Brienna Lanaamer, Jedi Knight, sat silently, eyes closed. The warm afternoon air of Yavin IV had already started the perspiration on her brow. Bri had posted on the Jedi Temple holoboards requesting a partner to practice her sparring with. She wasn't exactly out of practice, but it had been a while since she was in real combat or any dangerous type situations. Getting 'soft', both literally or metaphorically, didn't exactly help in her chosen profession. The other Jedi in the temple were of varying skill levels, but a workout was a workout, and the opportunities to learn were certainly not limited to Knights or Masters.

One Jedi had replied to the solicitation, Hal Miko, who Bri was not familiar with. The longer that she was away from the large temple on the jungle moon, the more the turnover seemed to resonate with her. There were always new faces, which was good, but Bri often wondered what happened to those who she hadn't seen in a while. The twinges of thoughts of joining the living Force weighed on the Jedi. She hoped that was not the case. Nevertheless, leaving physical form behind was the start of a new beginning, not the end.

Yeesh, you're just here to practice with another Jedi. No need to get so philosophical. Bri shook the thoughts from her mind and re-opened her eyes. A few other Jedi mingled nearby the practice fields, but none of them seemed to be who was expected. The blonde woman had arrived a few minutes ahead of their scheduled meeting time anyways, always eager for prompt punctuality. To pass the time Bri started on a few stretches, laughing to herself hearing her old Master's words in her mind about the dangers of exercising without properly warming up. It's more important than you know! The Jedi had traded in her formal robes for a more training oriented outfit, knowing well the physical activity planned for the day ahead. A pair of tight training pants were matched with a simple beige tank top; Bri's sometimes messy blonde hair, pulled into a ponytail.

It wasn’t often that Vayla returned to Yavin IV, but when she did it was always with purpose. To tango with her Padawan, at least her former one, or simply to breathe in the air of the jungle, of the Jedi, without being stifled by the poisons and pollutants of the galaxy at large.

Today was much and more the same. She had returned for supplies, for meetings, to settle into her quarters and rekindle with candles, to walk the temple grounds and linger in the library, to walk the gardens and leisure in the light.

Then she saw it. The holoboards beckoned a partner for sparring, and that was well and good as much as a cup of tea and a good book. So Vayla had elected. She had relented. She had come to Yavin IV for rest and relaxation, and truly what better way to experience both than by a friendly spar?

In the practice fields, the Pantoran came in her white robes streaked in blue, hood lowered to reveal her hair and face. A smile floated from it along with a voice once she spied her target.

“Knight Lanaamer?” Vayla presumed, halting her walk a fair measure away so that the two women could converse in spite of the goings-on around them. “I am Vayla Mirana. I saw your post for a sparring partner.”

She looked left, looked right. “Am I too late?”

Bri was in the middle of stretching her quads when she heard a voice approaching call out her name. She spun around and spotted a Pantoran woman, who looked to be about the same age as her. "Hi, yes!" the blonde woman replied cheerily, along with an extension of her hand. "Just Bri is fine. Nice to meet you," It was not the person who Bri had expected to meet, but a welcome addition nonetheless.

"No, not too late," the woman replied with a shake of her head and another smile. Bri was always eager to meet new Jedi. Her time on Yavin wasn't usually lengthy, but when she did get to spend time on the moon, it was fun to meet new people and expand her circle of those she considered friends.

"Up for a little training?" Bri added, in case the posting she had left on the message board was in any way vague.

Enthusiasm could be quite contagious and this sitting was no exception. With Bri’s cheerful reception, Vayla spread her lips to match her counterpart’s smile.

The woman was content with first name basis, which was no surprise; Vayla’s custom was to refer by title and name but such a custom was unique to say the least.

Glad that she had understood the message board well enough, Vayla nodded at the offer for training. She could never get enough of it. No one could. And it has indeed been a spell since my last spar… I need this. Now more than ever.

“I am happy to oblige you, Just Bri.” She winked. “Kidding. ‘Bri’ it is. ‘Vayla’ works as well.”

With that, she removed her robe and set it neatly aside, revealing a form-fitting long-sleeved shirt and pants along with a belt that had a silver-black hilt clasped to it with a blue handgrip.

