DESCRIPTION​

The Pierce-class troopship is the Sith Empire's all-purpose answer to putting boots on the ground wherever they might be needed. Produced by Loronar Corporation, it is a rare exception to the dominance of the Empire's state-owned Imperial Fleet Works corporation, whose submitted design lost out in the competition which led to the Pierce's adoption.

The Pierce is an enormous, 70 meter long design, built with a sturdy duranium hull and shield generator, as well as 6 dual light laser turrets, 4 of which are located on the ventral hull where they can be used to clear the vessel's landing zone in hostile territory, and support troopers on the ground. The Pierce can carry up to 100 fully armed and equipped troopers, and can offload them either via a conventional boarding ramp, or via specialized repulsor-cushioned "deployment chutes" which can rapidly offload passengers.

Accommodations aboard ship are spartan for passengers, with no private cabins and only limited amenities, these primarily including an automated mess hall and mounting points for sleeping hammocks. Onboard consumables can sustain the intended crew and passenger load for up to a standard week, however travel times aboard such vessels tend to be as short as possible. In its default configuration, the Pierce is equipped to carry troopers and their standard gear, but alterations can be made to allow for the carriage of light or heavy vehicles instead. With only the crew and no other passengers, the Pierce can carry up to 5 Sith battle tanks and their crews. Deployment of such vehicles can tank some time, however, and generally requires a pre-secured landing zone.

Pierce-class troopships have become a ubiquitous symbol of Imperial might across the Galaxy. They are often used in concert with starbombers, gunships and smaller landing craft to invade hostile worlds.
