Ilana Morata was a woman in need.

Specifically speaking, medical supply need. And she hated going to alternate suppliers for help... but she was on thin enough monetary terms as it was.

So really, there was only one option. She met the Grysk Malakai very briefly on Nar Shaddaa after treating him for some wounds. But she recalled seeing his penthouse, if it was even his at all. All she knew was that out of most of her former patients in the galaxy, he was the most likely to know connections for her needed supplies.

And she was quickly running out of credits. This was very bad.

The agreed meeting place was a mutual neutral place; some small club. The bass pulsed in the distance from where she was walking, heels clicking on the pavement. She could feel eyes sliding on her, then away. She never considered herself worth attracting, but tonight was business.

Making sure eyes were on her was ideal. His most preferably.

She dressed simply, in a small black dress, boots, and a black coat. Long white hair was kept bound simply away from her face, but still no jewelry. Another medkit was kept in her back, looped around her shoulder.

Perhaps he was already there; it wouldn't take long for her to make her entrance, amber eyes scanning the crowd already writhing on the dance floor. But she wasn't up to meeting in a restaurant or anyplace fancy. And besides...

It gave her ample time to people watch if he wasn't here yet.

She slowly walked through; even as apparently unarmed as she was, the crowd parted around her, converging only as she passed. Straight to the bar it was, for now.

W.I.P. character profile

From behind Malakai 'the Macabre' Beck looked like a anybody else. His hair was put up in a man bun, or top not depending on the opinion of the viewer. His eyes had a pair of vindler sight readers on them. They were far from quality spectacles but the slightly tinted coloring added to his 'chill' mood. People wearing glasses inside, especially in a dark environment always seemed like tools. But he thought he would try it out for once.

It was probably because of his glasses that he did not notice Ilana enter at first. Part of him just wanted a look out on the crowd while he waited for the associate to arrive but he caught sight of the arkanian doctor. Finishing his beverage, he put the empty cup back on the counter.

She was already headed toward him even if she did not notice it.
"Doc! Did not take you for the clubbing type." His head gave a cursory glance around the partying crowd. They were not getting many more glances than the usual. "You want to get a drink and then we can grab a table? Or...." He trailed off leaving it open for suggestion if Ilana had something else in mind.

Her eyes landed when she realized she was being called Doc. It was almost as reactive as though someone had actually called her name; she took in Malakai's appearance, and blinking once. "Didn't recall writing you a glasses prescription," she rasped, sliding beside him and tilting her head to the server droid that came in her direction.

"Bourbon. Leave the bottle and glass," she spoke crisply, leaving a credit chip when both were deposited, then tilting her head for him to choose the seating.

"...I don't. But until I have an office, this is my best option," she remarked dryly, inwardly sighing.

It was far from ideal... but it would have to do until she could get her hands on something she could make into a mobile office. She was just grateful he wasn't the kind to be late; it was something that grated on her nerves, but who cared what she thought these days?

When they were seated, she lined up her glass and poured, stalling for a moment any response until she had something in her system. She was still riding on the edge after treating a tantruming Twi'lek and his nervous partner; the lines of her shoulders were tight, her features pulled taut.

She exhaled when the drink was downed, then glanced at her partner.

"Sorry. Long day. So."

She set the glass aside, leaning forward, arms crossed. "I need help. You may be able to help me out. And legality isn't an issue for me... but I'm running low on several supplies." It looked as though it burned bitterly to admit she was on rocky ground, but she hated handouts, and despised when she couldn't control things.

The prices for keeping her supplies stocked was currently one of the largest. But if he couldn't help, she'd have to do it herself. Or ask the crew for help... but she wasn't certain if they knew any alternate dealers, or anyone cheap enough to keep it under wraps and in the market.

The Grysk smiled as she spoke over the music. He looked over at the server and "She means two glasses.". He was impressed but also curious about the drink order. She had only mentioned getting one glass but was not afraid of getting one for himself and sharing the bottle. He had done the same with more dangerous people in the past. "Don't want you killing your liver on your own." The dark sider shrugged while the droid brought him a second glass.