“As far as a workout is concerned, what did you have in mind? I am ready for anything!”

Bri chuckled with a grin as Vayla addressed her as "Just Bri." A good sense of humor is always fun. Bri was pleased that the Pantoran Jedi seemed as friendly and informal as she was. There were a wide variety of Jedi across the spectrum, each with their own interesting personalities. Some were more studious, some more lively, others rather serious, and a few quite intense. The key linking factor was that all possessed a connection to the Force, and sought to use their abilities for the betterment of others. But, it always helped with they shared complimentary personalities, as Vayla seemed to do.

Waiting only a moment while the Pantoran removed her outer robe, Bri was quick to note that the other Jedi had also dressed for a workout. Having no idea at all at her own prowess with the Force or a saber, the blonde woman judged to start with something standard.

Bri unclasped the simple smooth copper hilt from her waist, and tossed it a few times in her hand. "How about some saber practice?"

Maybe others would have missed it, others still would have seen it but dismissed it, but Vayla had captured that copper hilt twirling through the air as though she had caught the hilt itself. Confident, this one… Goo-ood!

“No five words were ever so fine,” Vayla winked. “Saber practice is just what I was hoping for!” With that, she unclasped the hilt from her own belt and took to a stance.

This Knight’s was no formal Form’s stance, not Soresu or Makashi or Niman, though perhaps it was any one of them if not more.

For her part, Vayla simply stood, her left flank to her sparring partner and her arms at her sides, with the hilt in her right hand.

“Any particulars to cover?” The Knight asked sincerely, knowing that Bri might have her own rules or requirements apart from the basics. “Apart from setting my saber to stun, well, the move is yours or mine...but the call is yours.”

Of the Jedi to arrive for the training regimen, Drastus would be one of the last to join. After all, he was just finishing up his own training. Truthfully, he hadn't even gotten interested until he saw sabers. Quickly joining the others, he would smirk as he recognized Bri and the Pantoran also looked familiar.

Clad in his usual weighted training vest, joggers, weighted pack filled with gear, and weighted shoes, he would unhook a pouch from his belt that held his saber. "You ladies got room for one more?" he'd ask with a grin before pushing his dreds back binding them quickly. "If not, I can wait to take the winner."

He had seen Bri do a number of things: Ship repair, party, party some more.. But he had never seen her fight and the Padawan was very curious to see how she fared.

“Any particulars to cover? Apart from setting my saber to stun, well, the move is yours or mine...but the call is yours.”

Bri paused for a moment and then replied, "Uh, no I don't have anything else to add. Definitely sabers on stun mode." We're not trying to dismember anyone here. The Jedi Knight took a few steps backwards, bouncing on the toes of her feet to loosen up one final time. She was just about to take the initiative forward to start her attacks, but paused as she spotted a familiar figure approaching.

//

"Hey Drast," she smiled with a friendly wave. Bri had run into the Padawan in a few different instances, and his friendly demeanor and upbeat personality was always a welcome addition. "Sure, the more the merrier," she added, beckoning him to come forward. Bri wasn't exactly sure how a three-person saber duel would work, but figured Drast could work his way in.

Turning her attention back to Vayla, Bri tilted her head and grinned, indicating the start of action. She feigned with her left foot forward, before lunging to her right, preparing a few quick strikes, alternating high and low. Not exactly the most difficult to counter or block, but Bri had no idea how the pantoran fought, and was fully in information-gathering mode.

Vayla gave a simple nod in acknowledgment of the answer to her question. There was not much harm in being playful in a spar, her master had taught her, for if the fight was anything more than a spar then only a Sith would laugh.

Bri stepped backward and bounced, Vayla circled rightward and paced, but paused as she spotted a familiar figure approaching.

The Pantoran could not quite put her finger on the last time she encountered the young man but the Force was tugging at it. At his push to join the spar, Vayla offered a shrug; Bri had already spoken the very same words she would have used.

This is going to be interesting, she grinned while readjusting her encirclement to allow for a crude triangle. Vayla looked at Drastus, Bri looked at Vayla, Vayla grinned back. Time to dance.

With that, she braced herself against Bri’s initial lunge, a feint that meant little against a defense ready to receive. Vayla sought to indeed, crossing her blade before her body to absorb the high and low blows from her would-be foe.

