming rate. The wind outside the hull was howling, fierce and fast, ripping loosened pieces of metal off the ship as it fell through the air. The police cloud car sped up to try and maintain visual but soon lost sight of them in the dense clouds. The heat sink adaptors too were also unusable as they were close to the primary Tibanna gas collector that interfered with the police cars instruments.

The Nebula Sparrow fell in free fall for what seemed like hours. The ship had lost all gravity control and the kid and the gruff voiced man were floating in mid air hanging clinging to anything strapped down for dear life. Then, a saving grace blessed the ship as it plummeted towards the infinite nothingness of Bespin. An astromech droid whirred to life behind a hidden compartment in the hallway to the cockpit. It beeped a few notes in a somewhat feminine tone, opened the hidden door and whizzed out into the ships crew quarters and got to work. It first connected to the ships computer and started the gravity control field stabilizing the ship through free fall. Then the engines roared to life and the ship slowed to a halt beneath a Tibanna collector fuel rod. The kid let out a sigh of relief and the gruff voiced man could be heard throwing up the remains of his liquid lunch from earlier, and a smell of old booze filled the YT-2400.

"Yo Dengir! you alright man. What did you to fix the ship? I was out of ideas."
The kid asked in a concerned tone through the intercom.
"Yeah I'm good. Ain't me though kid. Ship stopped on it's own. Hey! How did you know my name?!" Dengir said in an exacerbated tone back to the kid in the cockpit.
"Oh! I stole your ID card. Needed to be sure you weren't creep about to cart me off to the ass end of nowhere and enslave me dude"
"Well shit kid, good one. Call me Maru. you don't know me well enough to use my first name. What do I call you?"
"Uhh... my name's Quintus Flynn, but call me Flynn, you don't know me well enough to use my first name."

The Astromech droid chimed in over the intercom to deliver a message to Maru and Flynn in a quick session of beeps.
"You understand it kid?" Maru asked in a nonchalant yet confused tone.
"Yeah, She said her call number is R6-88 but her name is Zena. She's been inactive inside the ship for awhile now according to her internal clock." Flynn replied.
"You got all that from a few clicks and beeps?"
"Yeah man, you don't speak droid? I thought every ship captain knew it?"
"Never found the use for droid speak. I know enough of the useful languages to get by though."
Zena pipes in again with a few more beeps and whirs.
"Zena wants us to meet in the crews quarters."

"Alright what's up? I don't like floating here like a couple of sitting womp rats. Lets fix her up and speed out like a fathier"

"Hold up man, lets see what she's got to say."

The crew of the Nebula Sparrow gathered in the lounge of the YT-2400. The seats were all destroyed from years of pests nesting and mistreatment. The card table was overturned and had two distinctive blaster pock marks singed into it. The rest of the room was filled with trash, sheets and boxes of old useless supplies. It looked like a vagrant made this their home for a number of years before leaving for an unknown reason. It was a wonder the ship even turned on in the first place.

Zena beep and rolled around in an ecstatic mood running about the lounge knocking into boxes and whipping up dust clouds. The duros Maru coughs and waves his hand in front of his face to clear the dust., then reached into his inner vest pocket and withdrew and half smoked chewed on cigar, proceeded to light it and take a few drags.

"So Maru, where we headed man? And why this hunk 'o' junk?"

"Cause I always wanted one and never had enough money to do it. I stole this ship cause I felt like it, and I needed a way off Bespin."

"Hey I thought you had a job somewhere out in the Galaxy and you were bringing me along cause you needed a pilot?!"

"What? Oh yeah, a job. I do, I do. I just need to fix up a ship without a tracking number in order for this job. And you ain't no pilot! I'm better off with just this droid you little punk!"

"Freeze scum!" An stern voice bellowed over the intercom, cutting off their discussion The hairs on everyone's neck stood up and an electrical buzz shook Zena to her core. The triplet scattered, Zena and Flynn headed for the cockpit and Maru for the dorsal turret.

The ship lurched forward. The hull shuddered with a fierce intensity and then sped off through the clouds once more, this time with four Police Cloud Cars in hot pursuit. Maru jumped into the swivel chair in the dorsal turret and fired up the turret gunner but nothing happened. "Yo droid! give me some juice for the turret!" Maru shouted over the intercom.

Zena turned on her wheels, plugged into the cockpit and transferred enough power to the turret in order for it to start up with antiquated tech. Flynn pulled up to the steering controls and pushed the Nebula Sparrow forward through the clouds, dodging and weaving the antennae that scattered the tibanna gas collecting facility below the dogfight. The police opened fire on the crew. Beautiful sparks of red bolts blasted off into the atmosphere around the Sparrow and red bolts fired back at the cloud car from the YT-2400.

"Yeawho!" Maru could be heard screaming from the dorsal turret "I could get used to this"

Zena beeped in quick succession alerting Flynn to the red lights and warning signals going off in the cockpit. She said something to the effect of "I'll fly us out of here, you be my second."

Flynn nodded back and went to check the warning signals while the ship weaved and maneuvered through the tight spaces. "Glad you're flying this time. I've never done this before!" Flynn remarked to the droid.

The Nebula Sparrow shot through a close corridor, just small enough to squeeze through that there was no room for error. The police cars were cut off, unable to go through the exhaust vent like the Sparrow, but quick enough reaction to fly around the tibanna collector and fly to the other side.

Inside the exhaust vent it was scarcely big enough for the ship so squeeze through let alone maneuver. A piece of hull was torn off there, a satellite dish was lost here. But through the harrowing journey they ship made it through to the other side. Just in time to see daylight and a squadron of police cars posted up outside. They knew the trick and they knew how to make you feel like you were outsmarted and outgunned. There was no where left to run, not here, not on Bespin anymore.

"Kid, I'm facing a high penalty if I get arrested today. I didn't mean to drag you into this but I can't go back. Get in the escape pod and I'll take the ship to its end." Maru said in a somber tone, willing to let Flynn seize what freedom he had left.

"I'm not going back either. They'll just toss me in another orphanage and I'll end up street scum like everyone else."

The words of the two sentients touched Zena and her electrical circuits for a brief moment. She was a droid but her processors could still be triggered empathetically. The Droid dialed the hyperdrive to startup and without a moment to lose it purred to life, old and rusted and not very safe but their last remaining saving grace. She punched in the numbers to a system that was far enough away and punched it. The hyperdrive booted up and with one last push of energy fired through the ships fuel system and blasted them off into the great beyond.

Flynn and Maru closed their eyes for what seemed like the last time, readying themselves for the volley of blaster fire to rain down on them. But it never came. The Nebula Sparrow shuddered. The stars elongated and the ship, what seemed to be held together by duct tape and well wishes was soaring through the galaxy at an exhilarating pace. Setting off on an adventure the likes of which had never been seen before