"A gangster doc with an office. I can't imagine what it would be like. Well...actually I can but I just don't know what your office would be like." Malakai said as they found their way to their own table. His gauntleted hand looked skeletal just like his face as he tapped his chin in mock thought then seemed to give up and pour himself a few fingers of the bourbon.

"Hm!?" His expression furrowed as she asked for assistance. He was not used to being asked for help so directly. Malakai took a long gulp but did not completely drain his glass. The generic bourbon was not that good anyways so it felt better to just get it out of the way. Cognac was more his beverage of choice. "What kind of supplies are we talking about?" The tone changed slightly in his voice as he started to sliding more into a business outlook. Did Ilana suddenly lose a crate full of disruptors. The Grysk doubted it but he had a few guesses at what she was going to ask about.

"Thanks. Killing my liver alone was never fun anyways," she deadpanned, then flinched at his description of her current situation. It was... embarrassingly true. What was going to only be a temporary situation was in actuality seeming more and more like the reality of her life until retirement; which, in this galaxy, usually meant you were dead by one angry client or another rather than actual retirement.

"I didn't choose the gangster Doc life, the gangster Doc life chose me." She chuckled in wry amusement, lip quirked in a half-grimace. "If it were up to me, it would have been a private office in the Deep Core. But we don't always get what we want. Especially when we're not perfect little xenophobes."

It was somewhat amusing to see the Grysk startled at her directness; beating around the bush was a nuisance to her. Far better to go directly to the source, it gave her the opportunity of surprise and the other party listened better.

She sighed.

"I don't like to ask for help." She refilled her glass, then tilted the bottle his way in silent offering to top off his own. "But what I need are basic emergency supplies; bacta patches, kolto paste, bandages, new laser cauterizers, bone setters... it's not a cheap list." Her brow forrowed, and the fingers around her own glass tightened. "My... suppliers.... have amped up their prices. To such a degree that even those who have offices can barely afford them." She grimaced fully now, amber eyes meeting his squarely.

"I was hoping you knew some people. I don't like making assumptions though, especially since my own line of work is pretty damned risky on its' own." She downed the other shot, then placed it down lightly, fist curled beneath her chin to glance up at him.

"Care to help a damsel, Malakai? I don't like to leave a debt... but I will owe you a pretty big one if you can."

Ilana's mention of where she had pictured herself made Malakai wonder about himself. He had lived from the day to day, lived in the short term for so long. The Grysk had not given much thought into what he would have prefered other than what he had. At least he never imagined anything compared to what he had now that could be any semblance of practicale. I could have been a crappy action holo director or a mediocre musician maybe. A summer home and chauffeurs.

The life of opulence was not focused, not yet.
You promised. "Fair enough." He said instinctively. But the knee jerk reaction went mostly into his glass. Clearing his throat after taking his share of the sour mash spirit he began to pour a second serving. "Are you thinking you'll want to...pay? Or are you asking if I'll help you procure them with the five finger discount?" His finger tips rapped against the glass at the mention of possible theft. Malakai knew sellers trying to undercut their competition, bootleggers using alternatives, and just people rumored to just be stockpiling supplies. Medical supplies...never without demand.

He ignored the payment, at least he did not chase the subject for the time being. Debt, it was an appropriate word. Small favors, big favors, he could not have enough of those. Considering she was a Doctor he was more than happy to have her owe him one since one day his health could be in her hands.

She honestly hadn't expected him to agree so quickly.

She hummed, pursing her lips slightly. Stealing... yet another thing she hadn't considered. But this wasn't University anymore, and when in the Outer Rim, do as the Outer Rim residents do. She tapped her chin thoughtfully... but a small smile was playing at the corner of her lips.

"I had not considered theft to be an option... but then again, it is a rock and a hard place."

A real smile warmed up across her features, fingers lacing as she leaned forward.

"I didn't anticipate not having to spend a fortune, but I like the sounds of this. What, or whom, did you have in mind?"

It was as if a switch went off. Gone was the aloof Doctor, sitting back and observing. Now there was a definite gleam in amber eyes, a keen interest that caused her to lean closer, a smile of relief tilting at her lips and the stress melting from her shoulders.