As much as banking on her return gesture, Vayla was ever wary of Drastus on her left, and figured that if she engaged Bri outright he might seize a sneaky stab. Fat chance! Vayla challenged as she sprung into action after her opponent’s last low stroke.

Vayla slammed the top of her blade upon Bri’s so as to push it further downward. Successful or not, she sidestepped to her right, determined to keep her opponents at her left.

While stepping, her blade withdrew from Bri’s to arc horizontally from Vayla’s right to left, attempting to stun Bri’s left arm near the bicep.

One grin, two grin, three grin, four? That's right, Drast would grin to bring it all back full circle. How could he not? He would begin to circle as Bri prepared to kick things off. "Oops. Sith saber, doesn't have a stun." He would laugh as he lunged around Bri, the ivory glow of his saber joining theirs. Thankfully, his did have a stun.

He would time his approach to align with Bri's, and strike as her last blow landed, aiming his saber first for her left shoulder, only to as a reflex flick the blade back to deflect Vayla's. The next flick of the wrist would be a clearing slash, hopefully to make the Pantoran retreat a little and force Bri back a step or two.

The Pantoran blocked Bri's initial gambit, ably blocking both high and low. The blonde Knight was not surprised, and shifted back slightly, predicting Vayla would switch to her own opening attacks. A forceful downward strike as the two light blue sabers crackled with energy. Bri's block was lowered by the force of the attack, and nearly instantaneously after, the Pantoran shifted to her right - Bri's left - to prepare a strike on the blonde Knight's left bicep. It was a smart move, but Bri just in the nick of time brought her saber over for a last minute block. Bri looked up and grinned at Vayla. Not bad, but you'll have to be quicker!

The addition of Drast threw Bri slightly off balance, as the angle of her block on Vayla's saber left a slight exposure on her shoulder for the Padawan to seize upon. A slight stinging shock as Bri recoiled slightly. The Padawan continued with a wide slice, forcing the Knight to step back two steps to dodge. Vayla stood on Bri's left, and Drast on her right. Not the most opportune position to be in.

Bri prepared another series of quick strikes at Drast, alternating left and right, hopefully forcing him off-balance and allowing enough time to defend any incoming attacks from the Pantoran.

It was difficult to do this dance without grinning so grins galore hereon out, including the ones exchanged between two women as Vayla’s blade bit Brienna’s. Distracted by her, Drast’s saber succeeded in making the Pantoran retreat a little—further toward her right.

This left the other Knight caught in between two assailants. That, though, was no fun. We’re a triangle, not a circle. Whatever that meant, Vayla winked Brienna’s way just as she gave the Padawan her attention.

Instead of going for a cheap shot to the engaged Brienna, Vayla stepped diagonally forward toward her right, aligning her torso toward both opponents still on her left. Her saber, held in right hand, swung horizontally from right to left.

The forward length would shock Drast around the midsection. Meanwhile Vayla kept her left hand poised and ready; it didn’t need to hold a lightsaber to defend against whatever Brienna might throw at her.

Drast wasn't much of a Jedi, at least in terms of the Force, but dueling? That was his bread and butter and the Padawan had a long history of beating stronger opponents.

His turn to play the target. Bri came first with alternating strikes, easy enough to block and parry, especially with her focus split. Behind her, Vayla angled to get an attack on him, so when Bri's blade came back for another strike, he would allow the Force to bolster him as he caught Bri's saber and moved it to intersect with Vayla's, locking all three sabers.

They would stick to their forms. He couldn't. He had to get creative if he wanted to win. His turn to grin. He dropped low quickly and deactivated his saber, allowing him to break free of the lock and roll beneath both blades. A quick reactivation and he would aim a slash at both knees as he rolled before recovering in a low crouch with a high guard.

Bri chuckled as she caught the wink from the Pantoran. Well she seems to be having far too much fun. As her own attacks against Vayla concluded, Drast took a turn on the offensive, quickly nimbly blocking the slices and swipes, and even holding Bri's saber in a crackling block. Vayla's own attack coincided, leaving the three sabers locked for the briefest of moments.

Quite creatively, Drast took the opportunity to disengage his own saber, rolling underneath the remaining two, quickly re-engaging for a low slash at the two women's knees. Bri managed to untangle her saber from Vayla's but was too slow to bring it down for a block against Drast. She attempted a jump backwards, but was slightly delayed on the timing, with Drast's saber nicking her right calf. While not a slice from an actual saber, the stinging shock still pulsed with a moderate amount of pain. Bri hissed inwardly as a reaction, frowning before grinning at Drast, "not bad, Padawan."

If the Padawan's style was unorthodox, it would require an adjustment from the Knight. I've got to keep him off balance. Shaking the lingering pain out of her leg, she feinted to attack Vayla, before jumping into a tight somersault to land behind the two, with an actual slice at the Pantoran from her left side.

Vayla recovered from the blade lock well enough as she sprung away, but not quickly enough. Her lower leg was zapped and she couldn’t help but giggle, it never failed. Half of her amusement was on how crafty her opponent had been with that maneuver. Brienna certainly complied.

“Ahh good old trakata…” It tended to pay off. Bri was no less tricky as her attack came out of nowhere. Vayla flinched defensively and turned to face her target.

Right hand on hilt, she swung high to parry Bri's saber while pivoting on her left foot. Her right foot aimed a kick at Bri to knock her off balance upon coming out of her somersault, banking on both sabers being engaged.

Unless interrupted, Vayla would then hope to stand defensively on two feet for whatever Drast might be pulling out from his sleeve.

Drast would grin as he felt his training saber connect... with something. He didn't quite see the hit, but he did know that he succeeded. And when the compliment came he would just bow his head. "Thanks Bri. All luck." he would laugh. He would have to keep switching up styles and tactics, so when Bri focused on Vayla and then did the very impressive aerial maneuver, Drast was able to roll low again given his current position.

Clearing both, he would make some distance before recovering in a low crouch with a high two-handed guard. Defense was just important as offense, and he would take the moment to position Vayla between him and Bri. Vayla wasn't afraid to kick, that was something he would register for later, though he had no idea how to counter the tight acrobatics of Bri, save staying low. He would exhale slowly as he was sure there would be another double attack on him.

Landing from her jump, Bri felt the resistance of her own saber as Vayla blocked her attack. Clever. The follow up was a kick to the mid-section, which the blonde Jedi was only mildly successful at absorbing. "Ooph" a grunt. The Pantoran's foot hit with a thud under Bri's chest, causing her to step back. Come on Bri, you saw that coming from a mile away.

"Thanks Bri. All luck."

Something tell's me luck had nothing to do with it. The Jedi laughed to herself. At the same time that Bri was getting kicked, Drast had rolled to his right, placing the Pantoran now in between the other two Jedi. Unlike before, the Padwan didn't engage in another attack. Instead he shifted his feet in a more defensive position. As Vayla did the same, it appeared they had reached a short pause.

The Knight took the opportunity to dust off the dirt on her tanktop. She took a deep breath in, and then exhaled, channeling her concentration. Plotting a course of action, Bri tossed her right hand in Drasts' direction, utilsing the Force to launch him upwards, it would be easy enough to dodge - assuming he had prepared himself. The Jedi then started another series of attacks at Vayla. High then low, then back high again. Followed by a few more quick strikes in reverse order of the first three.

Everything was moving so fast that the last object to steal Vayla’s gaze was Drast flying up and away, courtesy of his fellow Bri. The other Knight made a mental note to not suffer the same fate just as her remaining opponent went on the offensive.

Three there were and now only two contestants were in the ring, but of course this was more about training than winning. Mental notes mattered little and less when you were being driven back by a lightsaber.

Vayla clutched hers in right hand. High block, low, high. She nearly lost her footing when Bri changed the dance but it was just as well. There was no sense in trading handshakes so the Pantoran was on the move.

The low strike came and Vayla sidestepped to her right to dodge it. As the incoming saber would arc through air she curled her left hand’s fingers in and tugged through that same air. Bri’s saber-hand would jerk just enough to realign her blade so that it would now be swinging toward her own legs.

Vayla did not immediately follow up her Force-attack with something else se but would be in a prime position to. Her saber was still in its grip, blade pointing diagonally toward the sky and guarding the Knight’s front.
